Detailed Reviews
Good location on the beach right in front of the water, beautiful view and simple cottages with private bathroom.
Bring your own mosquito repellent and also recommended the mosquito spiral cause yes there is a lot of insects of all kinds. I got bitten by i dont know what kind of animal in the night in the bed under the mosquito net ( not bedbugs ) and still have those bites in my armpit.
So if you are scared of crawlies- this is not your place.
If he would cut down some trees and let moore sun in - the problem would be less.
Very very nice and friendly owner family, helpful and good solid people.
We slept with all doors and windows open every night so safe as well.
The best is of course the food, the chef puts all his love and care into the wonderful dishes.
Even the aestethics of the dishes is 5 star.
Good job, keep up the wonderful job !

The family is very welcoming and helpful. The resort is very clean and well-kept. You sleep in small basic huts right on the beach and there are beautiful coral reefs for snorkeling.
The food is delicious and I had no problems as a vegan. However, the homestay is about 30 minutes away from Maumere town. If you are looking for peace and nature, this is the place for you.
The homestay is highly recommended

Totally relaxing. Right on the beach. I first stayed here in 2008 and have been back quite a few times since. Simple, clean accommodation. Go to sleep to the sound of gently lapping waves. Great food prepared by chef, Aldi. Clean beach. Lush garden. Cold beer Great people.

Location: They've moved to a new location.
The new place is Waiterang Beach (near Lena house 1).
Do not get confused, because the old place still has the sign, after you encounter that first sign, go 3km further east and you will find the new place.
*Pros: 5-10M from the beach, there's a nice colorful house reef, with clear water, almost no waves, the depht 1-1.5M & about 50-60M from the beach there's a WWII Japanese Shipwreck (you have to dive to see it).
*Cons: closer to the road compared to the old place, a little bit traffic noise during the day, but quiet after dark
Cottages:
*Pros: Brand New, just finished around June-July 2015 I think
Lovely veranda with unobstructed sea view
Comfortable new bed with mosquito net
Clean bathroom with shower and western toilet, plenty fresh water
Electricity using generator, only available from 6-9pm
*Cons: none
Food:
*Dinner: We tried potato curry(25K) and grilled fresh fish(50K)
The fish was good, really big portion but you have to order 1 day before
The curry was really good, it's a must try
*Breakfast: Average, just pancake, fruit, and coffe/tea
Room rates:
Depends on season: we stayed during low season, so we got 150K/night for the small cottages(max 2 people)
The bigger cottages can acommodate up to 4 people)
*The person who run the place(Mr. Hendrik +6282147687254) said that they gonna try to install permanent electricity and build a few more cottages
Right now there's 3 cottages there so far
You can text him for reservation
*They sure can organise trips for you

Everything I read is so true: very slow service, only one plug for electricity, basic accomodation, wasp nests in the bungalow, a pebble beach, very few fishes in the water due to bomb fishing practice (in the past...). And nothing much to do around this place... unless you are curious enough to hang around. And let me add that is not the cheapest place around neither, that you can face a tsunami, or volcano eruption, earth quake, mosquito bites or a fatal fall of coconut on your head!
So, if you are looking for a luxury place with a white sand beach, a nice swiming pool and a night club... just don't go to Flores.
But if you are looking for a laid back and safe place, if you are looking for very simple bungalows, if you like being in the nature, if you need to relax in a quiet place, if you want to share quietness with others... this place might be the good one.
That said, this is definitely one of my favorite places in east Indonesia. Some realy enjoy ending their trip here, I do realy enjoy starting my trip here. And I realy do like coming back.
Thank you Hendrick.

We had a really relaxed stay at Sunset cottages. While it is pretty basic, that suited us just fine. The family made us feel very welcome - arranging a snorkelling trip out to the islands and scooter hire. The house reef is okay for a snorkel - but not great. We enjoyed walks on the beach, sunsets and watching the world go by.

Noting that this accom is 28km from the airport and the town of Maumere, it was a very quiet stay with lovely staff of 2 families.
Basic bamboo huts on the water. We went on a great snorkeling trip organised by our hosts with the boat picking us up in front of our hut. Wifi weak.
Best of all was the food. Great curry and the presentation WOW

Location is situated approximately 20 km from Maumere, but considering that in Maumere you have nothing to do, the location is ok. Situated near the beach and the main road. Its a nice place, the bungalows are 15m from the beach. The beach infront is nice and kept clean. No hot water but there's no need. The chef/waiter was nice. The owner was polite and nice, but somehow I think that he lacks enthusiasm for the job.
Please do not recommend anyone more the taxi driver (your friend), i think his name was Alfredo at least so it says on the license plate of the vehicle. He is a cheater! This primitive man also threatened us with a brick. The worst experience in Flores.

Nice place to stay a few days.
Basic bamboo huts, but ok. Very good place for lovely lunches and real good dinners !!!
Hendrik and his family are good hosts and very good cooks. Ask for the fresh fish curry !!
From the hut to the beach is a few meters and the hammock is in between. Fantasic ! A coral reef starts right at that beach too, but a great snorkeling tour to Babi island can be arranged and should be advised also !
Lovely place and we will go back for sure !

We wound up our 2 weeks trip in Flores with 4 nights here. Idyllic place, thatched bungalows open at the roof but with tiled floors only a few steps from the beach. Bathrooms are basic with bucket style showers, but it's comfy enough, mozzie nets over the beds and a nice porch. 250k in high season, but can be discounted for more nights. It's not necessarily for everyone, and if ure petrified of creepy crawlies, you might want to reconsider, but is fine for regular travellers.
Essential to book ahead, there's only 3 bungalows and they didn't answer their phone. Someone else said email works. Possible to pitch a tent here too. All the staff are lovely and work hard to keep everyone satisfied.
Beach is black sand and pretty quiet, water is crystal clear, great swimming. Just local guys start to congregate and stare at my girlfriend after a while, kinda like anywhere in Indo. Owner readily organises trips, 500k for a small boat out to some islands with white sand beaches, motorbike rental and a guide to take you up the volcano, or merely show u the trailhead if u want to go alone.
Food was excellent, some of the best in Indo for sure. You need to order dinner in the morning and lunch an hour before, but really worth it...the fish/chicken curries were probably the best I've had anywhere. Free pancake for brekkie too. Be prepared here with water, snacks etc, there's hardly any shops within walking distance, and they do run out of bottled water sometimes.
Highly recommended! Just need more bungalows...

there is no house reef.
You have to take a boat- approx. 1 hour. the snorkeling there is not too bad, but if you can, head to the opposite side of the island, Komodo national park has so many lovely places to snorkel.
We spent 2 days snorkeling in the area of Sunset Cottages, it was more that enough.
