Detailed Reviews

Very lovely location with sea views and minutes from the beach. Campsite can get very busy in August but that is true of all this area. Very friendly staff and very helpful.
Negatives is the showers require tokens and not enough of them. The other thing is the distance from the electrical points although in our case the staff lent me an extension cable.
I would certainly recommend

Simply stunning site, the views are to die for. Upon arrival we received the most amazing welcome I've ever had at a campsite. The facilities at the site are immaculate and the owners take great pride. Superb access to the beautiful beach and a restaurant and bar just outside the campsite entrance. Absolutely fantastic, nothing nit to like.

A very clean campsite with direct access to the beautiful beach, but above all a warm welcome and adorable and attentive staff. Many thanks to the team. Perfect for families and hikers alike!
If I reach the end of the GR, it will be partly thanks to you. 😉

We have been going here as a family for nine years - so I suppose it must be pretty good. But it is one of those places - if you like it you'll be likely to return again and again. We see so many faces year after year that we recognise, as well as meeting up with friends that we and the girls have made over the years.
So what's so good about it? Hmm.... Let me think. There's nothing much there! No bar, no pool, no café, no amusements, no regimented rows of pitches, not too many rules and regulations: none of the things we dislike about so many camp sites. That might not appeal to everyone but for us it's ideal. And considering our girls have been going since they were five and seven years old, and still get excited about going each year, it suits them as well.
So what is there? Easy access to a shallow sheltered bay that's perfect for swimming and watersports of all types with a white sand beach, miles of almost empty beaches nearby, terrific walking and cycling, islands to explore, shellfish to harvest (the cockles this year were superb), and once you've pulled razor clams out of the sand by hand and eaten them freshly cooked on the BBQ, you'll be addicted to finding them (although you'll have sore fingers for a few days).
The toilets and showers are very clean, as is the whole site. The cleaning crew seem to be perpetually swabbing out one block or another from six in the morning onwards until quite late in the evening. The staff are friendly and helpful; over the years we've had need of the local doctor and to get spares for the caravan and the information has always been accurate and accompanied by a hand drawn map to assist with directions.
There is a small hall where lunchtime and evening 'animations' are provided (free) by the owners. This might be a course in Breton dancing or cooking, yoga, keep fit, concerts, etc. Friday night is Fest Noz, with local dancers and musicians and Sunday evening sees the Open Scene (open mic night). The standard of musicianship at these beggars belief, given that most of the participants are campers from the site.
There is a small shop that sells essentials just outside the site and every evening a variety of takeaway food is available on site. Further afield there is a small supermarket, a butchers and a bakers a couple of miles away or a larger range of shops and a larger supermarket is about a ten minute drive. There is a local pizzeria and a restaurant (passable but not a favourite of ours) just around the corner, an award winning crêperie a couple of miles away and several seafood restaurants no more than ten minutes drive. There are many viviers in the area, selling superb mussels, shellfish of all sorts, oysters, crabs, lobsters... you name it.
If it rains (and it does tend to once in a while - it's the Atlantic coast) Brest is the closest city, and while it doesn't have much to keep youngsters occupied, there is a good museum and the fantastic Oceanopolis aquarium. Be warned though, this is quite pricey and if it's a very wet day it's likely to be rammed.
If it's a nice day, Brest is still a nice place to visit and you can get there on the No. 20 bus from just outside the camp site for €2 each way for adults €1.50 for under 25s (summer 2014 prices). You can take your bike on certain buses and cycle back from Brest on a well marked route.
Well that's it really. If the above makes you shudder, then it's not for you. But if it sounds up your street, then I would advise booking as the site is often full during high season.
This review might sound as though I work there, but I don't; we just really like it and the life we live while we are there.

This site is on a small peninsular in Finisterre, more or less as far West as you can go in mainland France.
This privately owned site is terraced and overlooks the sea. There are pitches with views, but the wind could (will?) be an issue on these, but there are lovely pitches in more sheltered parts of the site, we chose one of these.
When you arrive you will get a great welcome in French English or German, by the owners, and they will allocate a pitch for you or you can chose one yourself.
Facilities on site are very good, the toilets and showers(token) are clean and well kept.
The owners put on several events while we were there including cookery classes and musical evenings, one was an open mike session and we were treated to Norman hunting songs, some poetry, rock and roll nd finally Irish ballads.
The beaches nearby are really pretty with glittering white sand and rock pools and tidal islands to explore.
If it is too windy on the campsite beach a short walk or very short drive will find you on a more sheltered one.
There are no glitzy tourist traps close by, which suited us just fine, but Oceanopolis in Brest 45 mins by car is well worth an (expensive!) visit.

This is the second year we have been back to Camping des Abers.
We have a pitch right next to the beach.
The site accommodates dogs and there are plenty of walks to go on.
The beach is beautiful and the sunset fantastic.
The staff are very helpful, friendly and available. The facilities are clean.
We will be going back.

The previous English review said it all really, but I'd like to add my thoughts. It's a lovely spot and I don't think anyone could be disappointed. We were there at the very tail-end of August and many pitches had been vacated, so we didn't experience the high season clamour, but it's a great place for kids. Also, our dog loved it!

Stayed for 12 nights in July from 3rd to the 15th, campsite was getting busier as the week went on, in our corner there was four pitches but if they had all be occupied it would have been a tigh squeeze. Make sure you have at least 50 metres of electric cable as the electric points are few and far between. You can borow an extension from reception but if its busy these will be in short supply, you will need an adapter as it is a french socket (two pin).
The staff at reception are really helpful and friendly and nothing is to much trouble, the toilet and shower block are kept spotless but beware if it is busy and someone flushes the loo then the shower goes scalding hot (tokens are available at reception). Take your own toliet roll as you have to take what you need before going to the loo!
The beach is the best bit, there are loads of walks and the tide goes out for miles so there is plenty of space o walk the dog or fly a kite. There is loads and loads of seaweed but you do get used to it after a while and I hate seaweed!
The camp shop is well stocked but get there early for your morning croisent and french stick, open s at 8 till 12 then 4 till 7.
There is an Aldi around 20 mins from camp ask at reception and they will give you a map, this is where the vets is located if you need to visit before you go hope. Pop and and make anappointment as they dont speak very good English and its easier to do hand signals in person.
There are various visiting food vans these are usually on the board near reception as to what is due that evening, There are table tennis for the kids/adults avaible, WIFI is free but useless even if you are standing right next to the aerial. Excellent views across the bay and perfect if you like watersports. We had a good holiday but wouldn't like to be there during August as it would be too busy and cramped.
