My sister inC law and I stayed here in September of 2019 and could not say more about our stay here. Louise was wonderful, rooms are clean, breakfast lovely. Owner was so helpful with information on the area, I got a touch of flu while I was here and Louise could not have been kinder to us. I would definitely stay here again, best place to stay while in Clare.

Having lived in south Louisiana in Acadiana, I really wanted to visit this area. What a treat! It was exactly as I had envisioned it would be. Louise, the proprietress, was lovely. A very strong passion in her work and heritage. She took the time to sit with my husband and I and talk with us. The room we enjoyed was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very ample. I personally was pleasantly surprised to find warm hard boiled eggs among the dishes served. We were rewarded with a recommendation and reservation at a nearby restaraunt. A spectacular view. What a wonderful, relaxing stay. Very warm and friendly people.

What a gem. Loved this little hotel on the Evangeline Trail. My wife and I travel to NS every 2 years (from Alberta) and visit a part of the province we haven’t seen before. This year it was the Digby/Yarmouth area, but we spent 3 days at a mid-point on Hwy 1 called Meteghan River. Lucky us. Talk about a home away from home. Our hostess Louise made us feel soooo at home the minute we walked in the door. The first night we were the only guests but the breakfast spread in the morning would have accommodated 15 people with ease. Quite amazing. One of the reasons we chose this area was the Clare golf course which is 15 minutes from our hotel. Don’t be fooled by first appearances if you tee it up there. Looks plain-Jane from the clubhouse but it’s a lovely wooded course once you get past the generous 1st hole. There are some great restaurants in the area and a couple of large seafood plants nearby that have public retail sales available (one almost across the street). Also recommended is a visit to the Acadian Interpretive Center at Church Point, about 15 minutes away. If your looking for a genuine Acadian cultural experience you can’t do better than to stop at this little inn and experience the warm heart and hospitality of hostess Louise.

We stayed at this exceptional inn one night, halfway on our road trip between Halifax and Lunenburg. When you don't travel often, it's nice to stay in special places that make the overnight an enjoyable experience in its own right. In this, Au Havre du Capitaine rewarded our guidebook search handsomely. From the moment we stepped indoors and were greeted cheerfully by owner Louise Comeau we felt right at home. We had a lovely quiet room on the second floor, with a view of water just beyond the road; traffic is mostly local and there are no trucks, so sleeping was easy. Because the empty rooms next to us stood open, we were able to see that every room has its own charm, with rustic furniture and beautiful quilts on each bed (all made, we learned, by Louise herself. She also has a stack available for sale.) Everything was spotless and functional, the bathroom was well appointed, the bed very comfortable. There was no AC, but it wasn't needed with a huge silent ceiling fan doing the honours. Louise enjoys chatting with her guests; her lively, knowledgeable stories of the history of the region and the Acadian people were delightful. After a restful night we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with home baking, eggs, cereals, fruit and good coffee setting us up wonderfully for the long day of driving ahead. Merci mille fois, Mme Comeau - nous esperons de vous revoir! The Pedersens (Toronto)

My husband and I travelled to Meteghan this July from Ontario with my 87 year old aunt to visit family nearby. The owner Louise made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Every room is unique, charming, clean, comfortable and affordable. Breakfast was plentiful, a mixture of hot and cold selections. Fresh fruit, baked goods, breads and cereals served with a smile and warm conversation. We would go back in a heartbeat and know that we would be greeted as returning friends! Miss sitting on the veranda, taking in the breeze and enjoying the view of the bay!
