Detailed Reviews
Solid hotel for the price and location. This won't go down as the nicest hotel you'll ever stay at, but the room was decent, the staff are friendly enough and the quaint little town of Grundarfjörður is as nice as can be.
Had a small room on the first floor in the main building -- was tidy and had a small attached bathroom. Wifi was free and worked well. Plenty of parking in both the front/back of the hotel. Breakfast was decent. The hotel operates a cafe just down the block which serves decent food and great coffee.
If you're there to see the northern lights, be sure to let the staff know -- they'll come knock on your door up until midnight if the lights 'come on' after you've dozed off.
The restaurant at the hotel was closed during my visit, so I ate over at the Ru Ben for dinner just across the village which had both good food and service.
All in all a good stay -- would recommend both the hotel and the town as a great stopover.

We stayed here when we toured the Snaefellsnes Peninsula because it was affordable and highly rated (our second option was Hotel Budir which is beautiful (we visited) but in the middle of nowhere!!). It was cute place and in a town situated at the perfect place to end your afternoon tour of the northern part of the peninsula and to begin the tour of the southern section the next day. The rooms were nothing to write home about, but similar to the cleanliness and simplicity you find throughout Iceland once outside of Reykjavik. The restaurant was good and we had a nice meal there, which was as pricey as everywhere else (figure $30-$40 a person if you get an entree, soda and maybe share an appetizer).
The best part about this place though was how it was a perfect and beautiful place to view the Northern Lights. We lucked out and had a nice show the night we were there. We basically just stood in the parking lot in the back of the hotel and watched it in all its glory...and then for a special treat the kind hotel staff opened the hot tub and we sat in the hot tub in the very cold weather watching the rest of the northern lights show before it went away (you are very warm once you're in the water for a minute). Fantastic experience!

There is something wrong with this hotel... The wardrobe/dresser situation in most rooms is poor. If you can live with this (and if you can't you don't deserve what follows) then you're in for a treat. I just spent a few nights here and loved every moment.
The beds are comfy, the rooms cosy, showers adequate. The English chef turns out some satisfying, tasty and well presented food, way better than I expected. I have some dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy) and each day he discussed the menu with me and created something delicious. Breakfast was continental with the addition of a very nice porridge and pancakes (very popular). Hot drinks are always available to help yourself, and kettles are also provided in the rooms. There is a hot tub, sauna and a massage chair, all free to use.
Shelagh and Gigli, the owners, are very welcoming and accommodating. Gigli also owns the whale watching/fishing boat which we used, which meant that everyone worked together to make our days and nights run as smoothly as possible.
The hotel is right by the harbour so ideal for whale watching. For the last couple of years hundreds of beautiful Orcas have been overwintering in the area and can generally be found nearby, we saw them in both Grundesfjord and the next fjord. Gigli trading as Laki Tours also provides warm and waterproof thermal suits which are very necessary in January.
Most people venturing here in the winter will be hunting the Northern Lights, of course nothing is guaranteed but you will increase your chances by coming here as the bay seems to be blessed with clear skies when the surrounding area is under cloud. You can see the lights from right outside the hotel but a five minute walk will give you a dark area with a nice little mountain in the background. The hotel are happy to advise and have a wake up service.
In the winter there is a supermarket (with hotdogs), tourist craft shop, bank and a bar/restaurant but thats about it. You need a car or to be part of a group to travel around. I understand its livlier in the summer months but I loved it when it was so peaceful and we felt very welcome. Standing with my husband one evening watching the lights we were greeted by each of the four drivers who passed by.
I was with a group of 24 and I didnt hear one moan, we all had a great visit, wholeheartedly recommend this lovely hotel.

To begin with, I am aware that Iceland is opening up to tourism, and that in some parts of the country accommodation is scarce. That's why I understand what can happen:
* That the rooms are on the second floor to which you have to climb the bags by a very steep staircase
* That the view from the room is to a fuel deposit of the port area
* Make the room small, (the photos I have seen in the Listing are very well done. Congratulations to the photographer), and the shower is plastic and looks not cleaned very often
* Let no one be in reception, and find all the keys to the rooms above the table, so that you can take yours and help yourself
These things we have seen in some other hotel on our tour, although I admit that never all together.
What I find outrageous about the site is the absolute lack of care and attention that has been paid to everything that is done.
* The person who in the morning is at reception-breakfast is quite unpleasant, and sees it unnecessary to say good morning, when crossing her
* Breakfast is absolutely regrettable. We actually paid for it and went somewhere else for breakfast.
* Facilities are very unkept and very clean.
In any case, I think that the photo I attach with this review shows very clearly what I mean, regarding the lack of interest in taking care of not the details, but the most basic issues in a hotel establishment.

Were these people staying in the same hotel as we are? The people weren't unfriendly, the showers turned on, the lights worked... but this place is gross! It hasn't been redecorated since the 60s and probably been vacuumed about once a decade. There is no where to put your clothes, the chairs are uncomfortable, and the TV is perched on one of those arms that attaches to the wall... makes you feel like you're in a bar and you hurt your neck watching tv.
The hot tub was broken and the massage chair is in a really awkward location... who would want to have a massage right off the parlor? You need to give 20 minutes notice for the sauna, but they leave in the evening and (in the winter, at least) don't return until 9:30 AM! I went into the kitchen to make some popcorn and it smelled so bad I had to cover my face with my shirt. No way I am eating breakfast from there! Not worth anywhere near the 11750 ISK! That's about 100 USD nowadays... feel sorry for the people who paid before the conversation rate dropped. Better off couch surfing!
Quick note about location: it's next to a fish factory and from time to time smells as such. ALSO: the hotel was not full when we were there, but they booked us in a room looking over the parking lot rather than the water. Nice touch!

This does not qualify as a hotel. Threadbare rugs. Terribly dated. This is the only hotel in all of my travels that neither had an elevator or someone to help you up 3 flights of stairs of narrow stairs to my room. There is an active construction sight across the street. Breakfast was less than expected/

We stayed here during our 11 days Iceland vacation. This was the most expensive hotel room during our stay in Iceland. For €150 per night, the room was too small, and didn't look like it was meant for double occupancy at all. We didn't have any view and the it was just barley adequate as a hotel. It is clean, like all other hotels in Iceland. While planning for this trip from the US, we didn't see many options at the time of bookings. But if you find one, skip this hotel. Not a good value for your money at all. I'm not sure why they can charge so much.

Hi, we stayed there just one night. The hotel is quite good, not too expensive e very clean.
The restaurant is very very good. We ate some fish and was very excellent.
The hotel is not so big but has a free park in front of it. Once upon a time the hotel was used by fisherman and it was recently restored.
Enjoy your staying.

The room we checked into had random pieces of hair on the floor and washroom, then there were tons of lint all over the bed and sofa. There was also this foul and moldy smell inside the hotel. The cleanliness was unacceptable let alone how the owner reacted to our complaint. He was pretty rude when we complained about how dirty the room was and wouldn't believe at what we were telling him. Honestly, I'd rather sleep in the car than sleep at Hotel Framnes. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL! THIS IS THE WORST HOTEL IN ICELAND!!!
