A genuinely special place! As a returning guest and on the basis that most guests return over and over again; it’s a true testament that I am not alone with this review. The staff are incredible (including all of you behind the scenes!), the culinary experience is a delight, the wranglers are knowledgeable and FUN, the horses are majestic as expected … but most of all you’ll arrive with a smile on your face and hope that time stops so you can enjoy all of the magic that Sundance Guest Ranch offers.
This is the sort of magical place you want to show everyone but then never tell them where it is so you can keep it to yourself. It's good that people know about this ranch because meeting new people is one of the wonderful things about it. My daughter and I have been coming here for 8 years now and we are by far still the 'newbies'. We meet people every year who have been coming here for 10, 15, or even 20+ years. If you want to unplug and breathe some big sky air, this is the place for you. If being on a horse for 5 hours a day listening to the clip clop and rustle of the sage bushes brings you joy you will want to book now. If you want to eat amazing food and get a deep sleep every night, then yup this is the place. Do know that it is RUSTIC. Being dusty and settling into a well loved chair in the saloon is part of the charm. Pro tip - bring your own towels and shampoo if this is important to you. Be prepared to be REALLY sore (if you are like me and ride 3 days a year!). It's like a badge of honour. "I am SO SORE" "Ya - me too! My knees!" "Wasn't it GREAT!" They take such good care of the horses - the wranglers are excellent and they take good care of you. We can't wait to go back next year. Already booked. Perhaps we will meet!…
I’ve been going to Sundance every year for the past seven years and it’s the one trip I look forward to the most. The food is excellent, the staff are amazing and the time spent on the horse is so magical. The weather wasn’t great this year but a rainy day on a horse is still better than a rainy day at home.
I spent a weekend at Sundance recently and I cannot wait to go back. I was skeptical about the guided riding, as I have been accustomed unsupervised riding. Well, to my surprise, I LOVED the guided riding. Having Kenzie as a guide was definitely the huge contributing factor. I felt that she took extremely good care of all of her riders, always checking in to see how we were doing, what our comfort level was, how our equipment (saddles and stirrups) was fitting, etc. She knows the trails and the horses like the back of her hand and I felt safe and taken care of for every minute of my rides. And I never had to worry about getting lost! (A common occurrence with unguided riding.) My horse, Dawson, was a pleasure to ride. He was responsive to my aids at all gaits and all reports I heard from other guests was that they too loved their horses. For me, that is a testament to the horses being treated very well, with proper rest time. As I sat and watched the horses in the corral (a favourite pastime of mine) I did not see a single saddle or girth sore and all of the precious equines seemed to be relaxed and at ease. The food was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed my vegetarian options. I cannot wait to return, as Sundance is now my favourite place to ride!…
Words cannot describe the beauty of the scenery, the magic of the large herd of horses, especially during the jingle after dinner on every other night, Every single staff member was awesome. The wranglers are friendly and ensure that you are informed before and during the rides. They put an equal focus on safety and exceptional customer service. You get plenty of riding! The variety of trails is excellent. The food is plentiful and what you would expect on a ranch. They accommodated food requests made in advance. The beds are SUPER comfortable. I would go back in a heart beat.
I highly recommend this adventure! It was our first time at the ranch and here were my impressions… The staff are all wonderful - from the wranglers to the servers to the office staff. The horses and the riding were both great too. If you’ve never been to the ranch before, you start at the beginner level for your first ride but you can move up after that. The views and trail ride sceneries were phenomenal! We were lucky enough to catch the first “jingle” of the season. This is where the horses run from the barn to the pasture - pretty cool to watch. The food was just fine; nothing spectacular, simple and tasted good enough. If you are looking for a culinary feat, it’s not that. They did make special meals for anyone who needed it (picky kids, vegetarian, etc.). The rooms aren’t fancy (small bathroom) but suited us just fine and it fit with the overall ranch aesthetic. We stayed in the Buffalo room and loved the views. All in all, we really enjoyed ourselves. The people (guests and staff) were great, the riding was enjoyable, we had lots of fun and laughs, and the views were fabulous. If you are considering going, just do it!…
The food was fabulous, the beds were comfy, the horses were amazing, and the views really are just like pictures on the website. There was a wonderful variety of trail rides and ability levels. It was a treat to have a horse that was keen to run and responsive to commands (as opposed to an old trail nag). I can't remember the last time I felt so relaxed.
This was our second stay and the whole family (parents and teenage son) just loved it so much we booked for 2023 before we'd even finished this stay! All the folks at the ranch make being friendly and kind look so effortless. The wranglers were careful and knowledgeable and showed us some awesome views on our two-hour treks through beautiful countryside. I thought the horse pairings for each of us were thoughtful and they did a great job to accommodate our horse wishes (thank you Danica!). There was always loads of food to eat which both adults and child loved. They even accommodated dietary requirements.
This was my second trip to the ranch and once again, it was incredible. First off, HUGE KUDOS to all the staff - they go above and beyond to make your stay easy, relaxing, and so enjoyable. Everything about this place is magical - the horses, the beautiful countryside and just the whole vibe. Rooms are rustic but super comfy and welcoming. The meals were unbelievable - haven't eaten that much food in a weekend for a long time but everything was oh soooo gooood! Sadly no jingle this time but we did get the Sat night dance which was too much fun. Highly recommend and definitely will be back :-) Thanks Sundance!
This trip was one I will definitely be booking again, and on an annual basis. The staff was extremely warm and helpful, even offering last minute vegetarian options. The rooms were clean , and beds were just as comfortable as home. The horses were all well cared for, as a horse owner myself this is extremely important, and they were well trained. They even send themselves back to the corral after being untacked. Kind and accommodating wranglers, incredible scenery, an experience I'll never forget. Highly recommended for beginners, and experienced riders, I've been telling everyone about it since I got back!
