We stayed in a nicely appointed two-bedroom apartment (bedrooms and full bath were upstairs), which was in a separate building from the historic chateau (although all guests have access to the library and terrace) as well as both pools. The apartment was nice and quiet, pool was just outside our door and heated so that it was very comfortable and relaxing even in October. The restaurant was excellent and the breakfast buffet was very nice too. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The grounds of the estate were wonderful to walk around and the village of St. Vincent-de-Cosse was nearby (no stores or cafes in this village). There are hiking trails in the hills about the village. The Chateau is well situated so that it's about equidistant from the Vezere Valley (Font de Gaume Cave) and the town of Sarlat.

Room Tip: If you like privacy and quiet, the apartments would be better than hotel rooms in the chateau.

We stayed for three nights as a family of 5 in one of the loft rooms. The accommodation was perfect for us, with a double room, a little sitting room, bathroom and a mezzanine space with three beds for the kids.
The chateau is really beautiful and incredibly well located. We visited several castles, some gardens and the grottes de Lascaux and also went kayaking. When we got back from sightseeing, we would spend time by the pool (having both an adult and a family pool worked really well as I didn’t need to worry about the children splashing around too much).
We had a lovely breakfast each morning and also had a delicious dinner at the hotel restaurant. On one night, we bought some food at a local supermarket and ate at one of the picnic tables near our room.
The hotel is really great value for money with very good family accommodation and I would absolutely recommend it. We’d love to come back.

Fabulous location, easy to access and lots of parking. Stayed in a standard room that felt a little bland. However, we welcomed the AC and the bathroom/shower was great. Our room was large with a seating area and good views.... Just lacked something. The hotel has 2 pools and one is adult only, so very quiet with excellent views over the grounds and surrounding area. Breakfast was a highlight, lots to choose from, great coffee available to take inside the chateau or on the balcony. We didn't eat in the restaurant but enjoy drinks in the bar in the evenings. A car is essential as there isn't anywhere within walking distance for dinner etc.

Overall, a lovely hotel that we enjoyed but it just doesn't hit the spot for top marks from me. Some small things would make all the difference including more information on check in, information in the room about the local area, and more attention to decor in the room.

Response from Domaine Monrecour, Autre at Domaine du Château de Monrecour
Responded Jul 23, 2023
Dears, all the staff of Monrecour thanks you for this very precise and complete review. We always try to help guests in different ways: our receptionists are present from 7:30am to midnight to give all the information they want on the Domaine and its surroundings, the main tourist sites and the activities to do aound. When they arrive, they give them a lot of information on our place that may then be found on a dedicated channel on television in the rooms. We hope you had a lovely stay at Monrecour and wish to welcome you again. Reception service

Only ok. Bed very hard and pillows not great. We had room 18 in the annex for 2 nights and it was a bit of a dungeon, very little natural light. Seems newly renovated/built so can’t understand why this wasn’t considered in design honestly. Air con in room really noisy (intermittently, so wirs up then wirs down all night) really annoying coupled with uncomfortable bed made for an unpleasant nights rest. Bizarre interaction with reception to begin with where we were told we couldn’t eat in the restaurant any of the 2 nights as we hadn’t pre reserved. We then pointed out that it doesn’t say on the confirmation email that you need to reserve as it gets busy (my fault I guess for not thinking that could be a mistake..,). Anyway, after a few hours panic they managed to fit us in for dinner that night, but we were told that we couldn’t eat there the second night, I’ve no idea why as when we were paying at the restaurant we asked if we could book for the second night and they said yes! So we did eat there both nights, no idea why reception was telling us we couldn’t. Bizzare and an unnecessary worry for us. The restaurant was nice, service great, food good on Sunday but not so good Monday (I suspect, different chef in kitchen). Cheese supplement clearly straight out of supermarket packets and was embarrassingly bad. Breakfast was pretty bad, coffee from coffee machines very, very poor, otherwise not too bad but quite a lot of mould on one of the bits of ham from buffet. Another rigmarole with reception about an iron and ironing board, we asked for an iron and ironing board but there is a laundry room where you can do it yourself, however reception told us that they were looking for the ironing board for us and then two hours later told us that this room existed and they didn’t provide irons and ironing boards- why? Bonkers waste of time for us. Tv didn’t work and reception had to come fix.
Bizzare place, won’t return. Nice grounds though.

We stayed at the Château for 2 nights at the end of July/22. The Château is beautiful and it was very well restored to accommodate guests offering modern and comfortable accommodation. Breakfast was plenty with everything you could need to start your day. The swimming pool was lovely even though we only used it once at the end of the day. It was nice to have a pool only for adults without the screams and splashes of kids around. We loved staying there and will certainly go back next time we are in this part of France.

This place ticks all the boxes for a relaxing family holiday. A beautiful venue and backdrop, it oozes a sense of luxury without being over the top. We stayed in the larger gite, than the main building with plenty of space to relax and unwind.

There is a gastronomic restaurant onsite and a well stocked bar. Should you wish, bakeries and supermarkets are also a short drive away.

With many activities nearby (eg kayaking on the Dordogne or hot air balloon rides), there is still plenty onsite like ping pong or board games. There are cycling and waking routes from the venue too.

It is an excellent location from which to visit many beautiful towns and chateaus. What really makes this place special are the staff, who are constantly running around to make every guest feel looked after, merci!

We loved our stay! Everything was perfect. Our room was great. Stunning bathroom with jacuzzi tub and shower. Fantastic breakfasts. The fact there are 2 pools is wonderful so that the children aren’t bothered by the adults and visa versa. The restaurants were terrific all around the area. Our one dinner here was just ok, but it might have just been an off nite as they were always busy. Very quiet and relaxing. We will be back

An impressive chateau with 2 outside swimming pools + one for small children. Large grounds where hot air balloons take off. The restaurant offers exquisite food of a very high standard. Our bedroom was rather small but larger rooms are available. Benjamine on reception was friendly and efficient. It even has 3 Tesla fast chargers.

Took the bistro lunch menu at 19eu for 3 courses. had bottle of white wine and sparkling water extra. Small choice but nice home cooked food. One duck was sent back as tough and another choice was made. Perfect portions for ladies perhaps not for hungry men. Staff very very good. Gorgeous setting, lovely grounds. Perfect day out for four of us.

Another lovely lunchtime spent at Chateau Monrecour. Three course lunch, beautifully presented with an amuse and petit fours. Flavours as usual were excellent. The service was really good, attentive but not overly. Really enjoyed ourselves, not rushed, very relaxed. Thanks to the front of house team and of course to the chef and his team. Definitely on our list of returning too.
