Nice little place to relax and rest in El Bolson. The host couple were very friendly and helpful. The offered to upgrade our private double room to a cabin. The backyard is large. Guest can use the grill and sometimes The owner Claudio does a communal grill party. The kitchen is a bit small and may be crowded when the place is busy. Our one-year old baby also enjoyed the three friendly family dogs and the cat.

I stayed at Pehuenia Hostel y Cabanas for two nights. Valeria and Claudio were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately I had trouble getting a good night’s sleep because of a pack of dogs in the neighborhood that not only barked but howled several times during the night. I wear earplugs and the barking and howling still woke me. I was also disappointed that my 4-bed mixed dorm room had no lockers.

Pehuenia’s WiFi was consistently fast and reliable, and its kitchen was also nice. But its breakfast rated a 2 on my 10-point scale for healthy, nutritious breakfasts with just bread, jam and weak coffee (adding some whole grain breads, cereals and fresh fruit -- apples bananas, mandarin oranges, etc. -- would make the breakfast more nutritious).

If you think the dogs won’t bother you -- and who knows you may get a night when they are not around -- Pehuenia will probably be okay for you.

Great hostel near to the Via Bariloche bus stop. We arrived on a busy public long weekend holiday. I was reccommended this hostel by Hostel Achalay (GREAT HOSTEL in Bariloche) and it lived up to our expectations. We arrived without a reservation, and we were horrified to find out that they only had one night free for us because the hostel was so lovely. They gave us a private cabin for dorm rate, and then in the morning we were delighted to hear that someone else cancelled. We moved to a dorm the next couple of nights, and even the dorm room had a double bed, a single bed and a bunk bed. They had lovely duvets, the rooms were warm, the breakfast was delicious and generous and the staff...soooo nice.

Must stay.

As most other people have said this hostel appeared great when we arrived, the owners were lovely as everyone has said and we felt comfortable.

Unfortunately I awoke the following morning to find over 25 bed bug bites all over my body.

I approached the staff quietly and advised of the issue, they were very quick to deny there were any problems of this nature in the hostel and I had brought them. It then came clear through the conversation that several years ago they had an issue. Then he said they had fumigated the entire property two months ago (even though there was no issue.....so why did they fumigate it??) He advised I had a new mattress so it could not be an issue...Even though the base and other furniture was the same as before so the bugs could have been there....

At this point the male Claudio became a little angry and I just said I wanted to leave, he then stormed out of the room.

I then went down stairs with my wife, where he continued to say I had brought the bugs to the hostel. This could be true there is a chance, however I never opened my bag or put anything on or near the bed, I was on a 26 hour bus before and didn't have one bite.

He then advised I should listen to him as he is 40 years old and I was a young man (29 years old) I advised he was being rude and that was ignorant. He got even more angry and verbally offensive, I said he was making an idot of himself in front of his other guests there was no need for this, at which point he totally lost it. He threw me out of the hostel and threatened to punch me in the head (where I had previously asked him to view the 4 bites on my head that was swollen). He followed me down the driveway shouting [--] at me, while his wife was begging him to calm down.

If you read any of the reviews for this hostel the owners are very quick to deny any bad feed back, they will deny this. It happened, and there was no need for it I would have left quietly I had no intention of a scene.

Conclusion if you go and want to complain think twice or you may be on the end of verbal abuse or a black eye i'm not sure which???

This hostel is small and crowded, but has a great athmosphere. Located on the "lower" side of El Bolson, it is decently priced in this otherwise expensive town. Downside to this is the place is very noisy, due to traffic and abundant dogs (the family has three as well, which bark constantly 6-9 a.m.). Hostel has small dorms, 2-bed rooms and cabins, with good shower and WC availability, and hot water. Kitchen is small but cosy, and can get rather dirty. Hosts are very kind and helpful (and speak English), but the small space means you live close to the family, for the good and bad. Cooking is often done together with the host family, who regularly arranges asados (mixed barbeque) together with the guests.

Strangely, during our stay, one night an elderly English couple were thrown out on the street, despite having paid for the night, after an argument about number of booked nights. This happened in front of us and a number of other guests. I have no idea what exactly precipitated this, but in the end, the male hostel owner was shouting, calling the other man crazy, threatening to "break his head" if they didn´t leave. This was most unpleasant and I will not return for this reason.

My wife and I had nothing short of a magical experience at Pehuenia. While the postcard scenery, mountain vistas, and spectacular food of Bolson were incredible, it was the hospitality of Claudio and Valeria (the hostel owners) and their family that made our stay memorable. From the moment of our arrival until we left, they welcomed us like family, called taxis for us, recommended the best hikes/excursions, made incredible asados & pizza parilla, and genuinely went out of their way to ensure we experienced the culture and adventure of Patagonia. The space was open, clean, inviting. The cabanas in the back provided an oasis: close enough to be apart of the community while distant enough to retreat into our own cozy space. The location is mere blocks from the artisan market, mercados, hiking, everything. This is the only place I would stay in the Bolson valley!

The hostel is very nice and in a fairly good location, close to El Bolson's to main street. The staff are very helpful, enthusiastic and friendly and it is a quaint hostel with some good views. The rooms are fairly basic but quite nice and spacious as well as clean. The bathrooms aren't the best but there is still hot running water and they are fairly clean. A good hostel and fairly cheap!

We stayed for one night and it was fab! The owner is soooooo friendly and helpful. The hostel is really cosy and there's a good kitchen. Beds in the dorm are comfy and the room is super dark at night so you get a a great sleep! Big supermarket nearby for your food shopping!

Simply the best hosts we had in a long time. This family run business does everything and beyond to make sure you have the best possible stay at their hostel. They have dorms, private rooms as well as cosy and spacious cabanas complete with kitchen and bathroom. Hostel guests have large and clean shared bathrooms and a big kitchen at their disposal.
It's 5 minutes walk from the main square and from where the main buses leave.
We absolutely loved it and we wished we could stay longer.
