Getting there
Somewhat walkable
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
I booked an executive room with a balcony and a view of the lake. At 300 EUR for one night in March, it was a bit pricey, but overall the room was fairly nice. The main hotel building itself is not lake front, so while the view of Lake Como was nice, it was fairly obscured.
The room had an interesting scent and felt a bit dated and in need of a refurb. The pictures on the hotel's own website seem somewhat polished and filtered compared to what the room looks like in reality. While it had most of the expected amenities, the TV was very small and only had a handful of English-language channels. The room is also a bit small, but it did have complimentary water and a small chocolate, which was a nice touch.
The balcony was okay, and spacious, but not very private, and the furniture could use an upgrade.
The bathroom was decent, but small, and with the "stand in the tub" kind of shower.
There are two restaurants on site - the upscale Imperialino which is in a separate building and with a great waterfront location, and the smaller and somewhat more informal Ulivo restaurant, where I had dinner. The food was pretty good, but when I ordered a glass of red wine for 15 EUR, I got the smallest serving of wine I've probably ever had at a restaurant. Just a couple of sips and it was gone.
The hotel has a very nice pool, in a separate area across the road (you can also use a "secret" tunnel under the road to access it) but unfortunately it was closed during my stay. Apparently, there is also a bar by the pool which is open during the summer.
The hotel is in a fairly nice location in Moltrasio where you can go for some nice hikes to see the waterfall and get some good views of the lake. The hotel is located just a couple of minutes from the Moltrasio boat stop, so you can easily catch a ferry into Como or other locations.
Service from staff was good, and I was given a room tour from the woman at check-in, which was a nice touch.
Overall a nice hotel, although I imagine it's even better in the summer time.

My wife and I recently spent three nights at the Grand Hotel Imperiale at Moltrasio as part of a tour of gardens of Lakes Como and Maggiore. The reception staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. Our Executive lake view room was large and elegant with slightly obstructed views over Lake Como. The breakfast buffet was extensive. As half board guests we had unrestricted choice from the à la carte menu or ‘specials’ menu for dinner. Once various burgers had been discounted there were plenty of delicious, well presented Italian dishes. The only downside of the hotel was the terrible, utterly dysfunctional service in the restaurant every evening. I cannot recall ever being in such a poorly run restaurant, which was a disappointment in such an otherwise impressive hotel.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a package. On arrival I was told with great gusto at reception that I had been upgraded to a larger room, which sounded very nice. I had originally requested a garden view as I was weary of being on the lakeside with a noisy road in between and as I discovered once at the hotel, building works going on nearby. Yes, the room was large and there was a balcony, but the outlook left a lot to be desired. A view of the fire escape, large fir trees and a tiny speck of a hydrangea bush and a worn tennis court. Not what would be classed as a room with a garden view. As another reviewer has mentioned the restaurant service in the evening was somewhat all over the place. The saving grace was the excellent breakfast and comfortable bed! Not a hotel I would recommend staying in even if you are out all day seeing the wonderful Lake Como as Moltrasio is not an ideal location other than the nearby ferry pier.

I would never stay at this hotel again even if it was the only one in Como Italy.  It was very disappointing in so many ways.  This hotel is very outdated and the desk staff were rude. There was even one person behind the counter that rolled her eyes at me when I asked for a different room. We were informed there were no other rooms available with a shower (only a tub).  You couldn't pay me enough money to use a tub in this place.  It was obvious that our room hadn't been cleaned in a while.  I'm sure at some point it was but we are guessing it hadn't been used since it was cleaned because there was a lot of dust, a long black hair on the phone, lightbulbs(2) out in the bathroom.  The view (which we were told when we checked in was beautiful) was nothing short of terrible.  Don't be fooled by the photos on the website.  Anyone can make a place look good with photography.  The beautiful view from the balcony on their main website was only seen from one corner of the facility and it must have been a suite. All of the photos posted on their website are definitely not a true representation of what you should expect.  In speaking with others on our tour it seemed they were also disappointed with this facility. Our room was at the very end of the hallway and very undesirable.  The windows in the hallway were either too short or too tall to see out of them.  The restaurant was so overpriced and the food was terrible.  We ordered a caesar salad, bowl of minestrone soup, bottle of water, cup of coffee - it cost 73 euros (12 euros for a service charge which we were told was for the napkins, setting up the table, etc.) and the lighting in the restaurant was really bad - you could hardly see (not to mention the hideous pink walls).  I really can't say anything positive about this hotel except that we did discover a wonderful restaurant next door which was family owned and the food was excellent and reasonably priced.  There are no shops or much of anything to do in that area.  You will be very disappointed if you are expecting a place that looks like the photos on their website, not to mention luxury (as they also claim).

