Getting there
Somewhat walkable
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
I am sure that there are fancier options on the island but I doubt they could beat this place for service, views and character.
JJ and the rest of the staff are wonderful and could not be more helpful.
The rooms were clean, bright and had comfy beds and brilliant air conditioning! We had an outdoor covered kitchen with seating that looked out on the immaculate and beautiful garden. Lovely little tropical birds were perched in trees just a couple of metres away and we saw several hummingbirds.
The pool area was very nice and the pool was clean. When we stayed the hotel was slightly off-season and quiet - we only saw a couple of other guests at the pool - but it was still cleaned daily.
There is an option for breakfast if you ask the night before. This is served on the terrace in the open or under cover depending on the weather and your preference. The breakfast was a delight. Generous portions, delicious pastries and a stunning view.
The hotel did not provide other meals or drinks but there is a very generous fridge-freezer in the kitchen and a good mini supermarket a few minutes walk away, as well as other dining options. The kitchen has everything you would need to self-cater. The bus stop is nearby for access to Deshaies.
The beach by the Fort Royal was an easy walk and from there you could walk over the headland through the woods to Plage de la Perle (check out Madras 2 there for lunch and drinks).
It would be equally as good for families, romantic couples or groups of friends.
Of note is the very steep hill approaching the hotel - it would not be ideal if you have mobility issues. If the slope is intimidating in a hire car, there are a couple of parking spaces halfway up that would be easiest.
Thank you to JJ and his colleagues.

We stayed there only one night. I would have liked to stay there for a week. Spacious room, clean, good bedding, hot water in the shower ... Small perfect outdoor kitchenette with bonus a view of the gardens and the sea.
The staff is charming, professional and attentive.
We had breakfast on the terrace of the residence with sea view at the price of 12 euros. Yogurt, fresh and hot baguette bread, fresh and hot pastries, coffee, hot milk and tea. I thought the price was too high and in my opinion the fresh fruit was missing.
Perfect pool. Few loungers, as the space around the pool is limited.
A 5 - 10 minute walk you will have access to the beach, restaurant, and a mini-market.
Thank you to the whole team for welcoming us at the last minute. You have been extraordinary hosts.

We spent 10 days in this residence and it was a treat: magnificent view of the Anse du Petit Bas Vent, and sometimes Montserrat when the weather is nice, renovated apartment, splendid garden, pleasant and not cold swimming pool (in the Antilles). it's not always the case). The residence is rather well placed for visiting Basse Terre, and not too far from Grande Terre, close to La Perle beach and Grande Anse. For information, it is possible to have your laundry washed at reception (€10 for laundry, €5 more for drying, price March 2024). Finally I recommend that you go see the sunset at the bar of the Langley Resort Fort Royal hotel, the cocktails there are at a normal price and it is open to guests other than those of the hotel.

A top stay We spent 12 days in this residence located in a quiet area near Deshaies, a very pretty little fishing village. The residence is very pleasant, the owners very kind. The room was very comfortable with air conditioning. We really appreciated the kitchen located outside which offers a magnificent view of the sea. The swimming pool with jacuzzi is superb. You can go there with your eyes closed.

We stayed at the Residence Vue Mer in August, with the family, in a suite with sea view. The residence is very well located, between St Rose and Deshaies, the most beautiful part of the island and less developed in terms of tourism. The residence is very well maintained, the garden is beautiful, it is quiet and the view is splendid! The pool always clean. Bertrand, Christine and Sebastian do everything to make your stay pleasant, they are very friendly, great customer service. Breakfast is available on the terrace with views, but the apartments are all equipped with an outdoor kitchen with a large fridge. Only one downside: the comfort of the chairs on the terrace, very heavy to move and not made to stay for hours at the table + lacks comfortable sun loungers by the pool.
Beautiful beaches are close to the residence, beach of Tillet, Grande Anse, Pearl, there is the choice. The choice of restaurants in Deshaies at this time of year is a bit limited, but next to Grande Anse beach there are often 2 foodtrucks that offer pizza and burgers, very good.
There you are, lovers of peace and nature, this place is made for you!

We stayed her for about a week and enjoyed every minute. Our room had garden and sea view, very beautiful. Even more beautiful was the view from the balcony over the caribbean sea, which we enjoyed every morning during our rich and tasty French breakfast. The service ladies were very cheerful and helpful. We would propose to the management to provide larger mosquito nets. Our apartment was ground floor. Next time we wil opt for first floor, maybe there are less mosquitoes. When we arrived with our rented car we were a bit intimidated because of the steep lane up to the hotel parking, but this proved to be no problem. There are many good restaurants and fine beaches in a five-miles-distance.
