Detailed Reviews
I can't agree with the previous review. I am assuming t hat those visitors are used to staying in high end places like Government House maybe. My family stayed at Foley's B&B over the Easter weekend and couldn't have asked for better. The hospitality and consideration shown by the proprieters Gerard and Darlene was over and above what was expected. The service, cleanliness and availability of assistance was commendable and they will certainly stay there again when they visit in the future. We will recommend this B&B to anyone who wants a place to stay in Tilting.

As a party of four, who for the past 6 years, visited different areas of our home province, found the accomodation and hospitality at Foley's high on the list of places to stay.
Both Darleen and Gerard treated us like family and as busy as they are, gave us their full attention during our 3 day visit.
The rates are reasonable. All your needs and comforts are provided. The community of Tilting has a facinating history with much to offer those who want to take a walk around town.
A special mention to their neighbour Phillip Foley, and his friends who hang out at Phil's Shed.

I stayed at Foley's B & B on Dec 6/11. Really liked the rooms and the atmosphere of the B & B. I would highly recommend staying there. The owners are very helpful and accomodating. Titling is a beautiful community. I was very impressed and will be back to Fogo again...hopefully next summer. I suggest you ask directions to the nearby Artist residences...amazing! And visit Nicole's restaurant...an A+ experience in dining.

We arrived and met our host Darlene. She told us she was just cleaning the 'Red room' and our room was the 'Green room'. Before we climbed the stairs we asked for a room key and were told ther wasn't one as "someone took it." She said we weren't to worry as our stuff would be quite safe. She then asked us to pay her as they were leaving on the 7am ferry. We asked for a map of the town so we could explore. She had one but it had been ripped into little bits so she could write notes. HUH??? Could she tell us a bit about Tilting? Well, not really. We asked about the old 'Irish graveyard' and as that was just down the road, she pointed that out to us.
Darlene took us through to the kitchen and told us the breakfast was self-serve continental. There were bagels and a loaf of bread and a coffee maker. There was juice and some jars of jam and some margarine in the fridge.......all no name stuff.
We paid her and went up to our room. It was awful. The vinyl floor was lifting. There was no closet.....just a rolling rail with 4 hangers. We went to the ensuite to wash our hands and the tap came off. There was a TV but no place to sit but the bed.
She was about to go out and we asked where we could go and eat. The famous restaurant 'Nicoles' was closed and she said there was only a Chester Fired Chicken in another town. Off we went and found it was just a takeout place that smelled of grease. We finally went to a grocery store and bought some crackers and cheese for our meal which we ate on our bed in our room.
Another couple came and we were the ones to greet them. They were most unimpressed and the only foofd they could buy was some Kraft dinner at a gas station as the grocery was closed by then. The phone rang. It was Darlene asking if they could pay her right away as they were taking that 7am ferry. She showed up and they paid her and asked why we were not getting a cooked breakfast. No good answer and she left.
We all wondered why she kept leaving and only then did it dawn on us that she did not live here.
We decided we were able to use the whole house so we came downstairs to watch some tv and gripe about the place. I should also mention that there is no WIFI as advertised. We asked why that was and she said, "Well our computer works." HUH????
So we got no hospitality, no service and no decent breakfast. We rate this place 1/2 star and recommend everyone to try another place.
Fogo Island is really pretty. There were cariboo in the distance and everyone else we spoke to was very friendly. Too bad the owners of Foley's place are not.

We stayed at this bed and breakfast this summer. The location of the B&B is wonderful, the view is excellent. A very good thing is the availability of a washing machine and a dryer. The bedroom was extremely small. The room barely accommodates two adults, the bathroom is small as well. All in all it is average, nothing great, nothing bad. One reason for the title of the review is that the hosts do not live in the house. There are I believe 4 bedrooms, a common area and a kitchen. So everything is do it yourself, which can be good and bad. The day we arrived a couple from Quebec that was fishing and camping for several days decided to clean their camping and fishing gear throughout the house. What a sight! The hosts are very good in keeping a wide variety of breakfast items and snack items in the kitchen, except our friends from Quebec kept taking boxes of cookies and loafs of bread for their daily adventures. So the next morning almost all the food was always gone. Not having a host can be good because you can do what you want and make breakfast they way you like it, but if you have other jerks abusing this, your stay is not enjoyable.

My husband and I stayed at Foley's/Tilting Harbour B & B in July 2017. The house is located in a lovely area of a gorgeous island. The innkeeper is new and has a lot to learn about how to run a B & B. After navigating our way past garbage and 12 pairs of shoes on a dirty floor by the front door, we found Tom, the innkeeper in the kitchen. He had no particular greeting, leaving it up to me to explain our presence. The kitchen, like the rest of the house, was dirty. The house needs work, which could easily be done. But there is no substitute for a broom and a mop. Note: No smoke detector in our room.

This is a self serve B & B but it was not advertised as such. We were not told to just walk in so we spent time trying to contact the hosts unnecessarily. The breakfast was bear bones serve ourselves. No fresh fruit, yogurt etc just juice, coffee, tea and white bread with spreads that we made ourselves.
The bed was incredibly uncomfortable and the whole house is sloping so I felt that i was going to roll out of bed the whole time.
There is no where to eat in Tilting and reservations are a must wherever on the island you go.
The "hosts" did not seem very interested in the B & B and I noticed it was for sale.
It was overpriced for what we got.

In our 3 week travels in Newfoundland we had great stays at fun places and this wasn't terrible, but just lacking. Tom the new owner, had given the place a new name (Tilting Harbour B&B) and said that he had worked as host of the Fogo Island Inn dining. He might be intending to update the basic upstairs rooms and halls with and curling vinyl floors, but hadn't got around to it yet. Perhaps he figured that messaging on his phone was more important than showing an interest in his guests, but each of the 2 mornings when we said "good morning" he never looked up from his phone to say good morning to
us. The breakfasts were good (although you had to set up your own places from plates/cutlery/napkins/etc) and he had interesting information to impart when engaged. The B&B price was very reasonable, but he certainly Tom was one of the least hospitable hosts we have ever met.

The location of this B&B is excellent which was the main attraction. I was a little disappointed in the remainder of the hotel. The rooms were nice and the bed was comfortable but they were nothing to rave about. I would recommend bringing ear plugs if you are a light sleeper as although there is no outside noise, because of the age of the home and the small size, voices carry even when individuals are talking normally. We did not have a chance to stay for breakfast so I cannot review that portion.

Spent one night last week at Tilting Harbour B&B in a comfortable room with a lovely view out to the sea. Bed was very comfortable and room very clean. Enjoyed a delicious breakfast of just-made blueberry scones and good coffee. The owner, Tom, pointed out a good walk nearby which brought me over to the old Irish graveyard and a spectacular view of the ocean where one of the modern artist's retreat cabins built by the Shorefast Foundation is perched on a cliff. Would definitely stay again.

Unfortunately I'm fully booked at that time, you could check the town of Fogo Island website for a list of other places.
Thanks
Tom
No to step on any toes but I know that this place just opened up called Fogo Island Suites in Deep Bay I believe they are only on Facebook at the moment.
Hi.
Unfortunately I'm fully booked at that time. If you do a google search for Town of Fogo island there is a website with a list of all the accommodations available on the island. It you could try Airbnb
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Tom.
Hi Danielle. Unfortunately I'm sold out at that time, the island has been booking up quickly for the season. If you do a google search for the Town of Fogo Island there is a website that lists all the accommodations on the island.
Thanks for thinking of my place
Tom.
