South Water Caye is a perfect island paradise to get away, play, and have time to think and relax. The staff works hard to keep the buildings well maintained and comfortable. They hold true to their mission to be eco-friendly as seen by their pristine beaches, facilities, and low impact power system. Some of our favorite staff members made our visit unforgettable: Kimara gave us a very warm welcome on arrival to the main resort and took excellent care to make us comfortable; Every day Elroy left our room sparkling clean with extra tidying; Kevin made us feel confident and secure as he captained his boat so expertly; Byron gave us our big welcome and kept everything running smoothly; Mr. Thomas worked tirelessly to create gorgeous and peaceful landscaping; Miss Marsha created healthy and tasty meals every time, paying close attention to dietary requests; Jonathan guided amazing tours to watch birds and snorkel at favorite spots, and kept us calm when we got nervous from our unfamiliarity with the open water; Tyler made every meal fun and special, taking time to have a laugh or talk about the day, and making things just the way we liked. We’ll definitely try to find our way back to our new Belize favorite spot at Pelican Beach Resort and South Water Caye!

Room Tip: Facilities are more rustic because it’s island living (showers, toilets, power) but 100% worth it...

South water caye is the perfect spot for a relaxing time while also having a family friendly experience. From their consistent efforts towards being eco friendly and keeping the island as great as it can be! The staff made the experience ten times better with their endless cheerfulness, and care! Tylor was always there and ready to help, weather it be making sure we had enough coffee in the morning to making us laugh! When adventuring did arise Jonathan was right there to offer an array of activities. From bird watching, to snorkeling, and to paddle boarding. Jonathan did an amazing job of easing anxiety of unfamiliarity with open water. Ms. Marsha did an amazing job of creatively making delicious foods that ranged from fresh fish to pasta, and keeping in mind of dietary restrictions. Kevin the boat captain made boat rides to and from the mainland to the island easy and comfortable. With his knowledge of the ocean and geography he made even long boat rides interesting. Mr. Thomas made the island almost sparkle as the white sand beaches were so well taken care of, there was no need to wear your shoes to and from your room. Byron made the transition from the mainland to the island comfortable and easy, he worked hard to make sure we had every need met! Elroy made the room as comfortable as it could possibly be, from keeping the beds made every day, to adding room decorations! Overall souther caye and the staff were so enjoyable that it will become an all time favorite memory!

The island is tranquil and absolutely stunning. The cottages were comfortable and had amazing views. The staff were all incredible and so very accommodating to make us feel special and taken care of. Thank you Byron, Albin, Mello, Mike Susanna, Destiny and everyone else who we unfortunately did not the the names.
Midstay we asked for another cottage (Kingfisher) since visitors had left and the staff helped arrange it immediately. We also met the dogs and the cat - all super cute . The highlights of the trip were the day trips with Captains Albin and Mello. They took us snorkeling (day and night), bird watching and swimming at gorgeous reefs and settings. The food was served fresh every day and we never got the same things twice. Lots of fresh seafood and local flavors. The private beach is the most amazing place and so peaceful and there were kayaks and paddle boards for our use. There is a reef right off the southern tip in which we swam with many kinds of fishes, stingrays, star fish, blow fish, crabs, lobster - you name it! The water is crystal clear and shifts in turquoise and blues and just sparkles and shimmers. The water is not as salty as expected which we liked and it has a very comfortable temperature. This vacation was one none of us will forget and when real life back home gets stressful I will simply think back to South Water Caye. We will for sure come back soon again.

Being out on the barrier reef in Belize is an experience you'll want to repeat again and again. Especially if you're a diver. We spent four nights at SWC in the duplex on the beach, literally steps from the water. Weather was perfect and water was warm and clear. Snorkeling from the dock was peaceful. The only sounds were the waves on the reef and the Ospreys nesting on one side of the island. A nice breeze kept us cool at night.

For the price, the food was good but could've been a little better I suppose. Living on an island though with limited supplies, I can give it a pass. Others might balk. We spend a morning fishing and had our catch for lunch.

Hired Belize Underwater Scuba to take us out diving one of the days--there's a lot of great diving to be done on the reefs of Belize. Pelican Beach doesn't have their own dive shop, so hiring someone is a must. You can go next door I suppose, but I felt better going with Belize Underwater since I wasn't staying at the neighboring resort. Surface interval was spent at Thatch Caye, another island out on the reef.

