We have not stayed in the Halliburton area before mostly Huntsville area so we loved this Older hotel with soft beds and great pillows. We had one of the rooms at the front facing the road and during the day there is a lot of traffic for small town ( we left our windows open) but at night very quite. We walked to most restaurants in the area and along the river and it is very peaceful. They have several options to eat or just have a drink some outside and some inside with big garage doors that open so its like being outside. Everyone we dealt with was very nice. We will stay again if we have the chance.

Stopped here on a trip from Ottawa to Collingwood, with many stops in between. Check in was simple at the bar. When we got into the room it was chilly but warmed up sufficiently once we went for a walk in town. Had dinner in the restaurant downstairs which was more than sufficient. The waitress was great. Back to the room, it was large, well appointed and very clean. Thanks for a great stay.

I stayed at the Dominion when my friends were celebrating their 40th Anniversary. The staff at the hotel are wonderful. They treat you like you're a guest in their home. The room that I stayed in was beautifully decorated and had a very comfy bed. Their pub serves great food and the music was good when I stayed there. A tip of my hat to Sean and Ellie the innkeepers. Don't change a thing, I'm definitely coming back!

I ordered a Hot Roast beef sandwich. It looked good and the fries were nice and crispy, but overly salted. The sandwich was a mix of cold, luke warm and warm beef. I ate a quarter of it which was warm, but it soon became clear most of the beef was cold. I told the waitress it was cold , so she replied she would bring a take out container and said I could bring it home and nuk it. Wow! I did just that and fed it to the dog. The waitress was friendly and I guess we could say helpful lol, but I certainly will never go back even though the have a lovely covered patio.

Booked two nights at the hotel, after reading reviews. But had to leave after one night the room had a bad smell that wouldn't go away with the window open all night and the ceiling fan running. Very disappointing, asked to be moved but there was no other rooms available so we left.

We visited for a couple of day this fall and liked the hotel very much. The owners have obviously invested quite a bit in modernizing the hotel while keeping its country charm. All of the rooms have deep soaker tubs and unbelievable comfortable mattresses. It was also very clean and when we had a small problem they took care of it immediately. It was a real treat. It is a historic hotel and some of the rooms are a little small. The double bed room was one of these. I don't think I would choose this one. A couple of suggestions that I have would be to add hooks on the wall. If you visit in fall or winter there is no closet and so no place to hang your winter coats. Also if you had clothes that needed to be hung there is no place for this. A couple of hooks would do the trick. Also if you were going out for the evening you would probably appreciate a full length mirror that is also missing. We didn't need this but it was a thought. They have flat screen TV's with built in DVD players and even have DVD's on hand that you can use.
A very nice place to spend a couple of days in the Haliburton area.

In the quaint town of Minden, Ont., nestled in the main street among the many merchants, is a wonderful gem of a place...the Dominion HotelPub!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night(weekend) stay. There are 6 rooms, all cozy, clean and modern with a flair of country charm. Our lovely room had a very nice view of the Gull River. For your casual dining experience you can opt for a quiet, relaxed atmosphere in the separate dining area. Or a more lively setting in the Pub/Patio, sports on the big screen - a variety of live music at select times/days. It was a pleasure to see the Ring of Fire : A Johnny Cash Experience. Fantastic! I was really impressed by the owner, who on several occasions, made the rounds sitting and chatting with locals, welcoming folks staying for a short while or just passing through. Thank you Dominion HotelPub for a lovely time! Looking forward to coming back in the fall ♡

Had the opportunity to return to Minden for more curling, so we opted again for the Dominion. Poor experience this time. Very poor choice.

They have a couple of rooms that are characterized as family rooms. In fact, when I was at the Dominion in March, I checked one of them out and I was impressed. So, when I knew we'd be visiting Minden again, I knew this option should work really well. We booked the room that I'd seen when I was there last.

Somewhere along the line, however, we got shuffled to another room.

