My wife and I have just spent 10 wonderful days at the Anavana Beach Resort. This was our third stay at this property which was formerly known as Poppies. The new owner has managed to retain the character and charm of this well known resort, and critically, he has also been able to re-engage many of the experienced staff. Anavana is located at the quieter southern end of Chaweng Beach. Accommodation is offered in the form of 24 spacious cottages which provide the privacy my wife and I appreciate whilst on holiday. The cottages are nestled into the well maintained gardens and are placed within the landscape to provide a private view from the front porch.
Put simply, the accommodation and services offered by this resort are 1st Class but the compelling reason we keep coming back is the fabulous staff - nothing is too much trouble. As Anavana is not a large resort, guests have the opportunity to engage with the staff on a more personal basis. We find that staff begin to anticipate our needs once we establish some sort of loose routine.
We are looking forward to our next visit.

We spent 2 weeks at Anavana in June. We had previously stayed at Poppies 4 times (last visit in 2018) and were not sure if it would be as good as previously. However, the resort is still as good as it was and we had an amazing holiday The resort is made up of 24 Thai style cottages which are set within tropical gardens that lead down to the white sands of Chaweng beach. All of the cottages are identical and all are about 1 minutes walk to the beach. The resort is at the far end of Chaweng so the beach is very quiet and perfect for a relaxing holiday. The location is perfect for local shops and restaurants all of which are in walking distance or there are loads of cheap songthaews or taxis available if you want to venture further around the Island.
The staff are all very pleasant and do their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Special mention to Lek who brightens up breakfast as well as Lily and Pook in the spa. The guys in the bar/beach also made sure we had everything we needed on the beach.
The one thing that we were slightly disappointed about was that previously the breakfast was served al la carte - there was no buffet. However, on this trip the 1st week breakfast was served al la carte but in our second week they introduced a buffet as the resort was busier. However, even the size of the resort there were never many people having breakfast at the same time so I am not convinced a buffet is needed and it creates a lot of work setting up and down as well as potential food waste.
However, overall we had a great stay and will definitely be returning.

This place is awesome! It's like living in the Garden of Eden. The bungalows are all separated by lush vegetation and nestled in a jungle garden next to the beach. So, you step out of your bungalow into a jungle, walk a couple of minutes and you are at a beautiful, pristine beach. The staff are very friendly and most speak very good English. The restaurant is very nice and the food is good. There is a spa on location as well and the swimming pool is like a natural stream pool. And, if you like fresh juice smoothies, like I do, just next door is a juice bar. Very delicious. There is also a 7-11 and two pharmacies just outside the resort only a minute’s walk.

Had a great time here! Small resort, formerly known as poppie’s. The name change may explain why the place was so quiet which is actually one of the characteristics I enjoyed most! Bungalo had enough room for toddler to sleep on the couch and baby to sleep in a crib. Bathroom was well designed and has a shower/tub which is useful for kids and adults. Best part was swimming pool which is enclosed in the shade! Allows for comfortable swimming conditions without baking in the hot Thailand sun! Beach small but very nice. Hotel location right next to 7-11 which allows for easy purchase of water, food, etc. Restaurants readily accessible at the hotel and across and down the street. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended!

This is not only a family summer trip but more than everything a return "home" after the pandemic period: and it couldn't have been more perfect under any point of view. All the staff sincerely took care of us in a kind, smiling, sweet way anytime making us for real feeling like home. A special home, surrounded by a lush tropical garden and amazing people. The cottage is cozy and comfortable, any common space clean and well kept, the beach offer peaceful moments during the day or as soon as the evening arrives maybe sipping a good cocktail or having the most romantic dinner. Food is lovely and always served with the sweetest smile offered any time from Khun Lek, but I would say anytime spent at Anavana is accompanied by the kindest smile of each person working there to make your stay really unforgettable. From check in to departure, our seven day stay at Anavana Beach Resort has been absolutely wonderful.
Away from the other noisy resorts, Anavana is positioned less than 5-meters from Chawing beach with turquoise sea and beautiful white sand. The ocean stays very shallow for many meters out and is surprisingly very warm.
The resorts private beach has plenty of sun beds, brollies and natural shade from trees and a quiet beach bar just meters away serving cool drinks.
The resort has around 22 beautiful Thai-style cottages set in winding tropical greenery. Rooms are spacious with excellent air-conditioning. Large smart televisions let you access your favourite streaming platforms, Netflix, Prime, Apple, etc. just input your usual password. Wifi is free and the island has 5G Network.
The Anavana Beach resort was above our expectations, the photos look good on the website, but the resort looks even better in real life!
We met several guests who stayed here when it was called Poppies, and they were extremely positive with how Anavana had taken over the old Poppies resort. All of the staff from front desk to gardeners are wonderful and so friendly.
We visited in June with temperatures averaging 30C with no rain. Next time we are in Thailand, we will definitely visit Anavana again.

