We were in between Siena and Rome. We had to return the car in Orvieto, and take the train to Rome. I wanted somewhere close to Orvieto (about 30 minutes drive) to return the car and grab a train into Rome. What a wonderful place in Umbria. Wish we had had another day more there. Great place to explore Orvieto, Civita di Bagnoreggio (very close), Lake Trasimeno, and the areas further east. On a hilltop, this bed and breakfast inn is BEAUTIFUL. Run by a great couple, Francesco and Serena and their little boy, Francesco is the chef. English is great. Both are outgoing and chatty. We ate what Fraqncesco recommended and it was wonderful. Good wine and drinks.
Have to have a car here. The closest town was Amelia (between Narni and Terni), which we spent a couple of hours roaming around in (an hour will do you). But the inn was wonderful--large rooms and great big bathrooms, impeccably kept, quiet, gorgeous countryside looking out the window, great food, and a BIG POOL. Outside and inside dining area. I would say it was the most impressive place we stayed in on our 2 week trip, and, at 70 euros, a STEAL! Breakfast included.

Went on a 'cooking holiday' with friends and had a wonderful time. We were made very welcome in this beautifully situated small hotel. The quality of the food and the 'cooking experience was first class. Included in our trip were several accompanied visits to typical hilltop villages/towns and a great day at a local vineyard. Our host Francesco could not have been more hospitable. Everything was included in the price including pick up and drop off at the airport and the trip was excellent value for money. The rooms are clean and comfortable but typically plain, in an Italian style. The pool area was nice, although we did not swim, it provided somewhere to relax in what free time we had. We had a great experience in the kitchen, using lots of fresh local produce and learning some new cooking methods. We would definitely return.
