Catalonia Bayahibe hotel presents a mixed picture, according to guest feedback. While the service received both commendation for its friendliness and professionalism and criticism for occasional unresponsiveness, the atmosphere is noted for its modern yet rustic vibe. However, some areas appear neglected. Although the amenities, including the beach and pools, are generally appreciated, issues with overcrowding and construction noise have been flagged. The hotel's cleanliness is well-regarded, yet some guests have highlighted outdated areas. Room conditions have sparked concerns over air conditioning, lighting, and maintenance.

The rooms were recently modernized and were comfortable but small. The crepes on the beach was a nice touch. Beautiful beach but no Bali beds in the Privilege section and the music from the pool was loud and could be heard on the beach. Service at the restaurants was good but hard for gluten free and vegans. Dairy free milk was only at the buffet. The front desk check in was over an hour on Sat. there were alot of Dominican locals checking in for the weekend so we didn't stay Sat/Sun & sought other accommodations for these 2 days. Social distancing was adhered to and all staff wore face masks. Buffet was available with sanitation and plastic disposable gloves upon entry. If I didn't pay for the privilege services that were not available this rating would be higher - No beach towels, robes or slippers in room, no beer in mini bar until the 4th day, no 24 hr rm service (you had to ask for the menu and it took 2 days to get) with some very stringent ordering restrictions and hard to get ahold of - what is listed on the menu is sometimes not what you get, no welcome cocktail or gift basket, no water services at spa, no turndown service and no special restaurant for Privilege. Our fridge was broken and we asked for replacement but it was never done the scale didn't work but was replaced the next day. The grounds were well maintained and the pool was nice but music was too loud. The beach is definitely the selling point at this resort.

The hotel is very beautiful and the garden makes it feel like your not in a tropical beach resort. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Check in and check out was super easy and fast. We were giving two updated double beds garden rooms that were clean and ready for our on arrival.

There are a few things that could be approved and yes we understand we are there during a pandemic. But let start with the buffet we never waited more than 5-10 minutes to be seated with a group of 5 and staff made sure we sanitize our hands, checked our temperature, and was giving gloves to use at the Buffet. But 75% of the time food was lukewarm or cold and selection not so great! Also be prepared to sweat it out because the building is an open area and they never turn on the fans to circulate the air in the building. Next the bar staff are friendly but can get overwhelmed with everyone trying to get drinks and it can take a wait to place a order and there’s only one beer selection and that’s the national Presidente! The pool area is nice and with a lot ppl we never felt it was overly crowded. The beach area is beautiful and the blue clear water makes up for a lot and beach chairs and umbrellas were easy to get and enjoy.

Well housekeeper only came once during our stay and we thought water bottle would be replenished on an daily basis but that wasn’t the case. Next time we know to call and request a housekeeper because after a day at the beach the room can get very sandy and makes for a uncomfortable night!

But overall we would be back to visit next year and give it a second try!

Beautiful Adults Only resort. As a vegan I had some challenges with staff speaking English especially during meals on day 1 & 2. I would like to give a huge credit to the chef, I believe her name was Candy. She took upon herself to create a beautiful Vegan dishes just for me, I am surprised they are not part of their regular menu. If you are a vegetarian, you will not have an issue but as a vegan, you need to speak to the chef and she accommodate your needs. This hotel is À la carte dining only, so what I would recommend is to connect with the chef daily to let her know where you will be dining.
Chef Candy, you are the reason why I will be returning. Thank you so very much for accommodating my dietary restrictions. It meant the world to me, and it will to my fellow vegans.
The grounds are stunning, and extremely clean. The lobby smelled amazing!!! I would recommend spending more on a room with walkout pool, it makes a difference when you just want to relax near your room.
Overall, I had an amazing time, and I will be back soon.
Much love
AK

My daughter and I traveled here over Christmas 2019. I would never return. This resort provided poor service, poor food selection and quality and overall we were very disappointed with our experience. I have been to the Dominican many times and this was the worst resort I have ever stayed at. The resort has no ambiance; it lacks a lobby bar, comfortable outdoor seating areas, the entertainment was totally lacking and the "shows" were terrible, worse than an elementary school play. My mini bar was refilled only once in 7 days, I had to hunt down toilet paper in the resorts bathrooms because none was left in our room, did not have enough towels. The main buffet food was terrible on the first two nights of our stay, although it did improve after the third night, however, it did not have a section of food that was KID friendly, making it difficult for families with children. I have paid less than I did for this vacation lots of times and received far superior accommodations and service.

Traveled all over and have to say, I don’t know where the money spent to stay here goes. Food was terrible. No one informed us when booking the room there would be a DJ outside the room playing techno music until 2am nightly. We booked a massage and no one showed up. Went to the front desk to inquire as to what happened and the spa manager literally yelled at me and told me I changed the time and it was my fault and if I didn’t show up at the “New time” I’d be charged. Masks not enforced. Went down to get coffee and when I came back security was at my purse and my boyfriends wallet writing down that they were not liable because I didn’t use the safe every time I left the room. No do not disturb option. Twice I was in the shower and someone walked in. The website also doesn’t tell you the distance from the beach is over a mile away. The staff was miserable looking. I’d tip the bar $20, they wouldn’t even say thank you. As someone who is in the hotel industry, I highly suggest you avoid this property unless you have money to burn, super low expectations and like being treated like the resort is doing you a favor allowing you to stay there.

