Decided to have a pre- Christmas get away and had seen The Blue Boar Hotel Malden on the website, it looked a really lovely log hotel. Old is putting it mildly. On arrival rang the Broken bell on reception. Someone eventually came from their pub across the yard, handed us our key and promptly dissapeared again. We found our room,...

This is an old building and I have to say, the pictures on the website are very misleading. The rooms are filthy, old and tired. The building has character however none of it rubbed off into the rooms. The hot water is clunky, if you get any! My room was covered in a layer of dust so I didn't even...

I came to Maldon to attend a family 70th birthday party held in the town. When phoning around for hotels in the area The Blue Boar was the only one with rooms available. I booked the room at a price of £85.00 a night and I was totally shocked to see the state of the room on arrival. The bed...

We were given our room, which smelt extermelt musty, and had no hot water. we were moved into an alternative room, which had a great shower, and that was the high point. the matress must have been the cheapest the owners could find, the door was very difficult to lock and the walls were watermarked, and had very loose fitting...

We were obliged to move rooms twice, once due to a door that would not lock, the other due to the faulty bathroom light sensor system. The owner was very apologetic and offered free drinks in the bar, on her. However, although told that our friends were also experiencing the same lighting problem, no attempt was made to relocate them until...

Should be best place in Maldon shame on the owners it's filthy food terrible and no hospitality. Customer service is not on the radar nor is providing clean environment and edible food. Son sad that one of the oldest buildings in town has been left to go into such rack and ruin. Some call it quirky but it's just very...

Perfect ! Arrived on the last open night prior to some major refurbishing. Extremely comfortable room with magnificent furnishings. Beer being sold off at knock down price was just a bonus ! Great kipper for breakfast. Looking forward to visiting again having been assured that the refurb would not affect the historic parts of the hotel (a facilities upgrade). Many...

We have visited a few times before for food and have read the reviews but we have always enjoyed the food, the steak was cooked perfectly & the pork medallions were lovely. The place is quirky, the building amazing, full of character & we love the old music! It was our uncles 82nd birthday and had a lovely evening. The...

I often visit this pub to drink, it is an amazing building, with so much character. It is let down by the owner and his Wife who are constantly drunk (especially the wife) they're rude to customers and seem to completely neglect the whole building. I've been told by regulars that the owner and his wife are the only kitchen...
