If you want to step back in time and still have every modern convenience, Ashford Castle is the place. November is certainly not the best month to visit Ireland, but despite the cold and rainy weather, we couldn't have felt more welcomed and cared for. We felt as if we had come to stay in a very wealthy friend's country house. The room was perfectly appointed and the food was superb. The staff was so professional, yet warm and friendly. Still dreaming of our stay.
Property is unbelievable. Service is beyond compare. You can see the huge Irish Wolfhounds every morning in the lobby. Enjoy boat tours, falconry, skeet shooting, archery and equestrian activities. Great place
I think all the superlatives have been used up by all the other reviews. I can only say that if you have not been you are missing something special. We felt like Lord and Lady of the Manor. We didn't go off the premises during our stay other than a 15 minute stroll to Cong. There is so much to do and try. Just mention something and the seem to do it. The food was fantastic. The service amazing with all the staff working hard to make us comfortable and at ease. Our room was beautiful. In all it was one of the very best hotels we have ever stayed in
I am never usually someone who "goes back" but last year we made after our first visit, we knew this was a place to which we would return every year until we are too infirm to make the trip. It didn't disappoint. This time we brought some friends (who will also be returning next year). I work in the hospitality industry and arriving back at Ashford Castle was like having a huge hug and coming home to family. Every detail is perfect, I am aware of all the people in the background who we didn't meet but they all make every aspect of your stay perfect. The housekeeping staff are flawless, the restaurant and bar staff make you feel at home. It's a pleasure to be somewhere I can dress up for dinner. and enjoy amazing food from Philippe, fantastic service from Robert, Martin and Said. Impressive wine list that is updated (thrilled to have Whispering Angel). Breakfast - amazing For outside pursuits you can borrow wellies and a waterproof coat for a (soggy on our visit) magical walk through the woods. We played board games and billiards (with lovely whiskey recommended by Simon), we watched a movie with a glass of champagne and a bag of popcorn. All of this in just 48 hours. Ashford Castle is MAGICAL and made so by the people who work there and love it. The joy for us, is knowing all the staff we met last year and this year, will still be there next year. We will be back. Thank you…
