Myself and my fiance stayed at the hotel from the 18th June to the 3rd July 2006. We feel we have to agree with the previous review for the Sol "the good, the bad etc"... would never go to this hotel again food crap, mostquitos infested to say the least, staff very unhelpful, flies all over food at babarcue restraunt, drinks served in plastic kiddies party cups, found glass in food, constantly having to tip to get anything done when paid all inclusive, 2 hours away from the nearest town, this is not a 4... Having just arrived back from the Sol Cayo Santa Maria I find it necessary to warn those thinking of booking during the rainy season to this island that we named 'Cayo Santa Mosquito' quite soon after arriving! Just come back from this hotel and we are so glad to be back. I must have been bitten over a hundread times, there was no nets in the room and they found a way in easily. They spoilt the holiday, the pool was full of mosquito's so we had t go to the beach. The beach was superb could... More

4th July 2006, Just back from this resort. Heeded all contents of previous reviews ref mosquitoes, flight cramped etc. Took out Wilkinsons Jungle formula, mosquito plug, candles etc...mosquito bite cream also (tube left over from Tunsia so must be good stuff). Yes quite a few guests were biten but now with hindsight, the problem was between airport and hotel room... More

Avoid the Sol Cayo Santa Maria at all costs during the rainy season. There is a massive mosquito problem at this hotel and the rooms do not have mosquito nets. sol cayo santa maria returned back on 5/6/06 and never been so glad to get back home, the food was terrible saw pork and chicken being cooked on tha same griddle letting it get cold the peaple never wear gloves when handling food there are cats cats cats everywere the staff are so frendly and very nice the thomas cook...
