LOVE the spacious lobby with awesome service! Pool bar server Oscar was on the ball and even made me some his specialty drinks as I do not drink beer or sweet drinks. The pool did not feel overcrowded and we had no issues with getting a lounger.
As for the food, it was not bad.At the snack bar you can order fries, hamburgers, hot dogs and ham & cheese sandwich. There is pizza served at the beach snack bar but never got to taste it as people were vultures and they would run out.
The Bad: the main buffet was a nightmare! The food area way to small to accomodate such a large resort. Crazy long line ups, there were two toasters with one not working, cutlery missing on the tables, dirty dishes everywhere and stained chairs. They are understaffed and overworked.
The entertainment was good. They work hard and put on great shows.
Visiting Pillar Beach is a must! absolutely the best beach i have ever been to. You can take a taxi for $5 per person or the double decker bus for $5 per person with your return.
Our housekeeper Wendy did an amazing jog with keeping our room clean with little notes that put a smile on my face.
Would i visit this resort again? not sure as there are so many other places to visit but i will say that my husband and I had a very relaxing week.
Rooms are still modern and quite large, and still in very good condition. We were in building 4, close to the lobby and pool area, however it was noisy on two nights, due to events happening around the pool area.
The food, in my personal opinion, was very good with many choices on the buffet, but I can see it becoming monotonous on extended stays. We must remember that we are not on an Americanized island and the standards and food availability are definitely different than the Dominican, Jamaica etc. The a’la carts are decent, with the Indian seemingly the crowd favourite.
The pools are a great place to relax and kept in good, clean condition. In my opinion the beach is outstanding, kept mostly clean and free from seaweed and other debris. Playa Pilar is a 5 minute taxi ride away and certainly worth spending at least a day there. Lots of palapa’s and lounge chairs to go around, even with the resort at full capacity. I would suggest that you consider bringing your own beach towels as the ones available require a 15 cuc deposit, and if your towel becomes lost you will have to pay for the replacement.
Lobby and bars are plentiful and most are equipped with espresso machines as well as your mixed drinks.
The staff make your stay so enjoyable. Almost without exception all the staff we encountered were super friendly, personable and positive! They really make your vacation enjoyable and do their best to accommodate any of your requests or concerns. Shout out to Yarosky on the beach and Viktor at the beach bar.
The only negative issues I can relay to you concern some of guests. The amount of pushing and rudeness I witnessed in the cafeteria had me feeling ashamed to be from the same country as them. Same goes for anyplace that saw people lined up to wait for something, ie; lobby bar, poolside bar, etc. Relax people, no one is going to go hungry or miss out on a cold drink or anything!! Unbelievable displays of ignorance, greed, and rudeness, absolutely the worst tourist behaviour I have ever seen on any resort I’ve been to.
The Muthu burger at the 24 hour snack bar is no longer available, come on management, bring that back !!
Overall, a wonderful vacation at a beautiful resort and already we are planning our next visit here for July!!
The worst part of this resort is the food, not just the lack of variety, the toughness of the food, the lack of taste but the food safety of the food. We kept complaining about the temperature of the food in the keep warm buffet. The food was not hot when it is brought out to be served. Those containers are meant to help maintain food temperatures, not heat them up!
I saw one of the food prep people loading up the meat slices without having any plastic gloves on. I asked her where her gloves were! A couple of days before our trip was over, at the buffet I saw a chicken dish where the heat gauge was reading at only 33 degrees celcius, which is very dangerous. The Chef was standing right there when I told him that the food wasn't being kept hot enough. His answer was that they were having trouble with the heater. I point blank told him he was going to make people sick!
This was our first trip to Cuba, we have been many times to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica and Costa Rica. I have never had such a worst experience in my life.
If you are expecting to have beer or pop in your mini fridge, forget it. We had it the first 2 days we were there but after that we had to nag the hotel representative and complain every day.

Best way for me to review the different aspects is a 1 to 10 scale.
1 is bad: 10 is excellent
Resort Busy-ness (# of guests staying): 8/10
Safe feeling: 9/10
Beach Quality: 7/10 (wasnt fine sand but more grainy feeling on the feet)
Pool quality: 7.5/10 (day beds were very stained)
Cleanliness Overall: 6/10
Room cleanliness: 6/10
Buffet cleanliness: 4/10
All chairs stained and not pretty to look at. I had a hard time at first with this but had to get over it as it's the only place to sit.
No bowls for cereal for kiddos. We used the available soup bowls for cereal.
Bread was delicious. Desserts were 6/10. Spoons available when requested.
Buffet staff: 7/10
Food Overall: 5.5/10
Buffet food options: 5/10 (long wait time for fresh cooked pasta/meat which caused buffet congestion. Fresh food quality: 7/10)
Buffet Size: small for # of guests
Food Seafood a la cart: 4/10 (paid extra for lobster meal which turned the rating from 3 to 4)
Food Indian a la cart: 9/10
A la Cart availability: 1/10
We tried booking our 3 a la cart options on day 2 for 7 adults and 2 kids. We were willing to sit at split tables too. 3 restaurant options indian, seafood, Italian and International which closed.
We were told our only option was indian on day 5 and seafood on day 6. We were not able to choose when we can dine.
24hr Snackbar food quality: 6.5/10
Burgers, hot dogs, fries, ham and cheese sandwiches with a very small buffet at lunch.
Staff Friendliness: 5/10 half were really nice and other half were not as personable. Groundskeepers/room cleaners were some of the friendliest
Entertainment: 9/10 (pool show was excellent)
Alcohol availability: 5/10 (bars would run out of common drinks)
Wifi availability: 1 peso/hr (can turn wifi off to preserve the rest of the hour when needed)
Wifi coverage: good. Good internet speeds
Weather was beautiful however slightly windy at times.
Overall we would not come back nor reccomend this resort for the price we paid for our stay. (2 adults and 1 toddler approx $3200. Would go back if price was closer to $2500)
Our Transat rep at the hotel was incredibly helpful and informative, we booked a few excursions and had an amazing time on all of them.
The resort did not feel like it was over crowded and you could always find a lounge chair at both the pool and beach.
I wasn’t overly impressed with the maid service in the room, the one day the regular person was off it was the cleanest day of the entire week. The only real complaints I have are the ignorance and lack of manners & respect from some of the other guests which is not the resorts fault. We did have an issue with the toilet not working in our room one afternoon and called to have it looked at. We were told to wait in the room and someone would come right away but no one came. Called again a couple hours later and was told someone would be right there only to yet again wait for no one. I got impatient and managed to fix it myself that night, it wasn’t until 10am the next day that someone from maintenance knocked on the door. A complete waste of an afternoon waiting around for nothing but on the grand scale, not life altering. (We did accidentally get locked out of the I room safe one day and when we called the gentleman that came was there in 5 minutes, had us fixed quickly and with a smile)
We’ve been to the DR & Cuba multiple times before but never had such a great overall experience on any vacation anywhere else. It truly was a trip to remember and my son is already starting to fill the trip piggy bank.
Italian restaurant was great. Service was fast. We had reservations at the international a la carte and when we arrived, we were told they were closed due to “bad water”. Ummmm ?? Thanks for telling us ahead of time!
The hotel itself is nice and the rooms were clean. We did have a few issues with a couple of the bartenders not being very polite or friendly and would serve other people first even if they saw we were standing there.
Definitely not a 4-4.5 star resort. Barely a 3 in my opinion. How do we get a refund??
