The hotel is just behind the church. I experienced a rather so-so "welcome" (the word was never uttered). The key was given to me, as was the a/c control. No explanation of ANYTHING (they key is indeed unusual). When I needed help with the Wifi, (my second trip downstairs), I was told that the (moth-eaten) bit of paper stuck on the key was IT!! I tried and tried. No use! Back down (third time). I was then told that a vital part of the code was not on that worn little scrap of paper. Lousy service! The room was unequivocally samey. Boring and in need of repaint and repair (especially the less that "nice" bathroom.) A "tired" room in a weary establishment. Breakfast next morning: frankly, dull. the grey kind of mainly flavourless breakfast you get anywhere in a lot cheaper hotels, this time with an officious redundant little fellow pointing out the cold milk, etc.. already massively labelled. Result: NO, thank you. NOT again. It was cheap (€31 for one person, room 304, with magnificent views of other people's back walls - usually €42) but not cheerful. The only redeeming feature as I left was a receptionist I had not encountered when I arrived. A bubbly, short-haired woman who knew her way around, and did her best! (My thanks to her!!)

We stayed here for 2 days. The hotel is situated almost in the centre of city. The stuff is very polite. I needed a hairdryer and there were no in the room so we asked at the reception. Also we asked about an iron. The only minus is that the shower is really old and need to be redone. The water wasn't very hot. Although for the breakfast you can choose different things. Even if it starts from 8 a.m., we had a plane earlier and leaft the hotel at 6.45 and the receptionist offered us a breakfast but unfortunately we didn't have time for it. The pictures shows the view from our window.

It is a traditional Portuguese 'family hotel' with quite good beds and friendly staff. The location is great, all in walking distance, to the station (bus or train) to the central market (Praca da Republica) and to the very relaxing Park (Dom Carlos I). More tourist information (train schedule, bike/car hire, cultural activities, 'night-life' ) would be appreciated.

Basic, quite small room. Good enough for one night. Location suberb just in the city centre with parking garage. Friendly staff and standard breakfast. English isn't spoken with all of the staff, but if you know a bit of French as well, you'll manage just fine.
