Booked 2 kitchenette units with verbal confirmation. When arrived we were given a king room in the main hotel and a kitchenette in separate building. When questioned about the 2nd kitchenette, we were told we originally reserved 2 regular rooms, ( lessen learned get it in writing). Prior to arriving at 4:30 p.m we received 2 phone calls asking when we were arriving, we no sooner got our room keys and the girl was hoping in a cab to leave. Though the kitchenette is dated we expected that from previous reviews but could live with that, but could not live with the air conditioner being so dirty we would not run it and the stove fan so clogged with grease I felt nauseous. The bed was so soft was only able to sleep 1 person to a bed as kept rolling into each other. The public garbage was kept just inside the entrance and stunk and was full when we arrived it stayed like that for 3 days.

We had booked a kitchenette but there was an issue with our reservation. We managed to talk to the owner/manager and he fixed things up for us right away. Our kitchenette unit was clean and comfortable. Besides the comfortable bed it had a seating area with a couch and tv, a small dining area, kitchenette and bathroom. Everything was very clean. The continental breakfast is served in a large room with a full kitchen. Rather standard food, which is fine, and good coffee. The kitchen can be used by all guests if they want to cook or reheat a meal during the day. The location is very convenient. It is only a block to two grocery stores, a liquor store and a pharmacy. The Legion is also close and a hardware store. The Parks Canada office is right across the street if you need information. We would definitely stay at the Pelican Rapids Inn again.

We stay at the Pelican Inn every year when we come for the women's hockey tournament. The hotel is well-run and very clean. The rooms are a bit older with very firm beds, but it is safe, clean, and comfortable. I have a feeling they separated us from the other guests as no one complained about our evening socialization. I thought this was a very smart move and made our stay that much more enjoyable. Thanks Pelican Inn for always welcoming us back with warm and comfortable rooms.

I stayed here for three nights while travelling for work. The room was outdated, furniture is old and the bed is hard. But they make up for the accommodations with excellent service. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Housekeeping had the room spotless and replenished coffee and brought fresh towels everyday. They also provide a continental breakfast that was very convenient. There is also a restaurant that serves a full breakfast for an extra charge. The food at the restaurant is quite good. I also liked that the hall to the rooms is locked at night and you need a room key to get near the rooms. I appreciated this extra bit of safety. The hotel has everything going for it but the rooms need to be updated. The website has photos of renovated rooms so maybe they are in the process of renovating. Overall I enjoyed my stay and will return.

I used to stay at this hotel for work since 2005. I have stayed since 2010 and I returned to find the same furniture, bedspreads, etc. The room is dated, the in the room wouldn't work. I had to remove all the blankets from one bed and add to the other. I left a note about the heat and nothing. I then had to stay for an extra night and was told there was lots of space and was asked my room number. Then I was told I would have to check out and re-check in because someone else was in that room for my third night. I asked if they could just be put in the room where I was going to be assigned and the answer was no. I travel a lot to Fort Smith for work and I'm sorry I can't do this again.

Thank you for your comments, I sincerely apologize that your stay was not satisfactory. We have already made steps to improve and upgrade our rooms, we do realize they are dated and we are doing our best to fix that. This year we have currently completed 10 new suites on the first floor in the main building, these have all new furniture, fixtures and bedding. Please ask for one of these rooms for your next stay. I am unclear about the checking in and checking out misunderstanding, please give me the details in an email and send to:manager@pelicanrapidsinn.ca, so that I can follow up with the staff on shift and correct any training issues that need to be addressed. Thank you for your comments, I do hope you will come stay with us again so we can try to fix some of the concerns you pointed out. Kindest regards, Dana Fergusson Owner

The staff at this hotel are so friendly and accommodating. The hotel was very clean and our room was spacious. The breakfast included was sketchy as many early risers seemed to empty the fridge - so to speak. The restaurant which opens at 7:30am was a better bet, but not included in the price of the room.

The Pelican Rapids Inn is a clean basic motel in the centre of town. Good location and secure. Did not try the restaurant. Ample parking. Not much information at the Inn on events or things to see nearby.

I stayed four nights in the Annex of this hotel. My room was spacious clean comfortable. The best feature had to be the deep soaker tub. I used it every night The wirst was the Internet. The connection was sketchy at best and it was hard to do work related emails etc. The small town has a beautiful recreation centre with a pool. The health centre is pretty impressive as well. Restaurants in town are nice although expensive.

Was very pleasantly surprised at the size, quality and appearance of the rooms in the new building at the Pelican Rapids Inn. The room was VERY large, well stocked and very clean. A fully stocked kitchen, with large fridge, microwave, toaster, two elements, coffee machine, plates, cutlery and even some canned food and spices. The bathroom was very clean and modern, great water pressure and nice hot water! The space! I had two large pelican storage cases with laptops and they fit no problem. I was able to spread out and even do yoga. Nice large kitchen table and chairs. Internet was a bit spotty but was no extra charge. The restaurant is lacking. The servers didn't really know what was on the menu, had to come back a few times to ask what I wanted with the meal. I even saw one server make fun of an elder when he said his steak wasn't done to his liking. He was very put out and I felt quite bad for him. The food was very undesirable, frozen mixed veggies heated up, Minute Rice when the menu said wild rice. Would stay here in a heartbeat but will eat elsewhere.

My wife and I spent 2 nights on our first visit to Fort Smith. Our 2nd floor queen was in nearly new condition with comfortable bed, flat screen with all international channels, micro, fridge, coffee, and fully outfitted bathroom. The breakfast was a bit disorganized as it was not attended and limited to cereal, yogurt one morning and bagel with peanut butter. We enjoyed a lunch of fried rice, soup, and poutine at their nice restaurant. But the best was the hotel's location, just across the Visitor's Center and 1 block from the 2 supermarkets, drug store and liquor store.