We, a family of three, were staying in Catalonia Gran Dominicus from November 20 till November 28. The rooms of this hotel are not updated but overall experience staying there is great. The food was very good. The beach is maintained. There are enough chairs for everyone. Our room was cleaned every single day by our cleaning lady, Tanya, and we feel that she really cares about us. Thank you Tanya. Staff from reception was always eager to help with any questions. Yveline, a representative from Guest Relations is far beyond her duties, very knowledgeable and professional really made our stay wonderful. Thank you Yveline. The ground is beautiful. Every single evening there are entertainment in the theater. Fresh juice, cocktails, snacks in bars on the beach. In addition to the buffet there are four restaurants to chose from but the reservation is requires one day before. Thank you all of you to make our vacation a paradise. We will definitely come back.

This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. The room was shabby, stained and dented walls etc.The bathroom sink was clogged and the air conditioner was very noisy and dripped water non-stop making a big soggy mess on the floor. We called maintenance to repair both problems. They showed up once but didn't fix the AC and only slightly improved the clogged sink. When we requested maintenance again, they never showed up. While at the hotel we spoke with other guests who were also very unhappy. Two guests reported personal belongings missing from the beach. One guest reported no hot water in their room and another reported being lied to about the Saona Island snorkling trip. We booked a snorkling trip from a vendor at the pool who also misled us about the trip. When I complained about this, I was told that the hotel wasn't responsible for the vendors which seemed crazy since they are obviously getting $ from the vendors in return for allowing them to sell trips on hotel premises. The front desk was understaffed and whenever we needed something we had to wait a long time. When I complained that maintenance hadn't returned, they gave me a form to fill out that said "Help us to improve" instead of sending maintenance.  Some of the staff were nice, but I also encountered a terribly rude staff person in the sales department.

All services at the the resort are excellent, good or average. Opinions could be subjective. Beach is outstanding. In general resort meets our expectation if not the one thing that we would like to bring to the attention of the resort management and a potential visitors.
Our departure flight was late, taxi scheduled at 4pm, check out from the room 12pm.
Before paying for the vacation package we contacted resort directly to find out how extension of the room handled by resort. Representative assured us that for the extra charge we will be able to remain in the room until 3pm.
Upon arriving during check in we ask for the extension and being told to make extension couple days before departure. We reminded front desk about it couple days before departure and being told to notify front desk on the day of the departure. On the day of the departure get the message "extension not available".
Just because we spoke with different front desk workers it is looks like premeditated deception. In the end of the story, resort has room which is should be reserved for particular time "30 minutes per couple" to take shower before departure.
We stayed in the "adult" section of the resort, retired with the list of chronical illnesses must be in the 90 degree heat for the several hours before long trip home.
We do ask resort to change their policy, but guest entitled for full information from resort. If we would know about rule "IF AVALABLE" we would reconsider our decision to spend vacation at the Catalonia La Romana.

Valentine weekend and so we decided to book the Catalonia at La Romana, very reasonable I thought as I booked an all inclusive package for four nights for
USD 595 dollars.

When we arrive we entered what resembled a sad run down 1970s edifice, the reception staff were less than friendly

We were then escorted to our extra large double bed garden view room

When we entered this well worn dark and roughly painted room the curtains were open presenting the view as shown in the picture.

Immediately we told the consierge that the room was not acceptable, we returned to the reception and we were told that for an extra USD 35 a night each we could transfer to the Catalonia Royal which was less than one minutes walk away.

Visually this hotel and its accommodation was a billion times better, the Catalonia had entered the 21st Century but here's the thing, they promote at this hotel the Exclusive Traveller Club so BEWARE

The first issue was the drinks, I always drink wither Gordon's or Beefeater Gin and Tonic and the beverage that comes out of either bottle is NOT the authorised or advertised brand.

It has a nasty tinge to it, I tried it without lemon and also without ice but the tinge was still there

Secondly, you cannot get breakfast in your room unless you order it the previous day?

Lastly the travel club, on the promise of a discounted massage the heavy sale pitch begins, it takes over an hour and basically for 20, 30 or 60k you sign up for breakfast in your room and or a premium Gin

There's no one to compalin to and overall very disappointing

We have stayed numerous times at the Catalonia in Santo Domingo which is
Excellent for the price but if I were you in La Romana forget the Catalonia as its mutton dressed up as lamb

The Staff at the Bar Merenguero is outstanding, friendly, helpful and always attending to you. Otherwise I have not a lot of good things to say, Food in the Buffet Restaurant is cold and there is not a lot of Choices, also the Coffe is more Water thank anything else. Food Portions in the a la Carte Restaurant are tiny but taste very good. Otherwise on our last day there was no Water and Electricity at the whole Resort, when I asked at the Reception if it was ok to stay a little longer in the Room to at least be able to take a shower they didn’t even bother with taking time to talk to me properly. I did not ask for a Refund just for some more Time without additional cost. All 2 Employees that attended to me seemed unbothered by the fact that I couldn’t use the restroom for more than 2 hours and just offered a shower in a community Room. For me that is not a Service I expect at a 4* Resort. Not coming back.
Animation Team though is amazing!
