What a beautiful time we had here. We went on recommendation and give it five stars on all fronts: cleanliness, friendliness, location, comfort… Shana, our hostess, was so lovely, the decor tastefully both antique and modern, and the breakfasts delicious! We took the kayaks out for a beautiful ride across the street and sat out on the quaint veranda to read and relax. The only place we’ll go when back in town.

I live in the local area near Les Trois Érables so was permitted to stay during lockdown restrictions. I highly recommend this as a vacation option to anyone in the Outaouais area! And beyond, once the restrictions come down. I stayed for 4 nights (during a stay-4-nights-pay-for-3 deal). Shana was an incredible host, making triply sure I had all the instructions for COVID procedures, arrival, and departure, and providing information on local businesses and options for breakfasts should I venture out instead of opting for in-house breakfasts (added for a small fee). I opted for one in-house gourmet breakfast which worked out well despite the awkwardness of lockdown: Shana prepared it the prior afternoon so that I could put it in the room fridge and have it read for the next morning. Shana was also cheerfully attentive by text for questions throughout the stay. COVID procedures included hand sanitizer to use before entering, an air purifier in the room that was to remain on for the stay, Lysol wipes in the room, and––purposefully or not––next to no personal contact inside the house. I was in the MacLaren room, perhaps the most basic? It was perfect for my wanting just a quiet place to hide, read, eat, watch movies, and come back to from little excursions. The bathroom includes a shower but not a bath. The coffee maker in the room accompanied a storage tower of pods with teas, lattes, and decaf & regular coffees. There was real milk and sugar in the fridge for the hot drinks, and Shana added a little daily home baking. I really enjoyed the flavour of the honey from their own beautiful apiary in the garden. Linens & toiletries: I have some lingering chemical sensitivities that we found perfectly suitable work-arounds for with regards to linens. The pink grapefruit soaps from a local soap company smelled wonderful! I had forgotten my glasses cleaner and Shana was able to offer something until I got my own. In the main foyer, there are trail maps and all the tourist brochures you could hope for. The trail map introduced me to some really lovely trails I hadn't known existed, despite having visited Wakefield many times. My favourite was the one that took me to the lookout above the Wakefield cemetery. I went out for a run a few times around the local area and thoroughly enjoyed exploring it that way. It extended my experience of the trails and views of the river. Wakefield's famous covered bridge is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk from Trois Érables, depending on your speed. I visited the Boulangerie Wakefield (bakery) 2 minutes away multiple times for deliciously fresh baking. I got a few groceries practically across the street from the grocery store in a heritage building. And finding that candy is an essential even during lockdown, I enjoyed finding a few treats to bring back for my family at La Confiserie Wakefield just a minute beyond the boulangerie. I sincerely look forward to coming to Les Trois Érables again!

Thank you so much for such a glowing and complete review! It is true that our covid restrictions have limited my interaction with guests, but as things open up I hope to have more contact with everyone. Getting to know my guests through texts is a little odd, but fortunately, keeps everyone safer. It was a pleasure having you here, and we look forward to having you back again soon. Wishing you all the best :) Shana

We visited for two nights while in the area looking at a horse to buy. Shana made sure we had everything we needed! We stayed in the stunning Geggie room . COVID protocols were awesome. Shana never entered our room. Towels were left outside the door and breakfast had been placed in the fridge in our room. Shana easily accommodated my friend who was gluten free and she loved Shana's awesome GF banana bread. Shoes did not go in the house they stayed in the vestibule area inside the front door. Masks were worn inside the house and hand sanitizer was outside the front door and on every floor. We felt very safe. Stunning home and absolutely amazing baking. Those cookies... yum! Looking forward to returning for a stay!

We stayed one night in February when we had tickets to a show at the Black Sheep Inn. Even with piles of snow all around, parking was easily accessible and clearly marked. Shana was a very welcoming host, eager to talk about the history of her beautiful home. The room was very inviting and comfortable and everything was immaculately clean. The house is located on the main street in Wakefield, overlooking the gorgeous lake and within easy walking distance of multiple restaurants and attractions. Next time, I'll make sure to book the breakfast; the other guests were raving about it. I'd go back here in a heartbeat!

What better way to escape the hustle and bustle of a city such as Ottawa and, within less than an hour, find yourselves on the waterfront of a quaint village in the Gatineau Hills as viewed and accessible from a heritage cosy B and B full of character? The only improvement on that solution would be to have its owners, Shana and Bruce spoil you as if you were royalty or a least close family. A few steps away from boutiques and restaurants, Les Trois Erables (The Maples) is dripping with heritage character and offers quiet, tastefully decorated rooms, including use of a sitting room with gas fireplace. The hosts are very knowledgeable about local activities and recommended the epicurean fare at the nearby La Maison du Village. Shana's breakfast with Eggs Benedictine on potato latkes was wonderful. All round positive experience and a welcome addition to anyone's special getaway list.