When we arrived, they stuck us in a very different family room... not the one we had requested and that we thought we had reserved. The one they put us in didn't have the microwave I had seen on my previous trip and that I was expecting. Also, it needed an additional cot, because we were 5 people. It had no cot when we arrived, so we asked for one in the tavern that occupies the main floor. They said they would send one up.

At 10:30pm, someone showed up with a broken folding lawn-chair. Honestly. A broken folding-lawn chair. When we complained that this wouldn't work, the cook and one of the patrons from the tavern showed up to review the situation. One look and the patron exclaimed, "it's busted." The cook didn't argue with him. (What kind of management sends a patron with a staff member to sort out a customer's issue?)

So, we removed the 1-inch thick foam pad from this sad excuse for a bed and one of us slept on this on the floor. Oh! And they charged a premium for the cot!

On top of this, only one of two sinks in the room worked in any respect. Unfortunately it was not the one in the bathroom. From the operational sink flowed water that my daughter described as "the colour of weak coffee." We brushed our teeth at the curling club.

Did we express our concerns? Yes.
Was our subsequent call to management returned? No.
Will we ever return? I think not.

I am a single 45 year old woman who pulled up to Minden on Business and had limited choices for hotels/ motels other than ski resorts that were out to the area and out of budget. I pulled up to the curb very apprehensive about what I was about to do. I went into the restaurant and asked the restaurant attendee "Michelle" if I could get a room for the night and she was just as charming as you could possible imagine. I paid for the room, very skeptical, as I didn't have much choices and then she showed me to my room. Although there was no security lock on the inside of my motel room from the inside, it was the most charming room I have seen. Very nicely decorated. From the beautiful laminant floors to the stylish chairs, the charming tiles on the bathroom walls, the beautifully decorated bed and bedspread, the artwork on the walls and the area rug and quaint country window coverings, I felt like a princess. The room was a little cold but Michelle told me that each room has its own baseboard heater that I can set to my desired temperature. I turned it all the way up as the room was a might chilly. It was close to 5:00 PM when I checked in and therefore thought I should get something to eat. As there was not much in the way of restaurants in town and each seemed to be comparable to one another, I decided that I woud just stay there and have dinner... besides... it smelled delicious... so after changing out of my suit, I went downstairs and went for supper. The cook was another charmer who made my Haddock and fries dinner, even though they said that their specialty was hamburgers. It was delicious and fast. The staff was extremely accomodating to me and allowed me to bring my laptop into the dining room to continue my work while I dined and I worked while I ate. This wasn't necessarily a motel style environment but a bed and breakfast type of feel... I will come to the Dominion Hotel any time I am in the area... whether I'm on business or with my family... What a great bunch of people and great environment. Beautiful stay... people were very friendly and courteous, as well as accomodating. What a family feel to it. I ended up working until the restaurant closed at 8:00 PM and then retired up to my room and continued my work.... Real Five Star restaurant, hotel experience with a bed and breakfast feel and A Class people.

I'm so happy that we chose to stay at the Dominion Hotel for our weekend stay in the area. I cannot say enough great things about the hotel and the people who work there. There room was incredibly comfortable and clean. We stayed in the family room, which was the only one available when we booked. Although we didn't make use of the bunk beds I can say the rest of the room provided everything we needed. There was lots of room to move around and the mattress was one of the best I've ever slept on. The bathroom is on the smaller side but that was not a problem. The towels made me feel like I was at home.
The people who work in the hotel and pub downstairs add to the positive experience we had. We arrived for dinner after the dinner closed and instead of telling us we were out of luck, the owners and staff went out of their way to accommodate us. The owners chatted with us and if we weren't already convinced we were returning for another visit, they solidified that decision. The young lady working at the bar was extremely pleasant and ensured we had everything we needed as patrons of the bar and hotel guests. The food at the pub was excellent. We highly recommend the burgers and are looking forward to trying the rest of the items on the menu.
The housekeeper took us on a tour of the other available rooms (thank you for the hospitality!), we're looking forward to staying in the King Suite on our next visit.
This is a great place to stay while visiting the Haliburton area. The history and charm add to the area. I'm looking forward to going back in the Fall.
