The hotel is an easy walk from the old part of the city. The views are stunning. The room was clean and well appointed. Unfortunately, the restaurant was disappointing. The service was poor and one dish we ordered never came to the table. The food that did arrive was marginal. After two weeks of incredible meals in Tuscany, it was hard to settle for flavorless food. The reception staff was friendly and helpful, especially Marta. We would stay here again, but will be doing our meals in local restaurants - not the hotel.

Very good hotel with a great location and wonderful view over the Tuscany landscape. Clean room, professional staff, lovely pool and breafast served at the terrace with a beautiful view over the landscape. Unfortunately the restaurant can't be recommended. Dinner was served indoors without any view over the landscape. The most popular wines on the wine list were not available. The cheesecake served as desert tasted only cream without cheese.

We stayed 1 night here and it was nice.
The room had a great view of the backyard, over the pool and the hils.
Clean room with nice furniture; you have towels, soap/shampoo/shower gel. Good wifi. Breakfast good, a little diverse. Nice and polite personnel.

The ladies that work in this hotel are rude and have no idea how people should behave in the Hospitality industry.
The men were better and because of them I gave the one star.
There is a lady in the reception, who refused to give us a table for dinner, even though many tables were available, and we were staying in the Hotel. Later, an older man, he had no trouble reserving a Table for us. There's a chubby looking waitress, who was also extremely rude. and in all these cases the behaviour was downright racist.
The rooms were small and no room service were available.
A hotel, we want to forget.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights as part of a walking tour of Tuscany. The other hotels we had stayed at were lovely and, really, Hotel Palazzuolo came as a shock to the system and it is difficult to describe our disappointment.
To start at the beginning - our arrival. We were 'greeted' (!) by a person who turned out to be the hotel manager. At first he was reluctant to stop reading his newspaper, eventually he looked at us and raised his eyebrows in question. We immediately christened him Basil but really Basil Fawlty had some charm and charisma this man had none. Check in was accomplished with very little spoken communication, he waved his arm firstly in the direct of where our cases had been left and then in the direction of where our rooms might be found! The rooms - badly decorated and poorly furnished with an extra chair/singlebed taking up much needed space but it was reasonably clean which is more than can be said for the shower room. The public rooms were not much better. The restaurant had all the appeal of a school canteen. The bar was large but only had two sofas so far apart that conversation was difficult. Bar staff were thin on the ground as they doubled up to wait at table, which brings me to THE FOOD. There was some sort of attempt at genuine Tuscan cuisine but I think it was sacrificed to the cost of ingredients. Dinner was a set menu, antipasti, a soup course, first course, second course and dessert. Menu planning was non existent. At one meal we had a pasta course with a beef sauce followed by beef stew. Most courses were served lukewarm and on our second night the pasta was so cold that we sent it back. The re-heated serving was almost inedible. The desserts were definitely from a school canteen menu. Breakfast was slightly better but there was a very large walking group staying in the hotel as well and there wasn't too much left for our small group when we went to breakfast.
The hotel is situated on the edge of a housing estate which made it quite difficult to find .
The swimming pool and surrounding gardens were good but the pool temperature seemed to be kept at sub zero and far too cold to even paddle in the shallow end.
We had walked about 20kms on the day we arrived at this hotel, our longest day's walk, and it is difficult to describe the disappointment we felt about this hotel. 'Basil' was just as uncommunitive at checkout as on our arrival.
Our rep was aware of the deficiencies of this hotel and said the company were trying to find an alternative.
The only thing nice to say about this hotel is that the staff (apart from the manager) were very friendly and helpful and worked hard in what seemed to us very trying circumstances.
...........and finally. To anyone who has stayed there earlier on this year - NO - the air con hasn't been repaired yet.

