The only conceivable reasons that Manicou does not have more excellent reviews are that 1) only three couples stay there at a time and 2) people want to keep the place a secret so that they can have it to themselves.

My husband and I stayed at Manicou for our honeymoon. It was absolutely AMAZING. The staff was friendly and helpful. The view from the room was breathtaking. We can't wait to come back for a visit, and possibly in the future, move to Dominica.

Actually NYC is one of the easiest start-points for getting to Dominica. Have you looked at Jet Blue via San Juan or St Lucia or AA via San Jan? Also check out Norwegian Airlines. They have very cheap fairs to the French Islands - Martinique and Guadeloupe. From their you can fly or take a ferry.
