This is a beautifully designed auberge with very “coolly” decorated rooms, and fantastic food, all set in a very pretty hill-side village. Dinner involved a sharing menu for two people served on the terrace overlooking the quiet village centre. We enjoyed a spectacular gazpacho, very tenderly cooked lamb and a delicious chocolate fondant. Breakfast the following morning was just as good with a great range of patisserie, home made jam, yogurt and fruit.

Despite its position on the Main Street there is no serious traffic and you can park your car close by. This is a proper auberge with a lovely outside eating and drinking area plus a comfortable dining room. The bedrooms are well proportioned and modernised. Gabriel, the manager seemed to do almost everything including carrying up the suitcases, running the front desk and serving at dinner! An amazing feat as we never had to wait. The food was outstanding and extremely original. The bedroom v comfortable. Perhaps the pool could benefit from some heating but otherwise an exceptional experience. We will return!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 months. It was wonderful. We had lovely breakfast and dinner. The decor was so original and the room was incredibly comfortable- it even had air conditioning. We were some of the only tourists from America that were in town but everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We visited a few wineries and overall enjoyed our time here very much.

We discovered this hotel when we were in the Macon area buying some wine. It rates two stars in the Michelin Guide and I am not sure that I would rate it that high. Our room was large and well set out with the bath and two wash hand basins in the open space of the whole area. The shower and lavatory were neatly closed in. Clean and very well designed though there are never enough places where you can put your sponge bag, electric toothbrush and anything else that you need when using the basins.

Our dinner is hard to describe. My partner thought that it was superb and would return tomorrow but, alas for me it was not a success, and I hasten to add that this was because I do not like spicy food. Perfect and highly imaginative cooking, delicious large and modestly priced glasses of champagne and an impressive wine list.
An impressive choice of fruit, bread and cakes for breakfast.
Exemplary service and the final bill was not at all unreasonable.

This small hotel is a lesson in style over substance, it aspires to be something greater than it is. Without question the food in the resturant is excellent, however the standard of service in the hotel was poor, which is a great pity as it has so much potential. The rooms are large, clean and spacious but a little pretentious and cluttered. Sadly we found the service we recieved from Valerie to be cold, inflexible and hostile. Our stay was expensive and we expect a far higher standard of customer care at this level of pricing. Of note the pool is not heated so don't expect to use it outside of summer ( this is not mentioned on the website), the jacuzzi was luke warm at best and there is only one menu for breakfast at one price so make sure you leave time for it as 21 euros is extortionate if you only have time for a croissant and a coffee (breakfast is served from 8.30 and is more of a brunch). They are child tolerant rather than child friendly so don't take the kids, this is definately a hotel more suited to couples, the food is totally unsuitable for little people!

This hotel lives up to its name! Set in the beautiful wine-growing hills just south-west of Macon, this auberge is to be found in the village of St. Amour (an equally romantic name). The patron, Cyril, and his wife run a beautiful, stylish and very comfortable hotel. We only had breakfast, but if that is anything to go by, then dinners in their restaurant must be wonderful! This establishment is definitely worth a visit, preferably for as long as you can. We shall be going back and back again. The flight from Heathrow to Lyon is cheap and takes only approx. 75 mins. By car to St. Amour about 90 mins. The nearby town of Macon is delightful, as is the ancient abbey town of Cluny. Do go wine tasting, their are so many wine growers nearby that you are spoilt for choice as to which wine to try next. Do go!!!

We stayed at the Auberge Paradis on June 25 2006 and what a gem it turned out to be! It is small with terrific hospitality from Cyril and Valerie. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated with a contempory twist. We loved the Auberge so much that we booked an additional night at the end of our trip. Our first night we had a room with a balcony overlooking the vineyards and watched a spectacular thunderstorm. Our second stay 2 weeks later we stayed in an equally lovely room overlooking the main village of St Amour. Dinner was exceptional and beautifully presented and the breakfast was lovely, with lots of different home-made jams. Our favourite was Cyril's lemon curd which was to die for. We visited 3 wine tasting cellars in the main street - it would have been 4 but one was closed! We can't recommend the hotel too highly, it is in a wonderful location and thoroughly worth seeking it out. We shall return .......