My wife and I have stayed at the Palazzuolo three times in the last four years. The hotel is well-situated, has clean rooms and a decent restaurant. However, it's hardly a bargain for this area at ~110E for a double. In addition, the front desk staff is aloof and they stand idly by as older English hike/bike tours run roughshod over other guests. On multiple occasions, we've been (alternatively) told by their guides that we needed to vacate our table in the restaurant to make room for tour members (false) and that the breakfast buffet was for the exclusive benefit of the tour (false). We can more or less rely that tour members will bull rush the buffet and subject other guests to some of the rudest most boorish behavior I have witnessed in my 20 years traveling in Central Italy. To make matters worse, tours coalesce in and physically block the lobby between 8-10am. Kind requests to move aside are met with cold stares and non-compliance. We have considerable experience in this area and can attest there are many less expensive and more hospitable establishments. We've been a little hard-headed about the Palazzuolo due to its very central location. This is no longer enough for us, and we won't be back.

A beautifully situated hotel, very clean with a nice layout of dining room, lounge areas, pool, elevator, and good views. The front desk in the morning was presided over by an indifferent receptionist, male, who preferred to read his paper and if he spoke at all, it was with grunts. Dinner in the evenings offered very well prepared Tuscan meals, delivery of which was quite abrupt with server bursting through kitchen door, dropping down plates without ceremony, actually stepping on someone's bare toes in the process, rush rush rush, rather like a factory assembly line. Walls between rooms are paper thin. Third floor would be quieter. One could easily forget all this, immersed in the Tuscan countryside and the warm sun and special golden light reflected from fields and hills, so I would stay here again for its location in the delightful town of San Quirica d'Orcia with an upper floor room. My second floor room looked over the pool and view of the countryside. The top floor in the older part of the hotel would have improved my stay considerably in terms of more quiet and same view.

Look I can see the reviews but we really hit this hotel at the wrong time becuase our stay was not very good at all. Let's start with the positive, the hotel is in a nice location on the edge of town but still a nice 15min stroll to the center. The pool area has a lovely view. Now, on arrival we struggled with our bags while the man on reception watched, approached the counter no hello, no greeting, actually he looked very grumpy on the verge of angry. We offered our passport, nothing not a word, he fussed over papers for 10mins, huffing, finally put a key on counter and that was it. I have never had such a bad welcome in a hotel ever. We asked for directions to find our room, but he had turned his back and was off. The room was tiny and hot. We tried to get the aircon working, being an extremely hot Italian summer day. Nope. Asked reception, no there is no aircon is what we could work out. Whether permantly or just today I don't know, but no attempt to recitify. Terrible nights sleep with windows open and mosquito/midges in. I had flown into Italy that morning for a Tuscan holiday and was already upset, feeling like the next 3 weeks was going to be hoteliers like this. So without aircon we went down to the pool hoping to cool off. Into the pool we go, so relaxing, beautiful, a little caravan park with unkept lawns etc but hey I'm in Southern Tuscany, I should get over it. Within 5mins a staff member came over to tell me I wasn't allowed to swim without a bathing cap and as she is going on lunch in 5mins we can't swim without a life guard on duty, she will be back in hour. Stunned doesn't describe how I felt, nor does angry. We got out the pool, walked into town and ordered a stiff drink at the local cafe to calm down. That night we ate at the restaurant and was served the worst deep fried battered vegetables, Ive ever eaten (soggy) and greasy poultry with oily fennel bake. We didn't eat at the restaurant again. Look I really wanted to like this place, but it just wasn't for us. I think it would suit families who are after an affordable basic base for activities during the day and people who can speak Italian. We didn't find this hotel comfortable and it lacked even basic hospitality driven service.

Nicely located, about ten minutes walk from a wonderful small town and with a splendid view over the Tuscan countryside (large garden + terrace). Excellent outside pool (15 meters). Very friendly service. Rooms at ground floor level are good, the ones at -1 less so. Very acceptable breakfast buffet & restaurant.

We stayed here as part of a walking group and were made very welcome. As San Quirico is only a 7 minute walk away, it was the perfect location with lovely grounds and a view from the balcony off the dining room of the beautiful Tuscan hills. All spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly and responsive to our needs. Try the owner's wine - better than the more famous Brunello and much cheaper!
