Was at Terrace Bay on business. The Drifters Motel is convenient to a great on-site restaurant and some shops too (most notably an LCBO). The room was small (had 2 double beds), but cozy. Surprisingly quiet. Mattress was meh… but good enough to get a decent rest. This is the North!

We arrived in dense fog in time to rent one of two remaining vacancies. The suite was more than we needed for an overnight stay featuring a complete kitchen & sitting area. Clean & Comfortable. This motel is the best choice along the north shore of lake Superior.

This is the main motel in Terrace Bay that you see advertised - it was ok. But don't be deceived - it sits RIGHT on top of a gas station. Yes, it's also attached to one of the better restaurants, but there are only 3 in town. Stay here if you must, but don't expect a lot. The room was so tight with two double beds that you could barely walk around the one closest to the bathroom. Serviceable, but that's it.

We made our reservation by telephone several weeks before arriving. We asked for the nicest room that is pet friendly. When we arrived we were told that our room was across the road in a broken down motel because that is where the pet friendly rooms are located. The windows were dirty, there was no fan or air conditioning and after running the water for several minutes it was only lukewarm. We were not told that our room was not in the Drifters Motel as shown on the website. If we had known, we would have made our reservation in Marathon. On our vacation with our dog, we stayed in 7 different resorts/hotels. All of the businesses sent us an e-mail asking us how we enjoyed our stay, all EXCEPT Drifters Motel! I am sure that they didn't want to hear what we have to say. Also, on our vacation we had very nice rooms and in some places, dog bowls and biscuits were in the room to welcome us. Drifters doesn't have a clue about treating guests travelling with a pet! Do not stay there!

Another great find! We had a 2nd floor room that shared a balcony along the front of hotel. Chairs and tables made it very comfortable to enjoy the view of Lake Superior for a beautiful sunset! Room was plenty big with a small frig, coffeemaker, microwave, small table and chairs. Bathroom was nice and very clean/newer looking. Even though hotel is located in same parking area as gas station, lighthouse, shopping area, the noise was not any problem.

Hidden Gems along Highway 17 North đźš™

Every once in a while you find a really nice place to lay your head after a long day of driving. That’s the case with the Drifters Inn located in Terrace Bay Ontario. Located right off highway 17, this little motel is a great place to stay while you explore the lighthouse or the wonderful beach with its new boardwalk. And just out of town is Aguasbon Falls which is another beautiful place to stop and take a walk and take in a beautiful view.

Last spring when I was planning my annual road trip to Toronto I decided to stay in Terrace Bay instead of driving the extra hour to Marathon where I usually stopped for the night. It’s an 8 1/2 hour drive which includes stopping at a few places for bathroom breaks, food breaks, coffee breaks, or just to check out something cool along the highway. My stay last summer at the Drifters Inn was awesome.
I stayed on the top floor with a great view of Lake Superior.

It’s always great to be able to check out some new things in a new town. In Terrace Bay, you can climb up the Terrace Bay Lighthouse, you can drive down to the beach where they have a boardwalk, some wonderful chairs to sit on and of course an awesome view of Lake Superior. You can also dine right beside your motel room too ….
the restaurants that are attached to the motel are all top notch.

Addendum- I stayed in room 204 and room 107 this year. I really love the top rooms for the great view of the lake, although when I was there it was so foggy I couldn’t see across the street. The room on the bottom was near the lounge so you could hear people talking and socializing until about midnight or so. I also should add that the drains in room 107 backed up pretty bad in the sink and the tub and had a hard time draining the water. If you have issues with balance or getting in and out of a tub you should request a room with shower instead of a tub. The tub is also very slippery so bring a tub mat if you think you’ll need one.

9/10 stars

So next time you’re up north on your way to wherever your travels take you, make sure you check out Terrace Bay, Ontario and if you’re looking for an awesome place to stay make sure to call ahead and book your room at the Drifters Inn.

The motel itself was nice, clean, updated, and dog friendly. Unfortunately their attached restaurant and bar outdoor seating areas did not allow dogs and the only solution was to sit on the bar side patio and tie our dog to the fence where she basically sat on the pavement in the parking lot. If you’re going to advertise that you are dog friendly, you should also allow dogs to sit with your customers on the outdoor patio

The room was clean but small, there were no queen beds available - if you wanted two beds, you got double size not queen size. Staff was friendly, restaurant food was very good, price was reasonable. Interior decor was a little rustic with pine trim everywhere, it was well done. Nicely renovated bathroom.

Didn’t have the energy to look around for anything but this place comes in at $117 plus tax seems for what you get overpriced.

The room was large enough for a double bed but they pushed a 2nd bed in so very cramped the other bed was next to the a/c unit.

Bed comfortable bathroom modern and comfortable.

Biggest issue as this doubles as a restaurant gas station and the highway is very close busy is a lot of noise.

Pulled in here after a long days drive hoping for a comfortable room with a quiet nights sleep which was not to be. Room was jammed with oversized log furniture so much so that you had to squeeze by to get into the washroom. Chose upstairs to avoid noise from above only to find a drinking and smoking session on the landing outside. Knowing that this was eventually going to turn into an all-nighter, spoke to front desk who was not concerned as "they will settled down later" It did while they went to dinner but continued later until 1 in the morning.
Traffic coming and going for fuel at pumps just in front made for a constant noise of people and vehicles.
Not impressed by room nor customer service.
