The Oakeley Arms Hotel has been praised for its cleanliness, with guests appreciating the newly refurbished rooms and commendable housekeeping. While opinions on the hotel's value fluctuate, many find it reasonable, though some critique it for not meeting their expectations. Comfortable accommodations and a variety of dining experiences are among the amenities favored by guests, despite some suggestions for enhancement. Service quality appears inconsistent, as experiences range from commendable to lackluster, with occasional mentions of poor management. Rooms are generally spacious and cozy, albeit not the most contemporary, and the hotel's atmosphere is often described as welcoming, with enjoyable entertainment options.

I ate at The Oakley Arms on three evening in a row during late August 2020. On each occasion, the experience was a delight. The staff were, without exception very friendly - not just to me, but to everyone who came in - and went above and beyond in finding tables and meeting requests. It was extremely busy, but the staff were very well-organised and nothing seemed to throw them (even a family of eight turning up without booking). It isn't a gastro pub (I'm glad to say), but the food is good and there's a decent selection of drinks. On top of that, it's in a beautiful location. I've visited this area at least once a year for the past 45 years, but only recently "discovered" The Oakley Arms; it's now my favourite place to eat (and drink) in north west Wales.

I stayed here from October 2nd for 4 nights with a colleague Mountain Leader as together we were guiding a group of women participants in the adjacent mountains.

We’d booked a small self-catering cottage but were very pleased to be upgraded to the much larger cottage: MOELWYN.

MOELWYN allowed us to each enjoy a king size room which were comfortable and well appointed. Additionally there was a twin room which we didn’t use.

The kitchen/diner was spacious and well equipped but several lights were missing. These were renewed by the handyman. There was also a very large tv beyond the dining table.

A very large lounge was also comfortable and well equipped, again with a very large tv over the fireplace.

None of the three bedrooms were en-suite and downstairs was a combined toilet/shower unit with a heated towel rail and large sink. The shower valve was difficult to shut off.

The kitchen cupboards lacked left behind items such as spices, oil etc which are normally found in such properties.

Recycling seemed to be non-existent so we brought everything home which was unsatisfactory in my opinion.

Fabulous accommodation so I can highly recommend this cottage.

We called here for lunch on the recommendation of a local, we have a caravan in the area so are in this area a lot but have never tried the Oakley Arms even though we drive past it so much. So glad we finally gave it a try. All the food was homemade and very tasty. The gravy that came with the kids sausages was so good, "real" gravy. Homemade meatballs and pasta was also nice. I had gammon and my husband had the burger, all 4 meals really well presented and great big portions. Staff were friendly and attentive. Couldn't ask for more. Covid measures in place seemed really clear, everywhere spotless including the toilets.

Would love to try Sunday lunch!

We were a group of 14 adults and teens and whilst a few of the staff were pleasant enough, some of the other staff were so rude we would have walked out if there was anywhere else to go. They either did not want us there or have no idea of customer service. Either way, the food and relatively high prices don't make up for being treated as if you're putting someone out by asking for a clean glass. A couple of the meals were tasty e.g. ribs and lamb but overall such a pity as the building and location should make for a great restaurant but we sensed they didn't want us / tourists there that much!

We ordered a pizza from the stone baked pizza section from the menu and was disappointed with it only being a 9inch size with little meat on it for the price of the pizza. Secondly although advertised as stone baked pizza it was simply not and to be honest tasted more like a supermarket pizza.
We are not ones to complain but furthermore from this they were not willing to take any money off from our meal despite the poor pizza which did not match the menu.
Would not recommend this place for pizzas!

irstly, there seems to be a complete lack of eateries open in Wales on a Sunday evening (seeing as its August, the summer holidays and everyone is “staycationing”…)

Hence our stop here. They were packed. We were offered the only table in the small bar area that was available- take it or leave it. Service slow. No one appears to be in charge and the average age of staff is about 12 yrs old. When you do finally get served, no actually, we had to take ourselves off to the bar to get served, you’ll then wait an hour for what you’ve ordered. That is, after you’ve ordered off the Specials Board, be charged, be told after half an hour the kitchen haven’t got it, not be refunded the difference and be served someone else’s dinner, that will sit on your table for 10 minutes (served by the teenager with a face like a slapped ……). When you point out it’s not your food, she’ll give you a look that I can only describe as “why don’t you wither and die”. After the staff realise after 10 minutes of it sitting on our table, all breathing on it, that it is in fact not our order, they’ll promptly deliver it to the correct table, to the poor chap waiting for it (erm, great hygiene compliance during these crazy, covid times!). Your food will probably turn up once your drinks have been emptied an you’ve chewed your own arm off in hunger and frustration. Then they’ll have dishes you up inedible, frozen chips. So, all in all, £14 for a single burger, lettuce leaf and a thimble of coleslaw you’ll leave crying and looking for the nearest Spa shop for a Mars Bar. I’m on holiday, my kids said I wasn’t allowed to complain because I’d come across too “Karen”. I hereby vent my anger on the way back to my hotel, almost £70 poorer…

