Family run by Mom Brunhilda Dad Dronaldo (one of the first guides in El Castillo) and daughters. All very warm and friendly. Nice wood tone walls surround all areas in the rooms and common areas. Construction of additional rooms appears ready to continue but all still during our stay. Water pressure can be spotty but hardly worth a worry and...

This is a lovely place to stay. El Castillo is a wonderful place, and this is a very easy way to enjoy it. A minute's walk from where the boat docks, it's a simple wooden lodge, clean and tidy with a great balcony to hang out on - so the small individual rooms we stayed in weren't an issue. I...

Our third visit to El Castillo and our third stay at Nena Lodge. We got the front room with attached bath. Love the balcony and the view. Nena and the family are kind and generous with their advice and assistance. A good choice.

I've stayed here every year since my 2011 review, They've recently been building out the lodge, doing the work themselves and it looks great, Too there are new linens and bedding. A new cleaning girl keeps the rooms spotless. They prepared me excellent breakfasts of backyard eggs, platano, cheese and beans. I love staying there, especially in the low season...

Nena lodge is at the left side of the village of El Castillo if you arrive at the boatlanding. We found it to basic compared to the rate ( $25). We had a basic room with no legspace for the backpacks. Normaly we put them on the ground but there were a lot of ants. The bathroom was also very...

On our second visit to El Castillo we again chose Nena Lodge. Nena is so sweet and very accommodating. We took the same two rooms, with private baths as before, upstairs on the right. With a window that fronts the expansive balcony the location offers a nice view of the street below and the river across the street. Such a...

I expected to land in the middle of a bug-zoo after I took notice of where we actually were in Nicaragua. Don't know how it is in other hostels around El Castillo, but Nena (completely made out of wood and currently being expanded) managed to deliver a completely bug-free, clean and hospitable accommodation. If visiting el Castillo again, I wouldn't...

Right in the middle of town the rooms are cosy wooden units: our bathroom however did need some paint and a few tiles replacing. Nice terrace although local kids letting off fire-crackers can destroy the peace! Next door at the tour office Sella speaks excellent English and can organise pretty much whatever you need. Left our bags here when we...

Myself and two friends by luck of the the draw were privileged to get Seyla Obergón as our guide. Seyla is a fluent English speaker who is extremely knowledgable of the history plus flora and fauna in the area. She showed us El Castillo and la Reserva Biológica Indio-Maíz. Seyla also accompanied us to the Solentiname Islands and El Refugio de...
