La Carolina Lodge brings you back to the days when Costa Rica was pura vida! The staff is like family, the food cooked on a wood burning stove and fresh squeezed juices are a party for your taste buds! The gardens overflow with colorful flowers and green pastures keep the horses healthy and strong. Stay overnight and hit the magical...

We wish that we had more time here! We spent two nights. After coming from the hot Guanacaste coast the shady jungle and lush pastures were delightful. I was a little wary at the drive on the bumpy road and as it was our first experience with Costa Rica rural dirt roads and we went very slowly after the turn...

This was our 2nd stay at La Carolina Lodge. We were here 8 years ago and it has grown more beautiful and the meals are more varied. They actually have a pastry chef come in every day to prepare delicious desserts! We rode horses when we felt like it; the horses are wonderfully trained using gentle methods; when they aren't...

I really didn't know where to go. My friend suggested La Carolina Lodge, a little bit of magic. Bill and Karien make you feel like your one of the family. The waterfall, the horseback riding, the staff, the hot tub, the food all make this magic. Their two kids are just a treat. If you want to do something they...

We stumbled on a preservation at La Carolina Lodge and it was a fantastic experience. We were placed in a small and rustic cabin near the river which lulled us to sleep at night. The cabin was spacious and comfortable but we didn't spend much time in it other than to sleep. Between the swimming hole, the hot tub, the...

We just got back from a 2 week vacation exploring Costa Rica, and wish we could have stayed at La Carolina longer! It is absolutely incredible. We had our 15 and 16 year olds with us, and they just loved it. Everything is natural... The grounds, the food, the swimming. Back to nature and the necessities, everything was a perfect...

We just returned Tuesday from a 12 day trip to Costa Rica with our three children (ages 15, 9 and 7). We visited Monteverde, Arenal and Montezuma. Our favorite part of the trip was our stay at La Carolina. What a magical place Bill & Karien have created. With a 4wd it was easy to get to and well worth...

Our family loved La Carolina. We stayed for 2 days, and we had all kinds of fun. We love the horseback rides (Alejandro was an excellent guide, and he trained all of the horses at the site). The horses were just great, and the countryside was gorgeous. We hiked with Alejandro to Rio Celeste, which was beautiful but very muddy....

A perfect location to enjoy a couple of days in real nature with hiking, horse riding, and great local food. The lodge is the heart of a farm, owned by Bill and Karien Harwell, a passioned and very professional host couple who is perfectly taking care for the guests. The lodge is situated in a little rainforest where the colorful...
