I have stayed at the property, many times over the years. There arent really many choices, in Hearst, so you have to accept that situation. The food is decent in the restaurant, and the bar on site is convenient. The newer rooms, are comfortable.
There is 6 of us after a long day of work, the food order went in at 6:30 dinner finally arrived close to 8:45 and defiantly NOT worth the terrible wait. We are here for close to three weeks and will not be wasting any time and or money at the Companion again.
Stayed for only one night, but the rooms were clean, comfortable, and the motel was quiet. We were on the back side of the hotel, so you are looking onto the sawmill. Interesting to watch, and with the door closed, the noise stayed outside! Ate twice at the restaurant, supper and breakfast, both were very good, and the portions generous.
At first glance this motel looks like many others: the decor is ok, rooms are clean, nothing fancy. But we gave it 4 stars because of the people and restaurant. Having an open restaurant right now is a plus itself, but the menu was quite varied and our meals were tasty! We were most impressed with the people there. Extremely friendly and ready to help, from the front desk to the restaurant. We and my parents were very pleased with our stay. Just wonderful!
Had a good stay as always. Rooms are clean and look just overhauled. Restaurant and bar are open again and hit it on Wednesday for wing night. Will be back again I am sure. Only back thing is lots of folks from GTA up here spreading the COVID in these small town
From the phone call to book to the check in, the staff was really friendly. The room was a good size, beds were very comfortable. The draw back was no easy access plug for a c-pap machine but the desk had a power bar and I always travel with an extension cord. Inside and outside access to the room. Onsite restaurant was good. Only 2 'bath' towels for a double room, but 4 coffee servings in the room which was a first in 1 week's travelling. The hotel provided some towels that we could use to wipe down our motorcycles. The room faced the road but it was surprisingly quiet. Would definitely come back.
Very clean spacious rooms. All excercise room. Restaurant and bar. Also a real good location right in town. The cost is reasonable. $100 per night. I do recommend it. Its also a good place as family. The only thing missing is perhaps a microwave in the room. They give us access to a common one on the main floor.
I called by phone reserved a room. Called before I left on the trip to reconfirm. On arrival was told WE DON'T HAVE A ROOM for you! Tour bus parked outside I expect THAT room went to someone in the bus? I arrived by rail, no vehicle and was told sorry, basically go away! Imagine being left out in the northland with your suitcase and no place to stay in a one horse town!!! While I was there, another person came in...told the same thing only he had a vehicle to drive away in. These are the most unscrupulous people I have EVER dealt with! ANGRY...you bet I was and still am!
Overall the stay was acceptable. The rooms don't have microwaves, there is a public microwave, but I wasn't told this by staff and happened to notice it by chance. Really wish they would have informed me from the beginning. Restaurant/bar is okay, the wifi is god awful, room was dated, but seemed clean. Lumber mill operates 24/7 behind the hotel = loud at all hours. The Queen hotel is right beside the Companion, so I'm assuming the noise level and horrible wifi are probably about equal.
The hotel is on the main highway and easy to find. Rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet. Breakfast was excellent in the hotel dining room. The staff are bilingual and very friendly. I would definitely stay again.
