Detailed Reviews
Recently stayed 4 nights at this very comfortable B&B about 10km from St Lo in Basse Normandy. The hosts - Alison and Ken were really welcoming and friendly and were extremely flexible when our small party needed to make some changes to our booking whilst we were there! The bedrooms were warm and inviting and very well decorated too. Also - the all important tea and coffee making facilities were in the room - which are often absent in France! Nothing was too much trouble - and I look forward to a return visit!

We had a wonderful stay with Alison at this B&B which is "lost in time" in Normandy. Room was comfortable for family of three (and more could have fit) and we loved the quiet country atmosphere. Alison was more than kind to us-- even gave us a lift into St. Lo so we could pick up our rental car. Tea was waiting after we got back from a long day seeing the sites.

We stayed a couple of nights with our lovely host Alison last week. As bikers we were pleased to have garaging available and also a well cooked three course evening meal after a long days touring. The location was very peaceful, the room spacious, good ensuite facilities, tea/coffee and a cosy comfortable bed. Lovely to share such a lovely old house - thank you Alison! We will be back hopefully next year.

We visited Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. My father was a D-Day vet. We made our plans long before our President made his plans to crash the party. Fortunately, we booked at La Chapelle which is far enough out of the way that we avoided most of the security nightmare and street closings associated with having not 1 or 2, but 3 heads of state in roughly the same place at the same time; Trump, May, and Macron. La Chappelle is roughly half-way between Carentan and St. Lo. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, La Chapelle offers pastoral perfection although we did not hang around much to enjoy it. Our hosts (and owners), Alison & Ken, are warm and wonderful people! The building is old - like 17th Century old, but it is lovingly maintained and in great working order. We stayed for 3 nights. Our room was large and clean; the mattress and pillows super comfortable. Breakfasts were simple, but fresh and delicious. When we return to Normandy, we will definitely stay here again! Parking is motorcycle friendly as well. The only downside is that, as a B&B, the nearest restaurants for dinner are a ways down the road although there is a craft brewery, La Sauvage, starting a short walk away!

This place is quite comfortable, but despite the outward appearance, it lacks French charm. It is run by an English couple who are friendly enough. The rooms are OK, but dowdy, and it isn't cheap. We won't stay there again.

Thank you for your review docpeterf I recall you stayed at La Chapelle the beginning of September, you booked maybe a day before you arrived and took our last room available which was the triple bedroom en-suite, The price you paid was 90.00 Euros including breakfast the room is priced for 3 People. A Double En-suite is 75.00 Euros including breakfast. I dont know why you refer the room as "dowdy" it has triple aspect windows and was newly decorated for the 2017 season, so I find your comments unfair and un-necessary I understand not all our decor will be to everybody's taste, we dont advertise as typical french style, at the end of the day this is our home and run a Chambre D'dote not a hotel.

This building is very old and was originally used as boarding for monks who lived, worked and worshipped here; their centuries of prayer have permeated the building's bones and made it feel like a holy place; a natural place to pray and reflect. It has been carefully updated with modern plumbing and electrical but you can still see the thousand year old support beams - beautiful! Alison and Ken were excellent hosts and made things very easy. Ken is easy to chat to and has extensive knowledge of WWII history and the events of D day. Apparently La Chapelle was used by the Germans as a command post during the latter part of the war. This is a fantastic place to stay and explore all the D-Day beaches.

This is not our first time here and we came back because it is more like visiting family than a B&B. Alison & Ken are lovely hosts, very attentive but without being over bearing, The rooms are beautifully decorated and fitted out with antiques and lovely furniture. The whole house is full of character. The breakfasts are generous with freshly baked croissants and local produce. The location is very rural but within a short drive of St Lo and ideally placed for visiting the WW2 Monuments and the Normandy Beaches. We will absolutely use again and again. We are motorcyclists and they have a secure parking for bikes.
