A ten rooms hotel along the Garonne ideally located to visit the vineyards between Bordeaux and Margaux. Its ten luxurious rooms, finely furnished, are each marked by a particular soul, the quiet charm of an old house along the Garonne and a modern comfort. Bathrooms, made with wood and mosaics, inspire welfare. The hotel has its own boat to join Bordeaux center. 15 minutes of sailing, drinks on board, facing the 18th century facades of Bordeaux.

We booked The Suite which the Hotel's web site shows that it has three large windows/doors and a full river view from both inside the room and from a covered terrace. On arrival we were shown to Room 8 and told this was "the other suite". The web site only refers to one suite? Room 8 is one floor above The Suite and has a single door via two steep steps onto an open terrace and no river view as the canopy of trees has blocked the view. We asked to be moved and were told this was not possible. I complained to the Receptionist that this room was not the room I had booked and he said he could no nothing other than inform the Manager - who I believe is the owners' son. As there were only two other guests in the hotel I expected the Manager to make contact quickly to discuss and solve this serious issue. After a day went by I emailed him and sent photos of the view which I had taken and compared them to a screenshot from his own web site which unequivocably showed the problem. There was no river view. There were not three windows/doors giving a panoramic view, there was one. After another day went by without any response whatsoever so I emailed him again and pleasantly and politely asked that we meet before we checked out, or if he was too busy, to speak to him on the phone beforehand. I received an offensive email from the Manager suggesting that because we had no complaint in his eyes - there was a river view - that we were only trying to negotiate a discount! He would comp us two breakfasts, that was the end of it, don't even think of asking for more and he was too busy to even talk on the phone! The hotel interior is fine but the outside needs some TLC. It is really is a Business Seminar and Wedding Venue. No restaurant and a good 20 minutes drive to any other restaurant or place of interest. Breakfast as 22€ is vastly overpriced, but due to the isolated location you are a captive market. The selection is similar to that of an Ibis Budget breakfast at €9. Scrambled eggs left in a basin. Croissants run out and a 15 minute wait whilst the Receptionist cooks some more from frozen. Despite offering a Room Service including a cheese plate and charcuterie, the daily breakfast offering for the hotel included 6 slices of the same cheese, six slices of ham and smoked salmon, no other choice. Serve yourself coffee from a bean to cup machine which would run out when the Recptionist was otherwise engaged with her many other duties. Tip for travellers. Look at the Hotel on Google maps satellite view. The right hand looking view is mainly of an industrial wharf with huge silos, fuel storage tanks etc. The Hotel boasts a private boat which will take you to Bordeaux. €140 single way. We asked for a price to take us to Bordeaux and collect us later in the day. We were quoted €500. Go figure! We booked a one way boat trip and looked forward to it being a holiday highlight, but it was cancelled 90 minutes beforehand due to the the Skipper not being able for personal reasons to attend. No Plan B for another Skipper, so we ended up taking a taxi. Some building works were taking place and it would have been nice to know about that beforehand - and the two different suites - as we could have changed our dates to accomodate. The Staff are wonderful and trying to make up the shortfalls, but they need more staff to justify a 4 Star rating and an offering to match the price and isolated location.

We originally booked a two-night non-refundable stay at the hotel for November 2020, but due to travel restrictions from Covid, we were unable to visit France at that time and so asked to change our booking to June 2020 which the hotel agreed to. Recently with travel restrictions in the UK extended, we asked the hotel if we could move our booking back again to August. The hotel immediately refused to change our booking again and cancelled our reservation without any offer of a voucher or refund. There was no understanding from the hotel that the situation was not our choice and we were extremely disappointed with the customer service and lack of flexibility.

My Borderlais partner and I booked this Chateau for our wedding whilst living abroad, so we didn't see it. The alarm bells should've rung when our wedding planner visited, and provided terrible feedback on the unfriendly staff, and location which has factories and other industrial type structures near by. Regardless, we ignored this, as we loved the idea of the venue being by the river (big mistake). I will say that the ladies on the desk were always friendly to exchange emails with, sadly the manager didn't follow his lovely staffs' professional and friendly attitude. When we finally visited Grattequina, we were not asked if we'd like to be shown around, we were just left to it (even though our deposit had already been paid. When booking our wedding here, there was absolutely no negotiation on anything whatsoever. This included asking if we could use chairs outside, whether we could use the pool on the Sunday for our Sunday brunch (we weren't even permitted outside of the brunch room, let alone to use the Chateau grounds), if we could access the room early for me to get ready in, if we could stay outside past 9pm, etc. This was all feeling very disheartening. Then, Covid struck and our wedding was inevitably and sadly cancelled. We were first offered to move the wedding between October-March (we didn't want a winter wedding, as ours had been booked for June). After a series of emails, we were offered until next year, but we were hesitant to move this in case Covid had not been resolved. Bittersweet that we didn't take up their offer of October, as France is now experiencing curfews, and up to 15 people for weddings (ours was up to 150 people). We asked for our deposit back instead, and that we'd rebook once the world is Covid clear, we were told no. This is thousands we have lost, our money that they have stolen from us. I understand that so many businesses are suffering right now, but so is everyone. Had Grattequina offered to repay our deposit, or even meet us half way, then we'd of course rearrange our future wedding here, but of course that won't be happening now due to their lack of courtesy, and the bitter feeling this has left. There are so many of our suppliers, the little people who have given our deposits back, who we will certainly use in the future, then there's the mean ones. Sadly I should've listened to my wedding planner after all.
