We stayed here in January and loved it. My girlfriend and I decided to go for the luxury side of things and stayed in their Toucan cabin. We usually don't do this but the rates were pretty resonable and figured why not. This place was great. I wasn't sure about the private outdoor hot tub when I read about it...

This was truly the most relaxing, wonderful, romantic little spot we have ever found. A perfect blend of rustic and elegent. The food was all fresh from the farm, the staff was wonderfully accomodating and we fire heated hot tub was the coolest thing we had ever seen! We splerged and got the cabin with the private tub on the...

We were in La Carolina for 2 nights and really liked our stay. Our cabin was La Amapola which was the perfect size for our family of 4. As described in the website, the place is really rustic. So if you're looking for high-end amenities, air-conditioning, and you are the type who wants to be constantly connected via phone/wi-fi, this...

This is by far the most amazing place we stayed during our trip to Costa Rica. If you want to relax and experience pure Costa Rica then look no further. Our little cabin had a wood fired hot tub off the deck and a hammock that let you swing away your cares. Listening to the rain on the roof of...

Our family loved this place! We visited for two nights with our 1 and 4 year-old daughters in mid-March, and wished we could have stayed longer. Our cabin was La Mariposa, the one in the main photo for this listing. It was cute, cosy and clean, and right by the river, which lulled us to sleep at night. The property...

Staying at La Carolina is a unique experience you will not soon forget. There are not many places you can go these days where there are no locks, little electricity, candle lighting and you still feel completely comfortable. Even though they are described as 'rustic' accomidations, I had one of the best night's sleep in Costa Rica on their comfortable...

We arrived at la Carolina lodge April 4th for 2 nights. This was the coolest stay. I'm always on the go and to arrive in C.R. And start off at this amazing cabin overlooking the river. There are no locks, a bit of electricity, and all meals are together with all the guests. If you want to take part in...

The location is fantastic. Beautiful, functional cabins where we were lulled to sleep by the river, cicadas, and howler monkeys. The birds, lizards, monkeys, butterflies, and fish at the lodge are fascinating. The food was delicious at every meal. Alejandro is a great horseman and guide. We had fun watching him patiently deal with an uncooperative young horse one morning,...

Food? Home-grown, healthy, delicious. Lodging? Comfortable, all-you-need with no frills, perfect for a true getaway. Staff? Friendly, accommodating, incredibly knowledgable (ask Alejandro anything - the language barrier may stump him but he'll figure it out). Surroundings? Surreal. Photo op's? Don't blink or you'll miss one. Activities? What about milking cows isn't FUN?! Of course, there's also the hiking, horseback riding,...

If you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing "off the beaten path" vacation spot: This is it! We stayed 2 nights at the cabin by the river. Although there is limited electricity and it was 97 degrees out, it was cool enough at night, that we didn't need air conditioning. Due to my misunderstanding, we almost didn't stay after...