First impressions, it sat on a main road but looked charming, reception area was pleasant and on entering the room you immediately notice the plastic wood effect flooring (Ikea?) and the UPVC windows.

The positives:

The bedding, towels etc, the fixtures & fittings are all of the very highest quality, it was immaculately clean & the room size is generous.

That rarity, a kettle in a French hotel room.

Breakfast €15pp as described by others on TP is probably as good as it gets in France, allow 45-60 mins because it would be a shame to leave any of it.

The negatives:

5 out of 7 rooms face the main road and you will have 40-60 ton trucks, buses, vans, 2 strokes going past from 6.00am. Its quiet over night but we found these disturbing between 6-8 am, 5-7pm.

The décor is meant to be a fashion/design statement which is completely out of context in Beaujolais, you can see why the hotel is so popular with Parisians and glossy magazines obsessed with fashion over substance. I was looking for a ‘charming’ French hotel; quiet, cool, wooden floors, nice garden, classic décor and the hotel is none of these. I wanted a room which worked; the sink & tap were expensive quality items but give me a sink with a plug for a shave, a tap which was easy to use and controllable which didn’t waste huge quantities of water. This might be a crime but net curtains because you are over looked.

A fridge would have been very useful and some ‘normal’ teas & coffees (rather than the designer rubbish)

All over the hotel you will find the design statements i.e. pointless bric a brac which frankly gets in the way. See website

The restaurant only offered one choice, a 6 course tasting menu €45, nothing cheaper or a la carte, likely minimum spend €120 for 2 people.

I didn’t find Valerie particularly welcoming.

Overall, you have to acknowledge the quality aspects and the breakfast but this hotel is probably not everyone’s idea of paradise.

We stayed at Auberge du Paradis on our way back from the South of France, driving to Paris and we highly recommend it.

The rooms are large, spotless clean, and very nicely decorated.
The hotel owners are charming and have very good taste for both decoration and gastronomy. Saint Amour (the village) is one of the best to discover good local French wine and the owners can recommend several good wine producers in the area. If you decide to stay there, do book at the hotel restaurant as this was one of our best experiences for local gastronomy. prices are reasonable and quality is very high.

Overall our experience was really nice and worth the spend and we would highly recommend it to travellers in the area. We just don't think there is an even close match in the area.... Enjoy!

The only thing I regret about my stay at Auberge du Paradis (AdP) is that it wasn't longer. I stayed there in March on my honeymoon. My husband and I spent a full week in Paris, followed by 2 days/3 nights in Saint-Amour-Bellevue at AdP, and then 3 days in London. I wish that we would have spent 5 days in Paris and 5 at AdP.

I was charmed from the moment I stepped foot into the hotel. It looks exactly like the pictures on the website. Actually, no, it looks better. At every corner there is another eclectic design choice -- from antique sewing tables as cafe tables to giant wine cork stools. We stayed in the Ginger Room, which was fresh, spacious, and relaxing. I loved it so much that a picture of the room is actually the screen saver on my computer!

The food was as impressive as the decor. We dined at high-end, celebrity chef restaurants in Paris (and do so all of the time in NYC), but none of our meals even compared to Cyril's (the chef/owner) tasting menu at AdP! It was the best meal of my life. There was even a Michelin judge sitting at the table next to us during our dinner adding to the excitement! The breakfast was our best one in France as well (pastries, breads, eggs shaped like hearts, lemon curd, cured meats, etc.).

I did a LOT of research prior to our honeymoon. We wanted to spend time in a wine region and were planning on going to Bordeaux. As soon as I came across AdP online, that plan changed and we were headed to the Burgundy region! The location of the hotel was very convenient -- only about 15 minutes from Macon (a larger town with a train station) and an easy, beautiful ride to Beaune and Dijon. There are lots of other great restaurants in the area ( We dined at Le Cep, Chez Pierre, and Jean-Pierre (which is right across the street from AdP)).

If I could give Auberge du Paradis and Excellent+ rating, I would. I can't wait to stay there again!
