More than a hostel to sleep, Bohemia is a house where the cultures meets and mix. We live there and we exchange there: books, travel tips, internationals languages, paintings, meals or smiles. Ubicated at 7mn from the dock, 2mn from the sea, 5mn from the river and 5mn of the center of the village. This beautiful Caribbean traditional hut is surrounded with fruit trees and a green and melodious nature. The ideal place to fully enjoy the natural beauty of Capurgana.

Before booking La Bohemia, we had checked the reviews and although there were a few terrible stories we decided to believe the better reviews... DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS US!!! Firstly, there was NO ELECTRICITY at all and despite the staff being transparent about this problem, what they didn’t tell us is that EVERY other hostel in the town has a generator. So as well as having no wifi, no fan and no light, there were holes in the mosquito nets and the windows didn’t close - so the night was hot and mosquito-infested, not to mention the incredibly loud party music from the next door hostel. So much for the ‘tranquility of the jungle’ which would have been the only benefit of this hostel from hell. The worst part about the whole place is that it isn’t in the centre of town like most of the hostels in Capurganá, but instead just past a pool of standing water full of SEWAGE (see photo) from which the mosquitoes could easily reach the hostel. The path was unlit at night and smells disgusting. We had to leave after one night following such a horrific experience, however the staff refused to give us a refund for the other night we had originally booked because ‘we didn’t check out at 10am precisely’. HONESTLY, DO NOT STAY HERE. If you’re going to Capurganá, there are plenty of better options that aren’t online. It’s scary to arrive at a remote location without a hostel already booked but honestly it is much better in Capurganá to book accommodation after arriving so that you can see exactly what you’re signing up for. We changed to La Playita hostel and it was perfect.

The place itself is located in the jungle, which gives it some authentic peace. However it is extremely hot and humid and there's no AC, which makes it very difficult. Thanks to Joanna and the staff, the stay there was awesome! Very recommended.

Firstly, this hostel is far away from the port and the central part of Capurgana so be prepared to trek through the forest to a shack in the woods with no entrance. It's roasting hot with no air conditioning at all, lots of mosquitos and the windows do not shut in the bedrooms. The bathroom was awful and so so dirty and dark. There is no wifi or phone signal and the staff are unhelpful and never even there. We woke up in the morning to a giant crash, as this hostel is all wood there is no noise control and you can hear everything around you. I would never advise to stay here, we left early as we couldn't face another night in this shack from hell.

First of all, I have to say that the staff is really friendly and welcoming, they instantly make you at ease ; the house is also pretty cute at first look, with a nice communal area upstairs and a quaint hippy style that will appeal to many backpacker travelers. Unfortunately, the place is clearly on the decline and could use a bit of refurbishment (i.e a few pots of paint and new tiles for the bathroom). A few more years and it could slide on the shabby side. The major problem is the cleaning, which is insufficient. I have no complaint about the bedding, but the bathroom upstairs was downright dirty and didn't seem to be cleaned except for the shower mat. I do understand that Capurgana is very remote and that keeping anything dry in this climate is a constant struggle, but we've seen a lot of hotels/hostals cleaner in town (and at 47000 COP/pp/night for a bed in a very rustic dorm, this is not acceptable). Keeping the dogs OUT of the common areas would also be an improvement, they have fleas and they often enter the dormitories ! About the quality of sleep, well, the location is nice (slightly outside from the center) but you are still in the village so at night expect the sounds of frogs (great), the snoring of the other guests (no soundproofing but that's the case in any other hostel), muffled reggaeton bass and the loud generator of the neighbouring hotel when the power cuts. Bring earplugs, especially in high season !

This is a hostel, not a hotel. Good value dorm at around 20,000 COP when I stayed. Three showers, 2 toilets were enough. One of the dormitories was not occupied when I was there due to renovation so it probably get a little busy if full. Nice owner and helpful staff. Very close to town, about 2 minutes walk. There is no wifi but you can get this at the local bar during happy hour. This is a basic rustic hostel and ticks all the boxes. It has a well equipped kitchen with fridge and lockers for your valuables. It is made of wood and feels as if it's in the jungle. If you are in a private room and want to lock your door, bring a padlock. If you want to be waited on hand and foot, go somewhere else. This is one of the friendliest hostels in Capurgana with travellers trying to pass through and getting stuck for a week or two. Note: there is no atm in Capurgana. Bring enough cash!
