Lovely boutique beachfront hotel in Rossano, Italy. We attended a wedding and this was one of the hotel's that the bride and groom blocked for their guests. We concluded that the hotel caters only to Italian tourists, because they were not equipped to handle an influx of guests from the USA and England who spoke only English. My husband who does speak Italian was our guide, thank goodness, but even he had difficulty communicating with the hotel management as they repeatedly told him we had no reservation. When we arrived the young woman at the desk only knew two words"Booking Number" which she repeated at least ten times - I tried to explain to her that I did not have a booking number, only an email confirmation that our room was booked. I was showing her the email and my husband was asking her who this person was that signed the email and she said "Me" - but she continued to ask for the same Booking Number over and over even when we pointed to her register on the desk and saw our name on the list. Communication was extremely trying and the management lacked warmth and understanding. The other problem we encountered was that our daughter and son-in-law were staying at another location - if they came to visit us, or meet us to go out for dinner etc., they were not allowed up to our room because they were not guests of the hotel. It was ridiculous - one night the even blocked the elevator as our "kids" stopped by to drop something off. Air-conditioning in the room was centrally turned off every day between 10-2:00 pm and then again in the evening for several hours - try getting dressed to go out in 90 degree heat with no air in the room!! On the plus side, the morning breakfast was included and plentiful and served in a very nicely decorated dining room -the menu was very heavy on the carbohydrate side (cakes, pastries, breads etc.) several guests asked for eggs and we were told NO eggs could be made; unusual as many hotels around Italy serve eggs, bacon, cheese etc. Hotel location is right across from the beach and the owner has a restaurant on the beach which also serves very good food. Lots of restaurants and parks all along the road; a very active area especially throughout the evening.

Hotel Murano was great! The owner, Fabio Murano, was very personable and helpful to us. He helped direct us around the city, as we don't speak Italian/Calabrese. The food during breakfast was wonderful. Lots of restaurants, a bar and some hangouts along the beach. A short 15 min drive to downtown, and most of Rossano is very easy to navigate. The only complaint is that the bed was a bit flimsy and too firm for my liking. Hotel was clean, had character, and was adorable.