We stayed 5 days at Anavana Beach Resort (2 connecting cottages which is a great advantage when staying with kids !). This resort really deserves it's 5 stars review score. This was our number 1 most preferred location during the entire visit to Thailand in July24, and we can only highly recommend ! Above all, we will remember forever the kind and very helpfull staff working at Anavana, but also cleanless of the cottages, quite location in such a beautiful green environment with direct connection to the beach. We loved the great Thai food at breakfast with plenty of choices, as well as in the restaurant in the evening for dinner, including music shows, and Thai dance demo's. The location of the Resort on Koh Samui is great for doing island tours and other trips. It is not far from busy Chaweng Beach, but the area of Anavana is very quite, and the sea is perfect for swimming.

Our nine-night stay (end August) at Anavana was fantastic. The staff were absolutely superb: front desk, restaurant, bar, beach, chambermaids and all the support staff. The accommodation was wonderful. The food and drinks were great.
One important thing to note: this is right on the beach (see pics: bungalows don’t front the beach but the furthest bungalow is maybe 40m max) and the beach is one of the best you can imagine. It’s clean, with powdery white sand and turquoise water (no rocks or seaweed whatsoever). If you want to front onto a perfect beach, this could be the one.
Anavana is at the southern end of Chaweng beach, which is the quieter end with the better sand and sea. It’s about 20mins walk up the beach to the noisier and more active part of Chaweng beach proper. So Anavana is “far from the madding crowds” but it’s still pretty busy, eg the occasional jetski whizzing past, it’s Chaweng after all. If you’re after a really quiet beach, this might be a little too much.
The sea was very calm and shallow for most of our stay, the last couple of days there were some small waves.
Anavana has its own sunbeds (about a dozen) and there is always one available - guests don’t put a towel down on sunbeds they don’t want and the resort is pretty small anyway so there’s sufficient supply. This is great. The beach guy sorts you out with towels and water etc and the barman will bring drinks and/or food to your lounger.
We didn’t use the pool much. It’s ok - smallish and pretty - but if you prefer pool to beach then I’d say maybe Anavana isn’t ideal.
Rooms: each bungalow seems to be a one-bed with an extra daybed that probably can accommodate an extra person. Comfy beds, nice shower. Though the shower tray which was also a sunken bath did not look appealing for a bath!
Neighbourhood: the lobby of the resort is on the main Chaweng Road. There is a useful 7-11 convenience store next door with an ATM and also a pharmacy. And a good massage place opposite. We headed south for some good restaurants (like Jam, Penderi, Benzo Sushi and the PizzaPasta place opposite). But there are thousands of good places to eat and drink if you head north on the main road. Neighbourhood feels safe.
Massages: great beach massages right by the resort! Special mention to Nathalia who gave my wife her daily relaxing massage on the beach.
Oh, and the resort has two kayaks and a paddleboard that are available for guests to borrow, gratis. Useful!
What would I change? Next time we come to Kohl’s Samui, we might go to a quieter, more “idyllic” beach. But frankly, we’re fussy and were very happy at Anavana. A huge thank you by the way to any staff reading this review - their kindness and care made such a beautiful experience.

Amazing and friendly staff. Beautiful resort and beach. Very clean. We will definitely come back. Thank you so much for the amazing experience.
We are a family of 4 and the villa was set up perfectly for us. The food was delicious and the staff were really excellent. Special mention to Kun Lek who worked in the restaurant, she was really attentive and always had a smile on her face.
The beach is clean with White Sands and there are a lot of families and activities in the area.
We had great fun and will be back.
(Quick note; we did also go to another Thai restaurant in the area called Phensiri which we also really recommend… suggest you book, they are very popular.
Can also recommend 100 Degrees east for snorkelling / diving. They are excellent and more private, only 12 passengers per trip. Also recommend booking in advance).

The hotel is very nice - individual cottages set in beautiful gardens. The staff are absolutely lovely and some even remembered us from when we had been there five years ago (when it was Poppies). The bar and restaurant are both reasonably priced (for a hotel) and Happy Hour was very welcome after a day on the beach. It was a shame that guests "reserved" the sunbeds and then didn't use them for hours. The staff were too nice to stop people doing this, but it isn't what you expect in an up-market hotel. There are loads of shops and restaurants nearby but the hotel is very quiet and peaceful. The beach is beautiful. The town centre is a 15 minute walk or a five minute songthaew ride. All in all, a great hotel.