This hotel was an utter disappointment. To start, the prices: abominable. Upcharging anywhere they can.. 5 euros for a water bottle, 8% service charges, room rates, 20 euro quinoa bowl (the size of my fist with some edamame, almonds, and a slice of eggplant, no exaggeration), everything. Furthermore, the staff were untrained and unprofessional- ranging from rude to creepy, two staff members even made unwanted advances (asking for my number, staring, a wink). The decor (aside from the dining room) was outdated...think Home Goods in Florida, and the hallway looked something out of a motel. The breakfast was unimpressive, cold bacon, cold eggs, smoked salmon served at room temperature.. Save your money.

Unfortunately, our experience at the Grand Hotel Imperial was the worst of our 7-week vacation. The location was poor and far from the charm of central Lake Como, making it inconvenient for sightseeing or enjoying the area.
The hotel felt more like a business conference venue, and the arrival of busloads of cruise tourists made it extremely busy and chaotic. To make matters worse, the elevators were not working during our stay. Despite repeatedly asking staff to address the issue, nothing was done, which was incredibly frustrating.
Overall, this hotel did not meet expectations, and we would not recommend it for those seeking a relaxing or enjoyable stay in Lake Como.

I am a travel blogger and influencer and travel the world. I do my due diligence by checking tagged images on social media to see the hotels I’m staying in. I knew the hotel was not going to be top tier but, like most of the reviews here I was disappointed. Small factors like there are no ironing facilities in the hotel and you had to go to a communal room to iron and the rooms are outdated for the price. But I lived with that inconveniences as I went out of the hotel for all my activities.
When I checked out the porter dropped my bag, the driver Laura and the other guest (my sister) saw him do it and because I’m a content creator I was filming myself leaving the hotel and by default had footage of how he handled my luggage which o sent to the hotel. I actually complain about a scratch and he denied it and said it came like this:
When the driver dropped us off at the train station ( I filmed as soon as the driver left) I noticed the extreme damage to the bag from the wheel to the aluminium casing is on the same side that the bag was dropped. The suitcase was new (I supplied the invoice) and I had to travel to travel out of como on the train carrying at 25kg suitcase as the wheel was damaged and I couldn’t drag it.
The manager mr buttie review my claim via email asked for my bank details as they admitted to the fault and since that day (September 2023) I have been ignored when I send WhatsApp to concierge and follow up emails.
My first trip to como was ruined, I had such a back ache from carrying the suitcase, embarrassment as I had to keep asking strangers to help me. Ruined paid content plan as a content creator and very part of your trip is content and now I couldn’t film content because I was lugging a suitcase: I had to replace it with a cheaper bag so I could continue my travels and these people specifically the manager acted accountable just so they could silence me.
Very disgusting I advice you carry your own suitcases as they seem to be understaffed and they have been a few reviews on the staff being rude!

Our room overlooked a hillside villa and lake. The water from the creek could be heard from our balcony. Breakfast was amazing. Our server, Adonis, was highly attentive and made sure our coffee was fresh. Wonderful three nights at this location.

Overall really disappointing. The mattress was really soft and difficult to sleep on and there were multiple cockroaches in the room. The hotel staff was not particulary helpful either. On the day we were set to depart we had asked the desk attendant in the morning to help book us a taxi to take to the Como train station for an evening train. When we came back that evening to collect our bags before our departure we found out the desk attendant did not book us a taxi after saying he would arrange it for us in the morning... this resulted in us having to call one ourselves and ultimately missing our originally scheduled train and having to book a later train at double the cost.

We were moved here when our cruise line moved part of our group from a previously scheduled other hotel around Lake Como. The other hotel was supposedly full. After seeing reviews, we were concerned. Upon arrival you could see why! Service at check in was subpar. Keys were quickly handed to us with no explanation as to how these same keys control the lights & power in your room. The decor is 1980s era of tacky gold and white painted furniture that is pretty beat up. Air conditioning in our 3rd floor room (315) was so awful that we immediately asked for a fan. They did not have any. We were told the key needed to remain in the slot inside the entrance of our room for the front desk to control the AC. They have the power to move the temp up or down. We complained at least 6 times saying it doesn't work & the lights would not stay on. We were to put the card in opposite of the "arrows" on the card. Regarding the AC, we asked if someone could please come check it. They said it is hot outside & it's as good as it gets. Friends in other rooms are too cold. We slept last night on top of the bedding. It was miserable! No attempt by the hotel to make this stay any better. We have two more nights here & wish we could go elsewhere! The ONLY thing this dated hotel has to offer is a pool that literally looks at the lake. For what you pay, we found that there are many much better options!
