We walked into our 2 bedroom suite to be greeted by an awful and overwhelming smell. The carpets in the master bedroom and walk-in closet were wet and filthy. We called the front desk to inquire and they said management was gone for the day and would contact us in the morning. By late afternoon on day 2 we went to the desk only to be told there was nothing they could do.
As I was walking back to my suite another guest approached me and asked what room I was in, she then proceeded to inform me that she overheard the staff at the desk talking about the room that had beed flooded from a plugged toilet! Not only were we disgusted and shocked, we were stunned that they would knowingly put us in room with bacteria filled, untreated carpets with our infant and pre-schooler.
Management said they would only move us to a one bedroom which did not work for us but offered to comp the stay and add on 4 days if we kept the room and they ripped out the carpet in the closet and treated the bedroom properly. We agreed and then endured 3 more days of hell. They ripped out the carpet and underlay, leaving us with a dirty, noisy fan to dry the room. Came back to replace the underlay, and then, if you can believe this... brought back the old carpet and put in back in. The smell was enough to make you ill.
We went to the desk and they said what they did was normal and they were no longer going to comp our stay only offer a discount. We objected and asked why they would go back on their word, only to be told that there will be no discount now of any kind, we will be paying full price ($250 per night). We asked for a meeting with the owner and he came to our suite as we were checking out (one day early) as to avoid a scene at the desk, and proceeded to raise his voice refusing to let us speak one word or discuss the matter at all. We have never experienced customer service on this level and are upset and disappointed to have lost such precious holiday time to this establishment.
Other notes: the overall cleanliness of the rooms and balconies seems to worsen each year. I had to wash the floors as our socks were black, and clean piles of dead bugs from around the front and screen doors. The patio had sunflower seeds all over and a bunch of cigarette butts.
Needless to say, we will never return or refer the Chateau Suites to anyone.
When we were on our way home, we discovered that we had left behind some items in one of the drawers. The staff managed to locate the items and sent them out the next day. For this reason, alone, I would stay at this location again.
On the positive side, the suite is very open and roomy with a great view of the lake. The kitchen and bathroom were nice and clean.
Rather than moving us to rooms away from the noise (or even as an example offering ear plugs) we were made to feel that we just had to make do. Given that we were spending close to $200 for the night, we don't think it is unreasonable of us to expect a good night's sleep. When checking out, our conversation with someon else at the front desk was also one that was met with an attitude that lacked sympathy.
We escalated our dissatisfaction to the General Manager who in her words admitted that "This is not the first time we have had complaints about the noise coming from Northshore Pizza". We were further told that "Had the noise come from our establishment, I can assure you it would have been dealt with.... Unless there had been a suite available on the far west side of the building, I'm not sure that would have made a difference as they all face the same direction".
Not sure if you like to feel valued (and have a good night's sleep). If so look at other alternatives...next time we will!
