This is a rural property about 5 minutes drive from Belves and is well located for all the major roads in the area.
Access is via a gated driveway so security is good but we could only find a sign on one side of the road so we missed it the first time and our GPS sent us to a different property when we typed La Mothe into it.
Once there though, all was good.
Very good.
Ilse, the host was wonderful.
Engaging, suggestive, helpful. Really helpful.
Nothing ever seemed too much trouble for Ilse.
Our room (there were three) was huge with a couple chairs, a big window onto the paddocks and a huge, though separate, ensuite with plenty of hot, strong water.
The bed was comfortable but we could have done with some fluffier pillows.
Probably should have asked.
There was plenty of hanging space.
The wifi was good, not fast and it worked best in the kitchen but it did work reliably.
La Mothe has a pool and as it was quite hot whilst we were there, this was a lovely haven at the end of the day.
Some champagne, cheese and biscuits under the umbrella after a swim was the perfect way to end the day.
Breakfast was served with the other two couples, either outside on the terrace overlooking the paddocks (probably full of sunflowers by now) or in the kitchen or dining room. It was a typical French breakfast, breads, jams, juice, pastries, tea and coffee.
Despite the other two couple having limited English and us having limited anything other than English, talking about what we did yesterday and where we were going today was most enjoyable over breakfast.
We stayed at La Mothe for 6 days and it was so relaxing and enjoyable.
The property was good and Ilse was great.
If you are looking for a base near Belves, a really pretty town, then we would highly recommend La Mothe.

As visitors from Wales my wife and I have stayed a Chez Ilse La Mothe on several occasion over the years and have always received a warm welcome from our host Ilse Van Raemdonk, La Mothe is ideal for everything from a short B&B break to longer self catering rental of the house itself.

It is an ideal location for children with a swimming pool and safe grounds, and of course it is excellent as a base to visit the historic villages of the Dordogne and Lascaux . Bergerac is just just over an hour’s drive away with the vineyards of the Perchament wine close by

But the real highlight is Ilse herself, her cooking based on local recipes and produce accompanied by her excellent choice of wine. She is both a welcoming host and a mine of information about the region with advice on what to do , the markets to visit and places of interest to see. She is fluent in French and English and is always ready to provide guests with ideas on what to see and do in the area.

I had a fantastic experience staying at domaine de la Mothe. A well preserved house from 16-17th century but nicely modernized inside ! I had a huge room on the first floor w a brand new bathroom. I had access to all rooms at the ground floor incl. kitchen . Ilse is such a nice person and also an excellent cuisinière .
She served a three course dinner (duck breast) and free wine for 22 euros - it's incredible!
The surroundings are awesome .
You have to stay there if you are travelling around Dordogne.

Domaine de la Mothe is a beautifully restored farmhouse in the middle of the rolling hillsides of the south Dordogne. I stayed for 2 nights and had a totally relaxing time. The house is big and comfortable and Ilse is the friendliest host. She is happy to chat about the local area and answer questions whether you want to know about the weather, local markets, places to visit or how to make foie gras. My room was huge, I had my own huge bathroom and the house was really warm. I especially liked the wood-burning stove and the home-made walnut bread. Ilse lets guests use the kitchen and living room which makes for a very easy stay. Really recommend this place for anyone exploring this area!
