First the resort: The grounds are beautiful. The pools were plentiful, clean. The resort if huge, so plan on doing lots of walking. We are very active on vacation, so the last thing I want to do is walk 20 minutes from our room to the pool. There is shuttle service around the resort, shuttle service to Playa del Carmen, $5...

Dear rangerone : We are always grateful that our guests take time to share their vacation experiences at The Grand Mayan. We are happy you enjoyed our pools, the accommodations and we are glad you liked our beautiful grounds. It is always nice to learn our guests found everything they needed while staying with us. We have stayed at the Grand Mayan several times and we keep going back. The pool area and grounds are immaculate, the staff is great, the accommodations are superb. We like the location with being close proximity to Cancun or Playa del Carmen. Easy access to both via vans on the road. We have tried every restaurant at this facility...

From the moment we arrived, we had to deal with a sales pitch -- at least the early part of one (about 20-25 minutes describing the resort and inviting us to their sales breakfast). Oh, and all nine of us were fitted with red bracelets to wear the entire week which would entitle us to access to our special pool...

Don't miss Havana Moon on the beach for dinner. Enjoy the many pools. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We have returned to Grand Mayan three times and have recently booked our fourth trip. A vacation that is enjoyed by all. The activities around Playa del Carmen just add to the Five Star rating for the area.

We went for a week to celebrate two "50th" birthdays. The resort was beautiful and very clean. We went on an RCI exchange and had a two bedroom unit which slept 7 of us very comfortably. We had a stove (no oven)and fridge in our room so we went to the Walmart for food and cooked most of our meals....

the mayans, what a great culture they were and what a great culture they are. it is no wonder this great resort chain was named after the mayans. the refined architecture designed with the mayan influence is awesome. seeiing all the palapa and bamboo and huge beams was sort of inspiring.. the landscaping is sharp, with all the palm trees...

My wife and I spent a week at the Riviera Maya. The one bedroom apartment that we had (this was an RCI exchange) was fantastic. A well equipped kitchen made meals easy (the Mega store in Playa Del Carmen is a good grocery store about 20 minutes away) and the facilities were immaculate. Everywhere you turned the attention to detail...

I would NEVER return to the Grand Mayan, for various reasons. First, they have a serious moldy smell throughout their properties. We had to change rooms because the smell was SO intense in the first room. "It's the humidity" everyone said but moldy smell is moldy smell. Made me feel like it wasn't healthy for us to be here. And...

My wife and I just wasted 4 hours of our lives listening to a 'presentation' at the Grand Mayan. They promise 90 minutes 'after breakfast' but when you finally get the first guy to realize you're not interested you have at least 4 more to get passed to get out of there. The first guy got upset and said he...

Dear mmetz105 : Thank you for taking the time to share your experience while visiting The Grand Mayan. However, it is disappointing to learn that your experience was not satisfactory. Second time to Mexico, last year we went all inclusive to Cancun, this year we decided to go self catering further south and we weren't disappointed. The main entrance to the complex is impressive and fully secure. As you drive down to one of the 6 hotels there are stunning golf course on both sides of the road. We were...
