My husband and I booked Monaci delle Terre at the last minute, during our week-long trip in Sicily, and I immediately wished we were staying there for more than one night. The room was spectacular--huge, light-filled, with beautiful wood-beamed ceilings and skylights, and a truly luxe bathroom with a stand-alone tub. Outside, there were terraced orchards, olive trees, gardens, and...

Stayed for three days including Valentine. Suite lovely, with views across the slopes of Mount Etna to the med. Easy to light log fire added to the enjoyment. Rained pretty much all the time we were there, but down by the coast was usually partly sunny. My wife thinks that My Etna has been stolen as never able to see...

My wife and I have traveled the world over the past 50 or so years, and believe me we have stayed in the worst and we have stayed in the best. Monaci ranks up there with the best, such as the Feltrinelli on Lake Garda and Blanket Bay, New Zealand. We have traveled to over 90 countries, so when we...

We have visited this place once again and we can say that the quality is top, and even improving, thanks to the perfectionism of its owner. Style, good taste, hospitality, excellent food and wine. This is a piece of (stylish) heaven. We will definitely come back. Well done!

We stayed 2 days in this wonderful small boutique hotel set in its own estate, where all manner of produce is grown. The ambiance is one of tranquility and purity. It is in quite a secluded spot and its philosophy is around slow food, organic production and environmental sustainability. The decor is a sort of sophisticated, designer "rustic". We were...

This place definitely has its quirks, but I thought it was absolutely wonderful. Wonderful remote atmosphere.... totally peaceful. It has been created with a lot of thought and love, and even if there are some things which might seem a little unusual I think it all just adds to the charm. The breakfast was wonderful - even if some foreign...

I love going to Monaci delle Terre Nere. I met its owner as we share a passion for organic food and travelling. It is amongst my favourite boutique hotels in Sicily. Its location is simply perfect as you are close enough to the airport of Catania, to the rocky beach around Taormina, and you are on the slopes of the...

This 200 year old monastery that has been converted to a resort on the side of Mount Etna was one of the nicest places we had ever stayed - ever. The room was amazing, the setting was beautiful, the staff were attentive and responsive, and the food was amazing. Highly recommended!

If it's relaxation, peace of mind, tranquility and serenity you are after, this is the place to be. Surroundings are pure magic, the grounds and the apartments are very well kept and the staff is extremely helpful. Pity there is no pizzeria or pasta house on site, otherwise nothing else to ask for.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 2007, by chance, I stumbled upon this place, fell in love with it and decided to devote my life to its resurrection. To bring this place, previously chosen by the monks of Saint Anna’s order for his special energy and extraordinary charm, back to life. It has become the second great project of my life. The estate Monaci delle Terre Nere is situated along the slopes of Mount Etna, the biggest volcano in Europe on the border of the Etna National Park at 500mt above sea level. My wish has been to preserve the historic identity and local traditions, more than a Boutique Hotel it is a home which I hope retains its intimacy. The house which dates from 1800 is listed as one of historical importance. It is now a place where traditional Sicilian Architecture is combined with contemporary art and living. ... more   less
