Terrific place to stay, Mary and Graham are so wonderfully welcoming, accommodating and knowledgeable. Room and bathroom spacious, super clean and THE most comfortable beds. We slept like logs. Breakfast - superb.

Mary and Graham made us feel at home and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice. Our little morning chats about things to do and see even though we were there for a very short time. Very clean and tidy room with en suite. This little jewel is a must when visiting Barra. Thanks to you both.

We can wholeheartedly echo Eric's comments. We stayed at Northbay House the same few days. Breakfasts are a sociable affair with Mary in charge in the kitchen and Graham on duty front of house. The effort they've put in to creating such a great place is impressive - the really clever thing is that they make it all feel so...

I'm a shameful character who hesitates to write a review in case everybody wants to book Northbay House, leaving me no room for a much-yearned return visit - but I can't. It's a struggle to find enough superlatives so my comments lack the eloquence of others but I'll try my best: I was a solo traveller wanting little more than...

I stayed three nights here for B & B while travelling on my own at the beginning of June. The accommodation was tastefully furnished and beautifully presented, but best of all was the warm and friendly welcome from the hosts, Mary and Graham. They went out of their way to make me feel at home, and the breakfasts were excellent...

Had a 3 day break with friends. Location was beautiful and very peaceful. Breakfasts were amazing, and a real treat to come back to home baking. Spotless accommodate and nothing to much bother. I've stayed in other accommodation in Barra and this was by far the best.

We had a lovely couple of nights here when visiting the Outer Hebrides. Great accommodation and extremely helpful and friendly hosts. Hope to return to this great B & B on beautiful Barra. Local restaurants closed in October but still a choice of 2 places to eat.

I visited for two days with a friend who is a wheelchair user, and she had no problems with the access. The owners were fabulous, sociable and caring, and provided superb breakfasts. There is little to complain about other than poor internet access but for a two day break one can live without it. I like the football on TV...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Northbay House is a sympathetic conversion of the former Victorian school at Morgan. Situated at the head of Loch na h-Obbe, this is a quiet and sheltered location from which to explore the beautiful Island of Barra. Visitors are welcome to sit in the mature gardens, overlooking the loch or when the weather is wild, relax in the cosy lounge with a selection of books and magazines. The ground floor en-suite twin room is suitable for wheelchair users, with a large, wet-room style bathroom and level access to the breakfast room, but not the upstairs lounge. The first floor, en-suite double room retains the original window design, at floor level. All rooms have generous hospitality trays and there is a wide choice for breakfast. Home baking is offered either in the afternoon or at suppertime. Free WiFi is available 24 hours although the signal varies in bad weather! The local bus passes the end of the drive and we are within 10 minutes walk of the Heathbank Hotel which serves excellent meals. ... more   less
