Our family loved our stay at Cabanas Punta Placer! Right from the start they impressed us with organising our transport from P. Escondió and with Olympia’s warm welcome. We stayed in the Family Cabana which was just amazing. We thought there would be no view but there are beautiful glimpses, including both the shower and the upstairs bedroom overlooking the beach. Huge king size bed downstairs and plenty of space for luggage.
We literally woke up every morning and headed straight down to the beach for a swim, came back up for breakfast at the hotel or one of the amazing restaurants along this strip, had a nap and then woke up to do it all again! The perfect holiday!
The restaurant staff are lovely- sorry, I have no names. The gentleman in black who looked after us mostly was so friendly and efficient.
A huge thank you to Jaime who not only came up very early and without asking to take our bags to a taxi but also assisted us in an emergency with our passports. Will never be forgotten!
Highly recommend this hotel and San Agustinillo in general!

Note: Old reviews tell of opposite experiences from NOW. These extraordinary cabanas are architectural gems. Simple, stylish, every detail interesting. The service was impeccable ( most especially Marianna, the day manager who directed us to restaurants we would have never found, places to find important needs, local color shops and fun spots, +++). We stayed two extra nights and will go back. Great beds with dramatic mosquito nets, large natural stone showers, gorgeous colors. Heavenly beach/surf views from private patio lounge chairs -- steps from the sand. Elegant landscaping. Even fine wine!

These bungalows remind me of ‘glamping’ on the beach! It is like camping on the beach but with comfortable beds! Such comfortable accommodations with the constant sound of the waves. Very clean space with large bathroom and shower. You hardly notice the salt water showers. I just hope they can bounce back after the hurricane. If you love nature and need a break from the hustle and bustle this is the place for you. The internet works fine in the restaurant that serves the best coffee in town! Or just grab your book, grab a lounge chair on the beach and forget about work!

In March 2022 we were allowed to stay in a beautiful cabana for a week. Right on the beach. Beautiful view. Friendly staff and delicious breakfast or lunch for a reasonable price. Recommended. We will be back next time.

The location and the views are heavenly, the bungalows are clean & safe, and the property is run by the kindest and friendliest people. I cannot say enough good things about the owners and their staff. Everyone was so warm and helpful; it made this place my top choice for where to stay in the town.

We just got back from two weeks in San Agustinillo. There is a lot of better places to stay that are not on the internet. We got there January 1st (really buisy time of the year) and we found a lot a of different options to stay for more then half of the price of this guys place or the other french's Un Sueno. We had no reservation and i dont think you need to have one to stay in the village. This guy is unbeleivabe and i promised myself two things when i was there...1. Never give this guy a single peso and 2. Write a review to tell everyone what an axxhole this guy is. Im french and he wasnt nicer to me or anyone i know that was there. I watched him teach surf on the beach to two guys and a girl. I would have gotten my money back if i was the guys. He stayed the hole time with the girl and he was throwing a thumbs up to the guys once in a while. Just rent the board never mind his course.
San Agustinillio is a great spot and there is a lot of cabanas to rent that are not on the net. Just go there anytime and you'll find a nice spot to stay by asking anyone on the street or by watching fo signs. Ask for Gabino's and Rachel's casa. They have two nice rooms for 300 pesos a night. They are a nice little familly that lives on the hill. I prefer the side of the hill then the beach because all of the cabanas are aso close to the road. We loved our stay in the mountain and the 1 minute walk to the town or the beach in the mountain.
Its not a party town like zipolite can be, its more familial but we loved it even if we dont have kids. Mazunte has also a lot of cabanas to rent...Dont 1000 pesos a night they dont have anything more then the other that are asking 300.
Enjoy your stay, tell Gabino and Rachel that Luiz and Helen say hi! Dont worry about having a reservation because the best spots dont even have a phone nevermind the net. Just ask anyone on the street...Also try to find Sorocco's restaurant...She is a well respected woman in town and she makes the best food...her pina coladas are also the best of the beach by far. Dont expect to get them fast thought, and that goes for every restaurant or bar. Tell them you want your drinks first cause they tend to bring everything at the same time.

I went a couple of months ago with my boyfriend and was treated disrespectfully to the point that it affected the experience. The owners will shake you down for the full balance days before you even leave, and oh yeah -- they require cash payment and don't tell you this until they shake you down. If you don't have the cash on you, they will hound you for the money every time they see you, and come to your door looking for the money. Meanwhile, the only ATM is a half hour cab ride away. The male owner said nothing to us except "where is the money?". No "hello", no "thanks for coming". It's clear they only care about the money.

The town and all of the people are incredible and top notch in San Agustinillo. With the exception of David the surfing dude owner of this place. He is obnoxious. He has issues with english speaking people so if people matter to you, don't go here just because of how he treats 'some' people. He's very friendly when they are European and especially French. If you don't fall into those categories, don't even bother saying hello to the guy as he looks right through you and beyond. Don't get me wrong...I'm on holidays and don't need to be friends with the owner, but it's a small place with warm weather and a cold person breezing by....

My mother taught me that "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." But, I can't help myself after our experiences at Punta Placer. I will praise the latte in a great big mug. Of course, on the beach with the amazing Pacific, its hard to really go wrong. But, for the price and comparing our other experiences of hospitality while traveling in Oaxaca City and Puerto Angel, the overall vibe of the hotel staff gets a thumbs down. There was a confusion with the reservation. Once it was realized that 7 people wouldn't actually fit in one room, we were correctly put in the family bungalow. The bathroom was cool and the floors were tastefully painted. The kids loved it. The adults thought it seemed a bit dingy. Great to see that a kitchenette was available. Coffee maker, fridge and hot pot. These would have really come in handy if they had also supplied pots/pans, utensils or plates. A traveler doesn't often have a frying pan in their duffle bag. The fridge was a treat. The printed material said if we need ice, just ask. Well, we did...time and time again. As each time, the help gave us about 2.5 ice cubes. With 7 people, it doesn't go far. Some of the workers didn't seem to understand Spanish or English. In our opinion, we were given incredulous looks for asking for things like towels to accommodate our party. Or heavens, needing more than one roll of toilet paper for 7 guests. We actually had to go to the supply closet ourselves to get more. But don't attempt taking more than one roll, or you'll get the stink eye. After asking, we were even given another bed to actually accommodate the 7 of us. As for our interaction with the owner, Claire... She only asked us when we would be leaving, as they needed to clean the rooms. This was two hours prior to check out.
Our experience at Punta Placer really just made us appreciate all of the warm interactions we had with Mexican owned and operated places on the coast and in the city. I hope this review helps the owners and operators of Punta Placer realize, that its more than the pesos in your pocket. What makes a place truly 5 star, is the positive and genuine interactions with people. That is what makes a person want to return and/or refer your place to someone else. We don't want to return to Punta Placer."

Hotel Punta Placer is great for its location, it's right on the beach. The staff (Manon and Oscar) is very welcoming and helpful. The rooms are cozy and well-designed. However a few things worth noting: the sofa bed barely fits a child, there is a lot of noise due street traffic, and most concerning is the fact that right next door to the hotel is a shark finning operation. Ugh, so much for being an "ecological" village.