Went having seen some positive reviews and looks lovely when driving past. We pre booked.
Ordered halloumi for starters which had a side salad which was dry and clearly been left out. Did not enjoy the starter which seemed to be cold halloumi on top of hot peppers and onions, not what I was expecting but could have been personal taste.
We had been seated by the bar and there has been a sign on each table saying to order use the app from your table or order at the bar.
No one was using the app and we had 4 people queuing at the bar right next to us. None were practising social distancing and we felt vulnerable. We asked to be moved which we were.
Mains arrived, the sharing platter was ok as were the childs sausage. The pasta dish was bland and had hoped for something more flavour some.
Was glad to leave. Having been out a few times recently and always leaving great reviews for covid measures, this was first time we felt things could be improved.

For tldr read last paragraph.

To start other than one of the waiters the service was poor, possibly some of the worst I've had in all honesty.
I'm not sure if some of the staff were new but there was only one guy that was friendly and polite the others were very blunt verging on rude.

Meal wise, they brought out the wrong starter for me then just brought back my partners which was kind of odd since hers was cold by the time I got mine.

For the mains I ordered lamb which was okay but kind of dry and very gamey tasted a bit closer to mutton and she had the burger which for the price was truly awful, I assume it was beef but it tasted like very cheap meat with a similar texture to corned beef and to top it off some of the chips weren't fully cooked either.

When someone came to take our plates they just asked if they could take them away and not if anything was wrong when they hadn't really been touched I think my partner had literally had one bite of the burger and a few chips, this is when I complained about the food but it was about another 10 minutes before the only decent waiter came to ask about it.

So overall I can't say I'd ever go again, the food was poor and over priced and other than one waiter the other staff were verging on rude. They also asked you to pay before you eat the food which should of been a bit of a red flag.
They did at least refund our mains though so there's that.

Myself and my girlfriend visited the Oakley Arms Hotel twice during a week long stay in Wales.

The first visit was for a Sunday carvery which was amazing. Couldn’t fault the food. It is also dog friendly in the bar which was good for our Sprocker.

Due to how good the carvery was we went back on our last night for dinner, what a disappointment!! Both meals were like microwaves meals / plane food. I had the nut roast and my girlfriend had fish and chips, both very disappointing and certainly not worth 45 pounds.

The majority of the staff weren’t friendly or accommodating, apart from a young lad called Shaun who was absolutely amazing. He couldn’t do enough for us and seemed to be the only one running around the pub running things.

We ordered takeaway desserts which were apparently taken to the wrong table and therefore just left on the side as we waited for around 20 minutes. The only person who checked on us and sorted this out was Shaun.

Overall very disappointing and not worth the money we spent. The only good thing about it was Shaun!

Sadly disappointed in the experience here as based on the website I was expecting a county pub with a well stocked bar containing a range of local rail ales and freshly prepared, locally produced food options.

The food was OK, it was definitely not selected to showcase what was in season and use local produce, it was very similar to a average big chain pub. Burger was grey, all meals served with the same undressed salad of a lettuce leaf, a cherry tomato and cucumber batton.

Very sadly there were no real ales available, due to the location I would have thought, like many other places, they would have some beers from the local breweries, in a bottle would suffice! So I asked for a bitter….sold out.

The overall ambiance was lacking but the staff were very nice, I won’t be returning for food but maybe a cold lager on a sunny day due to the large beer garden, although I didn’t head out there personally.

Hello, we have a few options and are able to adapt some dishes to suit. Hunters chicken - we use gluten free seasoning & sauce. Woodland chicken - we use cornflour Farmers lamb with gluten free gravy The Gammon, Steak ( less the pepper sauce) . Smoked Salmon is fine less the sauce. We have gluten free pasta so can adapt the pasta dish. We have a gluten free fudge cake and the eton mess . There is more on the menu and we can advise on arrival. Please ask to speak with chef . Hope this has helped . Kind regards Ann
