Nice hotel near the river and shops in Rothbury. All the staff were very pleasant and the food was lovely with big portions. The only thing was not being informed about breakfast times which we found out over hearing another guest asking.

We learnt, when we found a member of staff, that they had taken over this hotel in August and it's interesting to note that the vast majority of low scoring reviews are from before this period. However some points just keep cropping up.....like the unstaffed reception - Coquetvale get yourselves a bell - it would be so much better than... More

Very good hotel, rooms clean and tidy, food in the restaurant was to an excellent standard. Service was very friendly and to a high standard. Would happily stay there again. Good base for exploring Northumberland.

As last minute decision we tried this restaurant. .We were surprised there were no other diners in. However we weren't disappointed with the quality of food although there was no creamed cabbage as described on the menu. This was a decision maker. The veg on every meal seemed to be the same?

Many thanks for your honest feedback. Really pleased that you enjoyed your impromptu Sunday lunch and I do note your comments regards selection of vegetables - will revisit this with Chef. We do tend to get busier later on a Sunday, encouraged by the fact that we continue serving our "Sunday lunch " until mid evening. Hope that we may... More

Returned to the Coquetvale for a two night stay. Once again the whole visit was great, since we visited earlier this year the hotel has had all the windows replaced, a good improvement. Our room was very large and very comfy, as we had our dog with us the extra space was an asset. The new owners said they had... More

We stayed here whilst visiting nearby Cragside - an outstanding National Trust estate. This hotel has improved under its new management, and the finishing touches to the bedrooms is calm, relaxing and beautiful. We stayed in room 1 and had a wonderful time. The evening meal was excellent with a wide variety of options to suit everyone. Breakfast was lovely... More

Top quality room in a superb hotel. Polite, attentive staff. Fantastic food and service in the restaurant, both the evening meal and the breakfast were excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend both hotel and restaurant. Five stars in my book.

I will start with the positives which have the review an 'average' rating rather than 'poor' - Staff (when you can find them) seem pleasant. - COOKED breakfast was pretty good. - Bed was very comfortable. - Very large TV - Excellent Shower, hot... Fabulous country hotel, whilst we stayed only one night as part of a birthday celebration, we were given a superb recently re-furbished room, all of the staff were attentive, helpful and polite. The meal in the restaurant was top top quality. Would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.
