We have stayed in many establishments in the UK and never had cause to complain but we feel it necessary to warn others in this instance. At a county show, we were approached by an agent from the Porsonachan hotel who persuaded us to take up an offer of a 3 night B&B stay. On arrival we were assigned to the coach house adjacent to the hotel. Whilst we didn’t have a problem with that, we did spend a most uncomfortable 3 nights due to a faulty skylight in the bedroom which allowed an infestation of midges. We didn’t discover this until the second night after my partner was covered in bites. We reported this to the hotel and asked them to fix the skylight (as we couldn’t shut it) and also to fumigate the room to get rid of the midges still present. Understandably they asked us to stay out for the majority of the day whilst they dealt with the problem. We returned later that evening to find the window had indeed been fixed but the midges were still present as my partner suffered midge bites yet again that night. In addition to this problem, the room was uncomfortably warm, even though a fan was provided and the temperature outside was quite cool. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and the whole place was obviously in need of some TLC. The only thing going for this establishment is it’s location. However, it’s not enough and we will never stay there again,.

Dear Tracy, thank you for your comments and glad to hear that you enjoyed the location. It does take a knack to open and close the skylight and we will be putting instructions in the room to explain this. Unfortunately, due to us being in the Scottish Highlands, located on South Loch Awe amidst over 100 acres of natural woodland, we cannot do anything about the midges especially when it is very warm as it has been this year. We try and fumigate but this only helps for the short term. All individual rooms have radiators in that can be controlled by our guests so that they can regulate the temperature in the individual rooms to ensure each individual guest is comfortable during their stay With regard to your mattress, we do have standard Silent Night mattresses with protectors, however, we do have in stock different mattresses and memory foam toppers so we could have provided you with an alternative if you were uncomfortable. I am sorry you will not be returning to Portsonachan as we do want all our guests to enjoy their stay with us. Kind regards

Hotel's Favourite
We have just had 4 nights in a very spacious, comfortable and warm 1 bedroom lodge with a view over the loch and to the snowy mountains. The area is stunning. The hotel conservatory serves an excellent standard of food, and very good coffee. The staff are so helpful and welcoming. Loads to do in the area if being overwhelmed by the Magnificence of the scenery isn’t enough. Can’t wait to go and stay again.

Saying it was like Fawlty Towers is doing Basil Fawlty a disservice ! Bedroom not big enough to swing a cat in. Bathroom plumbing was downright dangerous. Wiring to light in public room downstairs was hanging from a screwdriver stuck into a rafter. Only good things came out of the kitchen in the evening. Don't expect a full cooked breakfast to make up for your night, you won't get one ! Had booked for 4 nights, but abandoned the place after 2 nights as the hotel was unable to relocate us. (lost money as it had been pre-paid).

Stayed for 4 nites most impressed at the situation of the hotel and outstanding views definitely has a Scottish charm about it. I had a very friendly welcome and shown to my accommodation, I asked for a room with a view and I got it wow. My room was clean I am particular where I stay, I couldn’t fault the cleanliness throughout the hotel.sheets and bedding were fresh and crisp and the bed very comfortable. Food was great and I thought a good menu to choose from catering for most tastes. The service was friendly and professional and the bar was well stocked!! There certainly was plenty to do,take a boat from the hotel and explore the loch or try some fishing. The staff that I delt with during my stay were most attentive and approachable. A lovely hotel in a lovely part of Scotland. Will be returning

Having just spent the weekend for my husband’s 60th birthday in Lodge Stirling I was appalled at the state of the place. The lodge had not been cleaned from previous occupants, bird poo all over decking and chairs outside, barbecue wasn’t cleaned, no cushions for chairs outside. Had to phone reception for cleaners and for other things to be rectified on several occasions and had to wait forever to get things done. The lodge was supposed to have been Covid cleaned what a joke!!! The staff didn’t seem bothered when we complained. I spent hundreds of pounds for this break and was disappointed as it was a special birthday. Won’t be returning!!!!!

HI, thank you for your comments and I would confirm that all our accommodation follows all the Covid-19 guidelines and are properly cleaned. We have the "good to go" and also are inspected on a regular basis. The BBQ should have been cleaned and I have spoken to Housekeeping about this so thank you for pointing it out. We can provide outside cushions on request but do not have them on the furniture because of our outdoor wildlife. However, we cannot continually clean up the bird poo and the outside areas as the lodges are rural and in the wilderness. For example, we have swallows nests on the outside of our lodges and, as they are a protected species, there will be bird poo on the verandas as it is illegal to remove these nests. Perhaps we might think of supplying outside mops and buckets for guests staying in our lodges. We apologise for any delays that occurred with your requests and always address issues as quickly as we can as our maintenance and housekeeping are on site. Perhaps you can contact us directly via email at the hotel should you have any further issues and we can reply to you personally. We are sorry you won't be returning as this is not our intention at all.
