Plas Yn Dre is located in a convenient position on Bala High Street. Bala lies on the banks of LLyn Tegid, a busy rural town rich in history, from Socks to the Royalty to local legends like Mary Jones and Betsi Cadwallader. Plas Yn Dre has been a family run restaurant since 1990 but has gone through quite a transformation in 2017 with a complete re-vamp and the addition of 9 Guest Bedrooms. The building has been sympathetically built retaining as many of the original features of the historic building as possible and furnished and styled in a luxurious relaxed theme. The end result is stunning to say the least and we invite to to come and sample our wares for a drink in our snug or lounge bar, a meal in our relaxed dining room or a nights stay (or 3) in our luxurious rooms. Well behaved dogs are welcome in a few of our rooms. Our aim from the start was to provide stylish rooms, serve good fresh local food and provide an excellent experience for our guests.

2nd visit this week and again, we were not disappointed. We sat inside this time and the staff have clearly gone to a lot of effort to protect the guests in this COVID-19 atmosphere- lots of screens, hand sanitizer and clear rules on folk using toilet etc. Good to see.

The food was excellent- good choice but we both went for beef. It was outstanding , very soft, no fat whatsoever and a huge Yorkshire pudding. The portion size was spot on. I had sticky toffee pudding and my wife had brownie, again both very good and very tasty.

All in, 2 mains, 2 desserts and with 2 drinks each and coffee, £50. You can’t complain at that.

After 2 wet days camping in the hills, we needed a bit of comfort and booked a room there. The room was lovely with a huge Queen size bed and a powerful shower. The highlight for us was the staff. The lovely lady at reception really looked after us, from check-in to dining. With lockdown still in place, things were a bit different: we could only eat outside but she found us a covered table, breakfast was a goody bag left outside the room during the night, hot drinks available in the room. We both had chicken burgers for tea and the most amazing home made brownie. Would highly recommend.

We’ve stayed at Plas Yn Dre before and on this trip had to go back. They’ve got to grips with Social distancing with bays outside, there was hand sanitisers everywhere and the staff were super friendly. As before Plas Yn Dre delivered a fantastic base to tour from, Fantastic breakfast, lovely food in the evening and beer 😀. What more do you need ? I will be back again.

This is mostly a restaurant with rooms above. We stayed for two nights to climb Yr Wyddfa.
The room and ensuite were clean and well presented, there were plenty of tea-making sachets but ours had a poor view over the back of the building and car park. The doorways into the room and into the bathroom were very low (about 5foot 6 high).
Guests have to pre-order what they would like for breakfast, so of you don't want black pudding for example, you have to cross it off the list. The lady serving the breakfast appeared to be on her own and very busy; she had the radio on and was singing.
For what we paid for the two nights, Plas yn dre offers good value. I would stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. As other reviews have mentioned, the staff are so friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our room was spotlessly clean, modern and comfortable. Due to the current restrictions, breakfast was left outside our room-and consisted of fresh orange juice, croissant, muffin, snack bar and fruit, which was perfect.
We took our Labrador who much appreciated the doggy bag of various treats that she received! We will definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone.

Stayed here for 2 nights and had a lovely stay! Rooms were very clean, and staff very helpful.

Rooms come with shampoo and conditioner, hairdryer, television, and a safe. Free wifi is available, and plug sockets have USB outlets for easy device charging. There’s parking at the back of the hotel - this is a little tricky to find as you need to go down a back road and park behind the building. Set your sat nav for Arenig Street to find it!

We felt very safe. Rooms have modern keycard locks, and the hotel front door is locked after around 10 pm, with the keycard also opening this if you’re out a bit late.

Breakfast is ordered the night before which is handy as you come down in the morning and you have a bespoke table with your food choices brought to you shortly afterwards.

Location is also very handy. Short walk to the lake, and Snowdon is a relatively short drive away.

The company we booked through altered us to the fact that the front desk isn’t always manned and we should call ahead to make arrangements for check in, however this was inaccurate. There were plenty of staff available at the desk, so no need to do this if anybody receives the same information!

Recommend a stay if you’re passing through Bala!

Thank you for such a lovely stay!

We stayed with our little dog in the hotel for one night as we wanted to visit the lake.

The hotel room was modern, clean and super comfy with a lovely touch of complimentary wine.

The breakfast was delicious and included in the room price, I had grilled kippers with poached egg and my partner had their full English, both were excellent.

The staff were so welcoming, attentive and lovely.

This is the best value for money place you could look for in the area! We will be coming back here.

Just left here. We were shown to our table inside and drink order was taken in a good amount of time. We ordered our food and it came nice and quickly. We weren't once asked if our food was OK but constantly overheard the staff askin who'd been outside n what stage tables outside were upto. We were asked once our food was finished if it was OK. We were asked about desserts but we didn't want one. We finished our drinks and we were walked past a handful of times and not one of the staff asked if we'd like another drink so we decided to ask for the bill and we'd go somewhere else for a drink. We went to pay our bill and the girl was on the phone to another customer as we did a chip and pin payment. We got a thumbs up as she was on the phone as a 'thank you, have a good evening goodbye'. Food was lovely but the service wasn't.we were the only table inside and they seemed to forget about us and were more interested in making sure the tables outside were OK.

On first entering our room we were "wow'd". Our room (#7) was a 2 room suite with 1 bathroom, an ornamental fireplace, armchair and overlooking the main street.
Low windows, beams, nice furniture all contributed to the wow factor.
The bathroom was spacious with a huge walk in shower, plenty of towels, body wash and shampoo provided.
Unfortunately on closer inspection there were little details that had been missed: cobwebs in room corners and on light fittings, dead flies on windowsills, splashes on walls near the coffee station which could have been wiped away, no milk on the coffee station and an empty bottle of body wash in the shower.
We asked at reception for milk and was given an apology and a small jug of milk.
At breakfast the waitress was too busy chatting with the chef and on her mobile to ensure our pre-ordered breakfast was what we expected. No toast for my husband. Another guest got up and left (after an argument with the waitress) after waiting for 10 minutes for a cup of coffee whilst the waitress chatted on her phone.
All that said, we would return. The food both at dinner and breakfast was absolutely delicious and all compliments go to the chef!

The hotel is 3 star at best, needing some updating and cleaning in the bar area especially however we found the bedroom and food very good. Whilst we were there there seemed a shortage of staff with a lady called Sharon having to do everything and had she not been there I'm not sure what the hotel would have done.
Location on the high street which unfortunately meant a lot of noise at night as revellers went home along with boy racers in their cars along the high street.
