This was a total contrast to the hectic pace of Havana with which we'd started our trip - from the moment you arrive a the shore of the Laguna and discover that your hotel is actually an 8km speedboat ride away in the centre of the lake, to arriving at the scattering of small huts and array of wooden walkways...

One thing is undisputed - the views and the surroundings. Exceptionally romantic and beautiful and a welcome respite. Close to great snorkelling at bay of pigs, if you have a car - cueva de los peces is incredible and is not far. Arguably a taxy would take you. So many fish, though further down to Trinidad coral reefs are bigger...

So, be PREPARED! I absolutely LOVED Villa Guama, but I realize I might be in the minority! Yes, it's rustic, and yes, the bungalows need some refurbishment, BUT, overall, it IS an utterly charming place. We were on a Kayak trip, and we stopped here for one night, after taking a boat over from Boca de Guama after exploring the...

Stayed here for one night, which is more than enough really. looks great when you turn up at the boat station, getting a boat to the hotel not easy, too busy with tourists going to the village than hotel guests, finally got there, you can see how tired it is when getting onto the jetty. Staff were great at checkin,...

Perhaps 20 years ago this place would have been pretty impressive. Now it's all worn out. The staff try their very best to keep things going and are helpful and friendly but really we reckon this place needs a complete overhaul. The potentially charming rooms/huts are dark and gloomy, beds are OK and it's generally clean. The evening birdwatching trip...

Having read other reviews we went to Villa Guama with adjusted expectations. We booked 2 nights, one night would have been enough. We enjoyed a nice stay and felt to be participating in a bad B-movie. Don't take this as negative, we took this as our situation and this made us enjoy and have fun. The organization of transport to/from...

The nature is beutifull and it could be a so much better experience. The restaurant is very ordinanary and the service staff was more interested to have their own conservation. The huts are ok, but the pool area is owfull.

The trip to the hotel, a 30 minute boat ride is nice. The setting is great, you stay in houses on the water in the middle of lake and indeed it looks very adventurous. Stayed here with 4 young kids. Everything, really everything in this resort almost falls apart. You can't walk barefoot at the pool area, as the splinters...

The huts are dark with very little lighting which is probably a good thing so you don't see the state of the rooms. The bed linen and pillows ( which were black with mould ) were so bad we slept in our sleeping bag liners. Toilets didn't flush. There is some renovation going on for the the boardwalks but the...

Villa Guama does not have luxurious or fancy accommodations. The thatched huts are rustic and in need of maintenance. The boardwalk is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. So if you come here looking for 5 star accommodation you will be disappointed. The restaurant offers basic food from a limited menu but it is ok. Having said all...
