Located just 3 minutes drive from the centre of Matamata (the closest New Zealand town to Hobbiton), we were so pleased to have chosen the Tower Road motel. Greeted by the friendly Karen (co-owner and operator) we were checked in within 5 minutes and given useful advice for dinner, Hobbiton tours and other activities in and around the area. Our... More

Stayed for one night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is the cleanest country motel that I have stayed in for a long time. Great utensils to be able make your own meals. Also in a nice quiet location just out of town

My cousin & I came to Matamata to visit Hobbiton. This motel was very clean and had everything you could need and more. The linen was lovely, TV channel choices good, and it contained everything we could need to make our stay homely. The first thing that struck me was the lovely tidy grounds and the gardens outside the units.... More

Positives: 1) Location: just out of town, quiet. 2) Studio room was relatively big with a kitchenette, shower and toilet. 3) Everything was clean. 4) WiFi was free and worked well. 5) Tea/coffee and milk were provided. Negatives: 1) The only sink in the kitchenette was a bit useless - tap didn't extend far enough. 2) To get to the... More

Hello to you both, thanks for taking the time to review our motel we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are not sure what you meant on the extension of the tap, also you walk past the shower cubicle that has a curtain to the toilet that has its own door. Room price doesn't include breakfast as not everyone... More

This motel is on a street that came out from the main avenue (Broadway). Although it is not on the main road, there is a fair amount of traffic. The road is flat and straight so people go at speed. We had a room that is furthest away from the road, which we were thankful for, but there was still... More

Karen & Terry looked after us very well indeed. Due to a booking arrangement, we spent 4 nights in one of the single bedroom units & a further 2 nights in a studio unit. Both were very comfortable, spotless & most of the essentials needed were on hand. Possibly, if you are staying more than a couple of nights, the... More

I'm sorry I didn't catch the owner's name but she was fabulous to deal with. At arrival, she was very friendly and welcoming. Very much enjoyed our stay. One Bedroom Unit was great with undercover parking. Plenty of space to spread out. The unit was very clean with the 1960s décor making very quaint. The Tower Road Motel was a great place to stay on our way south from Auckland! The owners were very friend;y and helpful and the rooms were small but clean and great value for money. Only a short drive into town to restaurants or the i-Site.
