My wife and I decided to check out Manteigas and Serra da Estrela park on the way from the Douro Valley to Evora and spent two nights in this unique and very nice B&B. Amelia was a wonderful host, helping us carry luggage to our second floor room. The room was great with a view up the valley. There was... More

Casa das Obras was a perfect place to stay in Manteigas! The rooms were big and cosy, the bed was comfy and the place was very clean and welcoming! The place serves great breakfast and self-service tea and snacks, which you can enjoy when playing pool or sitting by the fireplace! You can find maps of the park to plan... More

So: I normally wouldn't want to give away the secret, but the host is so delightful and the place so amazing it would be wrong not to share. It's an old family manor house, and we spent the first few hours just wandering around admiring the rooms and furnishings. It's like being on a movie set! The guest rooms aren't... More

From the start, Amelia makes you feel welcome. Her devotion to this family home is second to none. She has managed to keep most of the original features of this historic building, while offering 21st century luxury. The breakfast, served in the dining room, is awesome, Unless you want hotel chain soulless bedroom, you will fall in love with the... More

The house, extremely well located at the city of Manteigas, is huge and beautiful. Every room has its charm , with vintage furniture, paintings, sculptures. The owner, Mrs Amelia received us with a large smile and was so helpful in presenting us with all available tours and restaurants not only in Manteiga but also in the vicinity. The breakfast at... A perfect base for sightseeing in this amazing national park. Well serviced town and the bed and breakfast is friendly and furnished in beautiful antiques. The owner was quick to help with trip planning and restaurant bookings. Breakfast was delicious. An excellent choice. A little tricky to find but the owner gave good directions when we rang, lost. The room was fantastic: super clean and full of charm. When we asked about a heater (it gets a bit cool at night in these mountains), we had two placed in the room. Anything we needed, we received. Breakfast was fantastic. Extremely good value for the money.

Everytime we go on a family trip to Serra da Estrela, something that happens at least once a year in the winter season for the kids to play in the snow, we have only one aim, and this is to stay at Casa das Obras. It became part of the trip already, meaning that we have already ended-up changing our... More

“Ask for the double room on the second floor - it has a view of the town!”

“I suggest that you phone the Casa before you go, and discuss whether you want a ground floor or 1st floor room. The stairs to the 1st floor are leisurely and broad, but there is not a lift. Ours was on the ground floor, and had a window to the quiet street (hardly any traffic, and not noisy. Window could be left open as the traditional decorative ironwork bars stop any access. Net curtains and inner shutters. If there is a choice, the owner will show you when you arrive. We arrived and were offered a choice-we plumped for the first room as it was beautifully decorated, and the nearest to the pool. You could walk from room to pool within one minute!”

“Probably not an issue. We had a ground-level room at the front, and it was quiet. (And I am usually sensitive to noise)”

“Our room was facing the back of the house, but although it was almost on street level, there was no noise at all. I cannot tell about other rooms.”
