We have just returned from Mikes Camp and can only say the very best things about it. From our arrival Mike and Caroline greeted us with such warmth and friendliness. The bandas were all incredible and we finally chose to stay in Creek 2 with amazing views on all sides. The rooms were massive and well kitted out with comfortable...

This is like no place I've ever been before. The views, the tranquility, the eco-lodge comfort but simplicity of the place. I visited briefly on a fishing trip and thought I must return. And so I came back with my wife and she loved it as much as me. The kind of place you just have to keep returning to....

When I arrived to Mikes Camp i wouldn't believe my own eyes. Everyone who has been there says that it is a fantastic camp. I am so happy I went there, and I wish that I was able to stay for longer. There are so many good things to say about the place: The staff - first of all -...

Mike's camp is truly the most amazing, relaxing place on earth. I recently visited this extra-ordinary place, we were put in gorgeous bandas, ate incredible fresh food and had three miles of beach to ourselves. Mike who runs the camp is utterly charming. We were looked after so well by all the staff, highly recommended.

I've been to a lot of beaches. Beaches in Kenya, beaches in Mozambique, beaches in the Caribbean, beaches on the Red Sea. There is no other beach that compares to this one because not only is it pristine and surrounded by miles of untouched sand dunes, you have it all to yourself. To have a place like this all to...

It was no wonder that Bob Marleys lyrics "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds" sprang to mind while I was at Mike's Camp, Kiwayu. I mean, this magical place exudes relaxation on every level. Unshackling myself from the everyday it was a mere two hours before we were reclined, gin and tonic in hand...

Coming from Malindi, we had a short lunch break in Lamu and continued to Kiwayuu... two hours in speed boat through the most beautiful mangrove forests, little islands... just stunning. We finally reached the camp and were amazed by the beauty of the area, the quietness and the hospitality of the people. Food was excellent. The beaches perfect and basically...

I first visited this island in the Lamu archipelago back in 1994 when I was backpacking through East Africa - the camp was in its early stages after Mike stumbled across it on his dhow fishing safaris through the maze of winding mangrove channels and surrounding marine national park. I instantly fell in love with it and the contrasting sides...

location is fantastic . The island itself is large( mike's is the only hotel), with great views, friendly and discret inhabitants and wildlife. You can choose betxween the sea and the mangrove ( with no end). you can also go on the mainland and visit the coastline (untouched ; hopefully for long thanks to the threat of the Somali bandit)...

After 8 hours to Nairobi, then the Safarilink flight to Kiwayu, the 10 minute boat trip over to Mikes Camp on the island of Kiwayu, was sheer heaven. To arrive in this 'middle of nowhere' camp in the wonderful African heat felt like paradise. After a very warm and friendly greeting from Mike and Rosie, and having regained our breath...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mike’s Camp is located on Kiwayu Island, one of the many unspoilt, idyllic islands of the Lamu Archipelago, on one of the most stunningly remote places in Kenya Coast. You are offered your own private island where you are safe and undisturbed. Surrounded by miles of soft white sand, turquoise waters and gorgeous coral gardens, it offers one of the only beaches in Kenya on which you can walk for miles without seeing a single soul. We are an Eco Camp where water is brought by donkey and power comes from the wind and the sun. The seven private and spacious bandas are set amongst the sand dunes, with panoramic views. Make of locally weaved palms, they blend harmoniously into the environment. All have mosquito nets, complimentary towels and toiletries, en suite bathrooms, hand painted bucket shower, flushing toilets and laundry service. The living areas are simply decorated with local art crafted from recycled colourful flip flops. Mike's Camp, also includes a sun terrace. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant, with packed lunches available on request. Dine together under the stars. Feast on fresh fish, Seafood, tropical fruits and vegetables. The menus are Swahili and International based using local spices and fresh herbs. It is simple fresh cuisine. We can cater for vegetarians. Picnics in the beach hut are a regular occurrence and people often enjoy a romantic dinner in a unique setting. You can be as relaxed or active as you like. Mike’s Camp offers tranquility, water sports, safaris and fishing in a uniquely homely environment. You can snorkel in the coral reefs off the beach on either side of the island, go sand yachting, kayaking, boogie boarding, sailing, waterskiing, wake boarding, kite surfing, picnicking on neighbouring remote coral islands, deep sea fishing, fly fishing, windsurfing and diving. You can also play table tennis and darts at the Camp. Without any pretensions you can listen to the birds, swim with the fishes and marvel at the beauty of nature… or play your music as loud as your want! Introducing a new spacious banda -Sankuri House- includes 2 rooms (each with their own bathrooms) kitchen, dining area and seating area with a stunning panoramic view of the mangrove and the ocean to relax in after a busy day.