We were booked to be here in April20 and how glad we are to have kept the reservation. What a complete delight! The location is idyllic for a laid back relaxing break but with enough thrills to be seen underwater in the snorkeling trips and off the pristine beach. Rebecca and Luke should be rightfully proud of the great team they have here at South Water Caye. Marsha provided some great meals and was happy to add, at short notice, the bounty from the sea collected on our snorkeling trips courtesy of Richie our guide. Byron, Mark, Susannah and Franci could not have made us more welcome and they all contributed greatly in making our visit a truly memorable experience. Kingfisher, our accommodation, was clean and with great views across to the mainland and east across the island to some great sunrises. Other Cabanas/ Cottages we looked at were also very comfortable with individual features and either individual doubles or semi-detached. A little bit of paradise.

We spent one of our best Christmases ever on Southwater Caye. The staff was way beyond expectations. The water was pristine, and we snorkeled right off the gem-like beach with stingrays, squid, and octopus; and we were taken out onto the reef for even more unique experiences. We loved the laid-back set-up: eat roughly when you want, do whatever you feel like. We loved our cabin with the sea breezes and our osprey neighbor. We loved every minute of it.

We went because we wanted to walk into the water and swim to the reef. This is truly not only possible but uniquely wonderful and satisfying. Plus side trips to other reefs and great food and super wonderful staff and guides. Our room was beautiful and had a star gazing deck on top. And you are away from everything. Boat groups come to this reef area. However, these are small boats and small groups and they behave themselves. Belize has great guides so each group comes with an experienced and responsible guide. Pelican Beach Resort on South Water Caye is a very special experience. We are grateful for the chance to have been there and hope to go again.

We had a wonderful time! The booking, transportation, staff, lodging, food and activities (snorkeling, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding) was great! If you’re looking for high end gourmet food (lobster every night), lodging with AC or larger more comfortable boat transfer, then this place might not be for you. But if you’re OK with well-prepared authentic Belizean cuisine and fresh fish and want an incredible outdoor tropical experience, then this is the place for you. The staff couldn’t be nicer or more accommodating. We immensely enjoyed our time with our server Marc and fishing and snorkeling with “Captain” Richie. “Prime Minister” Byron was very personable and anticipated our every need. Everyone else we encountered (e.g., Terese, Marsha, Enrique, Thomas) was wonderful. We would love to return again one day.

We spent 4 nights at the idyllic Pelican Beach Resort on Southwater Caye and it perfectly fit our preferences. It is a quiet setting with beautiful views all around - from the reef to the sunset. You can bask in the warm lagoon, kayak and, best of all, snorkel along the reef, seeing a wide variety of fishes, rays, sea cucumbers, coral and other sealife - all easily assessible. Equipment is provided.

Fishing and diving trips can be arranged. The IZE bar is next door for those so inclined.

We felt safe with the precautions that management have in place during the covid pandemic.

The cottages are comfortable and have great shutters to allow the breeze to flow through at night. The main building has a lovely veranda where meals are served and which also is a great place to relax and enjoy the view, breeze and sound of the waves on the reef. Food is very good and the staff friendly and accommodating. The new yoga platform is a peaceful setting.

From the moment you’re picked up by the boat in Dangriga to the moment you’re dropped back off Pelican Beach Resort SWC feels like your own private island paradise. The setting is amazing - most of the cottages are waterfront (we stayed in Heron’s Hideaway and think it’s the best BTW) and all have views. Your day can be as full of activities (snorkel excursions, fishing, bird/wildlife viewing) or as empty (hammocking, sunning, swimming) as you like. Kayaks and SUPs for all to enjoy any time and you can snorkel right from the beach. Extremely quiet and chill — only 12 guests on property at any time during our stay, and 8 of those were us! Staff is accommodating, kind, and knowledgeable. Food was great and tailored to our preferences. Highly recommend this very special place.

The beach is at the southern end. I can’t speak for the owners but I saw that part of the beach was designated for Pelican Beach Resort guests and part was for other people. I think people take an island hopping tour and also anchor private boats off shore for day visits. Definitely worth a stop at this property!!

Hello! Apologies for the delay in responding to you. May we have your email address to send you our availability and rates for your requested stay with us? To get from Placencia to Dangriga, we would recommend driving to Dangriga and then we can transfer you out to the island. We can arrange for a pick up service as well as the transfer out to the island, which is included in all our package prices. We look forward to receiving your email address so we can start planning your stay!

Hi Ann H., You have to either call or email Pelican Beach directly. Visit their website or see the listing on TripAdvisor. As for the cost, it depends on the season, number of nights and also if your choose a room, duplex or free-standing cabin. They are very easy to communicate with and can answer all of your questions.

Agree with Tellurian above. FYI you could walk from the Dangriga airstrip to the Pelican Beach Hotel and dock in about 3 minutes. They are adjacent. We drove -- or more accurately were driven -- to Dangriga from upcountry so driving is another option. Enjoy!

Ideal. Crystal clear, shallow water for at least 100 yards. Reef teeming with marine life 20 feet away.
