We stayed two nights with the whole family and had a really nice stay. Felt like home! The family is super helpful and sweet, gave us some amazing tips for daytrips and we had some very interesting conversations. Aaand they make amazing pizzas ;)
This was my second stay at Calle 12,Came to visit Caibarien 3 yrs ago to visit family and returned again as before I needed a comfortable place to stay with cool AC, hot shower and a great breakfast. Room was comfortable and clean and the owners were fantastic, providing service, transportation and if desired a great dinner of fish or crabs their specialties. Would surely return again.
We spent three nights in Hostel Calle 12. Everything was perfect. The room, big enough had a nice access to an external balcony. The house is really nice and typical with a big terrace for relaxing sunset. The best of this experience has been the family and their food. In this hostel we had the best dinner ever in all Cuba and at a fair cost (best fish soup in the world for sure). We really suggest this hostel if the aim is to pass some days in Cayo Santa Maria (the host has been really kind in helping us with the rent of the taxi).
The rooms were clean , mini bar was full , breakfast was good , a dinner is like in some five star restaurant . Also Juanito can arrange good wine for dinner. After only two nights we become like old friends , our 5 year old boy was feeling like he was at home ( he got a special gift from the owner). I would recomended to stay there , best place to visit Cayo Santa Maria .
I stayed in this clean and charming guesthouse during my roadtrip through Cuba. The entire family was very welcoming and put me in touch with local kitesurfers for some fun trips to the beautiful beaches of Cayo Santa Maria. The double room facing a small atrium was spotless, with AC, fan and even a Mini Bar. I loved walking around the streets of Caibarien with its beautiful houses and charming flair. It was a great base to venture out to the nearby National Park and neighbouring towns such as Remedios and Santa Clara.
Juanito and the whole family will make you feel a part of the culture and their family. You will learn a lot of history of the area, eat amazing food they cook at the house, have music, dance , sing and really get a full look of what you can do and where you can go. Anything is possible here I can’t say enough about our stay and the warmth and professionalism .
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Hostal Calle 12. The house was clean, the food fantastic and plentiful. Six rooms to choose from. Some are upstairs with a small patio to catch the sun or others downstairs that open to a traditional Spanish style inner courtyard. We chose a room on the lower floor so that we could sit in the courtyard and converse with the family, who were more than happy to do the same. They were both very attentive to our needs. Ask Juan about the new open air bar near the sea in Caibarien. The drinks are exceptionally cheap and it is a nice quiet night time destination. Juan organized a taxi for us to Cayo Santa Maria while Clara packed us a lunch to go. Santa Maria is a ways out on the causeway, so plan to stay most of the day and watch out for thistles among the vegetation if you are in bare feet. On a calm day, this beach is one of the most beautiful in Cuba. New hotels in the area are increasing the foot traffic on the beach but still in small numbers. We will be back and here is why. Three times we have been to Santa Maria, two times we stayed in Remedios, but this is the first time in Caibarien. Caibarien is the friendliest town that I have been to in the 15 times of touring central Cuba. I am not going back for the beach, as beautiful as it is, but to soak up the memorable hospitality that starts at Hostal Calle 12 and spills throughout the streets of Caibarien. Authentic Cuba at its best.…
A beautiful and relaxing guesthouse run by a lovely cuban family. They serve nice breakfasts and superbly fresh and beautifully prepared seafood for dinner in a spacious open room facing the patio. The rooms are clean and comfortable, most equipped with their own bathrooms. Highly recommended for anybody who appreciates genuine cuban hospitality!
