The Smugglers is a stone built, converted school house just along from the main square in Tomintoul. It is well situated for the village and the surrounding highlands, Aviemore, Glenmore, Glenlivet trails, The Lecht etc. are easily accessible from here. The room was fairly basic with bunk beds, a side table and some lockers but most importantly was warm and...

Tomintoul is a beautiful town of 400 people, and the Smuggler's Hostel is a great play to stay. Quiet, clean, and well managed, it served all of our needs while we were in this town. BTW, the town itself is amazing. Make sure to check out the pub down the street.

A nice warm, clean friendly place. The staff we very nice and happy to answer any questions. Plenty of information on places to eat thought the kitchen in the hostel was well equipped. I thought it was great that tea and coffe were included, so nice to be able to get there and make a brew without having to dig...

the hostel is a quaint refurb of an old tradtional village school. its fairly rough and ready, but clean and well kept. very relaxed atmosphere, with a fantastic kitchen/communal area to suit large cookups. secure cycle storage and a drying room are good extras to have if you are being active. parking is limited and a if you have a...

We enjoyed our stay very much and had a great time. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were ok too. The kitchen area was very big and allowed us to have enough space for birthday party for 20 people. it was quite cold though, as some heaters were broken. Warning - watch out for the locals who might try...

This hostel is in a beautiful if remote location, great for hillwalking and a variety of other outdoor activities. I stayed one night prior to running the Tartan 10km at Balmoral. The staff were really friendly, and happy for us to make a late arrival at short notice. The hostel was well equipped with a nice common room. We were...

Spent one night in the highest hostel of the UK. We were alone as off-season. I understand they want to do some work to it e.g. heating. The host was very friendly and even brought us some eggs (including a duck egg) for breakfast. Breakfast as part of the stay would be a great addition.

We had a large group and stayed two nights. Friendly staff, good service, a little confusion as to how much cleaning we were expected to do. Were unable to find tea, coffee and washing up liquid but made do. The kitchen was nice and big, plenty of space to sit and relax, rooms were comfortable, warm. Had to borrow a...

It was great! It's homey, clean, comfortable, there's a big kitchen. And most of all Kerry is a wonderful host!!! Tomintoul is a small village in the middle of the Speyside in the Cairngorms national park, witch make it a perfect location. There's a couple of pubs and restaurants.
